09.01.2022 Please look carefully at the faces in these photographs from Nauru, where Peter Dutton says there are no children in detention. These are the human beings who ...are abused and held hostage in the name of the Australian people. Dutton plays with words. No doubt he follows a script written for him by Michael Pezzullo, the un-elected most powerful man in Australia, who holds the lives of refugees - including the 169 children who remain on Nauru - in his hands. When Dutton speaks without a script, he sounds moronic. With Pezzullo's script, he merely sounds inhuman. Semantics permit Dutton to say that there are no children in detention, because on Nauru the gates to the concentration camp are open. But no refugee wants to be there, or on the island, and no one can leave - except to return to the place they fled, in fear for their lives. There are four pregnant women on Nauru, and 169 children whose ages range from newborns to teenagers. Baby Kawther was born into detention on 28 June 2017, and has spent her first Christmas on Nauru. Teenage girls Shamim and Misbah, both refugees from Myanmar, where there is a genocide against their Rohingya people, have spent five Christmases on Nauru, as has Batol, from Iran, who is ten years old, and wants to be a vet. These women and children, and their husbands and fathers, are refugees, who had a legal right to come to Australia by boat, to seek asylum. Australia's isolation is not just geographical now; we are morally isolated from the civilised world. What we do here to refugees does not occur in any other First World country. What we do to children and babies only has precedent in our morally repugnant, discredited treatment of Aboriginal people, and in the crimes against humanity of the Nazis. Australia even gives newborn babies like Kawther an ID number, and calls children by numbers, instead of names.

Last night we had the honour and pleasure of sharing a magical evening with some outstanding musicians - Steve Skinner, Eugene Harpsnake, Down Under, Kane Mentz, Josh Williams, Tom, Ted -plus some GREAT friends and music lovers. Thank you ALL for your contributions which helped to create a truly awesome gathering. It was a communal effort and showed what magic can happen when a group of people with positive intentions and spirit come together. In the words of Steve Skinner, a gathering for Love, Peace and music! What an awesome way to welcome the new year! Love and Peace to all in 2013
