16.01.2022 Block printing is the oldest form of repeat printing, and was first developed in India. It makes use of small, carved blocks of wood on which the pattern to be printed stands out in relief. An ink roller is run over the raised surface and then the block is impressed onto fabric, printing the image. The wood blocks themselves are usually made from pieces of hardwood and have small pins at the corners so that each block can be readily aligned with the next ones in order to print a repeating pattern.
