23.01.2022 Wage theft laws are coming! Legislation was recently introduced into the Queensland Parliament aimed at stamping out the scourge of wage theft and making it ea...sier for workers to recover wages. The union movement has been calling for tougher laws for years and we welcome the new legislation. We will keep members updated after reviewing the draft legislation.
23.01.2022 Employers can give a pay rise earlier than February. If you are a supermarket worker, send your employer a clear a message: we deserve a pay rise now. Support the campaign at https://national.sda.com.au/essential-payrise/

18.01.2022 #kmart management have now announced they will be making wearing facial masks mandatory for all team members, contractors, visitors, security guards and cleaner...s in selected QLD stores which are considered high risk. This is to help ensure the health and safety of staff and customers. The SDA encourages workers to follow this direction. The company has committed to making masks available to all team members in all Kmart stores. While Kmart is strongly encouraging customers to wear masks in these locations, if they choose not to we cannot require them to. If workers do have medical or other reasons for why they cannot wear a mask, please speak to your manager and explain your concerns. If your concerns remain unresolved or you would like support or advice please contact the SDA on 07 3833 9500.

17.01.2022 Essential workers have worked tirelessly in supermarkets on the frontline putting the needs of their community ahead of their own so Australians could put food ...on the table. After everything theyve done, the decision to delay their pay rise is just unfair. Essential workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Employers can give a pay rise earlier than February. The SDA has been in discussions with employers calling on them to give a pay rise now. We need as many supermarket workers as possible to send their employer a clear a message: we deserve a pay rise now. Support the campaign now at https://national.sda.com.au/essential-payrise/

01.01.2022 Wendy is a retail worker and SDA - the Union for Workers in Retail, Fast Food & Warehousing member. She is just one of the many workers who have been impacted b...y COVID-19. Every year Australian unions are the only people who argue for a pay rise at the annual minimum wage decision for the 21% of workers on Awards like Wendy. The employer groups however argued for wage cuts and freezes. While the 1.75% wage increase is modest and is not enough, its disappointing that the minimum wage increase will be phased in. That means workers like Wendy will have to wait until February for their increase. However, the increase shows that the Fair Work Commission rejected the employer groups wage cut arguments. If we want to stimulate the economy, we need to give low-paid workers a pay rise. That is how we will get the retail industry back on its feet. Workers like Wendy deserve to have their wages protected. Thats why its so important to be a union member.
