23.01.2022 I’ve discussed laser in the past for pigmentation. Today, I’m having a treatment for collagen stimulation. Collagen in our skin depletes as soon as we hit our 30s. Depletion is increased by poor diet, smoking and sun exposure. Theses days you’ll see multiple modalities to boost collagen in the skin- whether it’s mechanically through needling or threads, with heat such as this laser treatment or internally with collagen supplements (more on that to come in coming weeks). So- today I’m putting my body on the line and testing out a collagen induction treatment on myself, performed by our practice nurse here at Pinnacle Dermatology, Orange. 15.01.2022 PIGMENTATION I love this treatment on my patients. I see a lot of sun damage here in the central west and I myself am no exception. Years of long days outside playing sport combined with hormonal melasma during pregnancy have caught up with my skin and the pigment has been getting progressively more noticeable. My treatment plan for myself:... 1. Commenced Refine Over Time serum from Dermaenergy (which I stock) which has an active retinol and has started to draw the pigment to the surface. 2. 13.01.2022 WINTER SKIN Winter is coming! Here in Orange we've already had days that have maxed out at single digit degrees. It's getting chilly, and combined with the high altitude and indoor heating, my skin can dry out pretty quick. Why does skin do this? A lack of moisture in the stratum corneum layer of the skin can make skin feel tight and develop minor crack in the surface leading to a rough, flaky and dull appearance.... The answer? Moisture! Choose moisturisers with lipid chains that penetrate the skin. Also hyaluronic acid (HA) serums which can bind up to 1000 times its molecular weight in water. 09.01.2022 GRATITUDE After having to hibernate my business after only two months of full time focus, I was devastated. However, this global pandemic cloud has brought some amazing silver linings to my life for which I am forever grateful. Some of these include: - Seeing my son flourish as a result of homeschooling. I mean I was nearly driven to drink somedays but watching him learn to read, write, add and subtract gave me to much pride and joy. - Bushwalks, board games, lego, puzzles, b...aking...all things I love to do but more often than not previously had to say not right now to - I could just say yes and enjoy the moment. - Teaching my son to ride his bike without training wheels - Building a bed for my daughter who at 3.5 years old was still bunking in with her brother because we never got around to buying her a bed. She now has her own little haven to play and read and dream. - Im grateful that as a nurse I could put food on the table finding casual work in hospitals, homes and clinics. Even though Ive been patiently waiting for the day when I could reopen, when that day came my emotions were certainly mixed. I cant wait to see all my beautiful patients once more, but I will cherish this time and make sure that time with my family remains my highest priority in life. #love #family #gratitude #cosmediccollective
