20.01.2022 What a start to the year! Thank you everyone for your support this term. Piano and dance have both changed in ways that I would have not predicted several months ago! My piano students have moved across to Zoom lessons, something that is surprisingly accessible and successful with the Simply Music method. Fortunately I already had some interstate students learning in this way, so I was partially prepared for the transition.... Whilst dance lessons are on hold, online lessons may evolve next term to keep the magic alive for our stay at home couples! Time for a two week break to delve into my musical projects and fill up my creative cup! 19.01.2022 Even as a small child I was entranced by the sound of a piano playing. Anytime a piano was playing I was there. During recess at school I remember lying underneath a grand piano whilst a friend played, opting for music to rain down on me rather than sunshine. As a young adult I would stop outside piano stores and gaze fondly inside, wishing that I had started piano as a child. This pattern of wishing I had begun lessons continued for quite a few years, until I realised that i...f only I had started lessons last time I had that thought, I would actually be playing now! That day I booked my first piano lesson and I have not looked back. I started out with traditional lessons, took to music theory like a duck to water and eventually crossed paths with the Simply Music method, first as a student, and now as a teacher. 19.01.2022 "It's a lot like dancing". - Terry Dobson (noted Aikido pioneer, teacher and writer) I am a dancer. I am a choreographer. But in the beginning I was an Aikidoka (practitioner in Aikido). Whilst many of my contemporaries were bending at the ballet bar, I was learning to fall without getting hurt, training my field of awareness from a narrow to a wide gaze, and back again, and to yield in a powerful way. This training continues to live inside me and adds a certain weight an...d flow to my perspective. I am forever grateful to my many Aikido teachers both alive and past, and the skills and dimensions it has taught me. In Aikido we seek tranquility amidst the tumult, and to connect our "centre" with that of our partner/opponent. In dance it is the moments of stillness that sometimes occur that are most sweet, and in terms of connection: we might have four feet but when we are really in the flow, it feels like one body. After 20 years of dancing I might be inclined to agree with Terry.

13.01.2022 My husband and I decided 2 days before our wedding that we wanted to have some idea on what to do for our first dance. (Mainly myself, as my husband doesn’t dance...ever! So our wedding day was going to be the one chance I got to dance with him.) I contacted Corrie and he was able to squeeze us in for a 1 hour lesson that night. At the start of the night, my husband and I had no idea how to dance together so Corrie broke it down and taught us some steps, one at a time. 12.01.2022 What fuels you? For over twenty years dance and music has been that fuel for my mind and body, connecting me to active physical wellness and that socially driven side of human experience. An experience that the introverted researcher side of me would so contentedly hide from. Though once I realised the human potential in collaborating through this creative expression, my eyes were opened to a whole new exploration of self and shared harmony. My initial introduction to this ...harmony came through my training in Aikido. Aikido, for those who aren’t familiar, is about blending, harmonising, finding connection with your partner. When a friend introduced me to dance, I was surprised to find that I took to it like a duck to water. Dance, it just so happens, is about blending, harmonising, finding connection with your partner - only... with music. I was hooked, obsessed and so grateful.

07.01.2022 In the world of the Enneagram and for those who already know the system, I am a number 5:THE INVESTIGATOR. As a young child my church and sanctuary was the quiet spaces of a Library. I would often sit and gaze longingly at the towering shelves of books (when I wasn't reading) wondering who would I become if I could just read them all. That longing persists today. My tendency is still to read another book or do more research before telling you what I know. We (5's) are informa...tion hungry and desirous of pushing conceptual boundaries until we end up somewhere new. I am the Eternal Student. Learning is like heroine for the 5's but the real joy (and challenge) has been translating abstraction into concretion, and turning ideas into real life experiences. I was once kicked out of an ashram library by a grumpy yet smiling monk, who said "You know enough already - now DO!"
