25.01.2022 BIG THANKS to Michael Freeman who has worked with us for 25 years ! Mick and Glen have worked tirelessly to build Tarrawatta into the efficient and progressive farm it is today. We had a Social Distance drink 160 km apart last night , looking forward to a proper celebration in the future.

25.01.2022 We need to breed a wheat variety that ripens outside of storm season, weather can make harvest very trying for everyone involved from the header to the trucks and even the receivable depots.

23.01.2022 Great work Cotton Australia, we have such a wonderful industry we can all be proud of.

23.01.2022 Our early crops have reached cutout, meaning they are no longer growing the plant but focusing all of its energy on filling the fruit it has set

22.01.2022 With all the wet weather recently aeroplanes have been the only machines left working, and they have been under immense pressure to get through a sudden and massive increase in their workload. A big thanks to Mungindi aerial and Air Ag for all the hard work!

22.01.2022 See if you can pick the parts filmed on Evolution Farming country! Great quick overview of the exciting Australian Cotton industry. http://austcottonshippers.com.au/

21.01.2022 One of our headwater storages Pindari dam was spilling 25000 megalitres/day so we had to take the opportunity to go have a look

19.01.2022 Happy Autumn! We have all had enough of this summer. Why can't we have more weather like today? Min of 17. Max of 31 just perfect for plants and people.

19.01.2022 Some quick and simple exercises for days spent driving long hours in tractors or vehicles, good for your back and overall well-being. Well worth trying!

19.01.2022 Early season progress

18.01.2022 Here is one of our pump sites on the Dumaresq, it has only run for a few days in the last 5 years because of the lack of flows in the Northern tributaries of the Darling. The photos also show the latest metering equipment with tamper evident seals and telemetry. These meters run data loggers and can be downloaded at any time by the Department and any evidence of tampering is clear to see by anyone who looks and can be used in court to prosecute those doing the wrong thing! Th...ey are also fitted with Telemetry and can be accessed any time so that we can ensure we are complying. Well over 99% of irrigators do the right thing all the time, please don't condemn us all because of the actions of a few individuals. After all we are also just another Aussie family trying to make a living the best way we know how(Through honest hard work) The Evolution Farming Team. See more

18.01.2022 Big thanks to Sophie and Heath Elsley who have been organising regular breakfasts in Yelarbon to keep everyone’s spirits up during the drought! This mornings guest speakers Sam and Jenny Bailey (in pic) reminded us to jump into somebody else’s paddock when we are feeling like we are doing it the toughest. Great advice Anthony Doljanin

18.01.2022 Looks like the worst of the cold is over so time to get planting. Mick and Peter have been busy spraying and getting the planter started this afternoon at Koarlo.

17.01.2022 This is a thorough look at the conditions we are experiencing in the Gwydir, the other northern valleys are all the same. It’s not a very exciting presentation but well worth looking at. It explains the current drought is record breaking and the last 20 years have been an incredibly dry period. It also explains that the majority of storage releases this year have been for environmental water for system health and the Gwydir wetlands! I don’t think most people realise how tough the current period is on farmers, their families and local businesses!

17.01.2022 A few of our finest supporting their local community organisations!

17.01.2022 Strathguyle looking a picture!

16.01.2022 10 days to go! Anyone for great day out?

16.01.2022 Winter harvest is underway for 2016! Great crops and all the normal issues!

16.01.2022 We have several permanent and casual opportunities available next year for the harvest season, approximately April-July

15.01.2022 So Exciting to have a crop and be harvesting again this year. Looking good Mick!

14.01.2022 Harvest 2019! One to forget, but still the best time of the year!

14.01.2022 Countryside around Tarrawatta looks spectacular at the moment with dams full and greenery everywhere!

13.01.2022 What an amazing achievement!

13.01.2022 Australian farmers are some of the most efficient in the world, to ensure we stay that way we employ all kinds of technology to assist. We continually monitor our soil moisture at 10cm intervals and all levels combined. Our aim is to maximise the potential of the plant while still encouraging root growth to a depth of over 80cm. Maximising the potential of the plant maximises our water use efficiency, as water is our limiting and most important resource, this is the most important KPI for us to measure and improve. You can also see on this graph, we have had no useful rainfall since planting. We also monitor the temperature of the crop canopy, this can give us insight into the length of time each day a crop is suffering from water stress so that we can adjust our timing of irrigation's for maximum efficiency.

13.01.2022 This is part of what I love about our industry, always at the front of innovation!

12.01.2022 Happy Easter to all of our Evolution Farming Team! That includes all of our staff and also our Customers and Suppliers. We are blessed to have so many great relationships to support our business! Not many Easters we get to spend without smelling like picker grease. Heres to a better harvest next year!

11.01.2022 The smell of harvest is in the air! I'm getting excited. Only 5 weeks to go!

11.01.2022 Get a team of 3 together ,have fun and support our U 12 boys annual trip to New Zealand! The 17th March is coming up soon , so print out a form or ring Susie. Details below

08.01.2022 Last night the small border town of Mungindi lost their only Supermarket, butcher and PJ’s wares. These families have lost their livelihoods and the community has lost its services. Any donations to help ease the load for these families would be appreciated!

06.01.2022 Transformation taking place, harvest is in full swing now.

06.01.2022 7 days in the life of a cotton seed!

06.01.2022 Attractive position available for a motivated and organised mechanic.

06.01.2022 Great view from the plane this morning...Koarlo shrouded in winter fog.

06.01.2022 Huge populations of Kangaroos, Emus and Pigs have become such an issue we are having to use exclusion fences to try and keep their numbers under control. We estimate we loose about $350'000 every year just on this farm to damage from animals.

05.01.2022 With the Darling river health in question and so many lies being spread I thought I would put out there our water allocations share for the last few years. Please take the time to study it. Over 5 years we have averaged 16% of our allocation, the last 12 months there has been 0%(That's none, no water at all) The last 2 years we are averaging 4%, hardly enough to change the Darling from an oasis to a sewer as is being suggested! The water we are currently pumping has been accumulated in Glenlyon dam so that we had it available for dry times like now. As always if you would like to be informed, we welcome everyone to come and join our family and see for yourself so that you can make an informed and useful contribution to the debate! Regards from The Evolution Farming Team!

05.01.2022 A great job opportunity has just opened for an experienced operator to join our Talwood team

05.01.2022 Our chickpeas are looking promising despite trying conditions. Harvest should begin about the middle of November

05.01.2022 Finished our best ever winter harvest at Tarrawatta yesterday! A lot of relieved people to have that job done for the year

04.01.2022 Breakfast entertainment watching our natural predators retrieving heliothis larvae from the chickpeas and loading them into their nest for their young to feed on.

03.01.2022 How exciting. It’s been two years since we have had any Cotton emerging. In true 2020 style it has already weathered a hail storm before emerging as you can see by the crust it’s having to make its way through.

03.01.2022 Been a long time since I've logged on and seen 30 mm of beautiful soaking rain, Good for crops and better for the soul. Hopefully more to come.

03.01.2022 Anyone wondering why the rivers are running dry only needs to look at the rainfall in our catchment area. This image shows this summer and last combined to be the second driest period in 120 years, this correlates directly to almost zero river flows for the same period! The only period dryer was in 1901-02. This drought is severe and we can only hope that the northern monsoon can make its way south to us before long for the sake of everyone and everything in Barwon Darling.

03.01.2022 The cover crop trials are looking the part. Our cover crops are a critical part of preparation for summer and so GRDC and CRDC are running this trial for us looking for the best cover crop options. All in the pursuit of continually improving water use efficiency!

02.01.2022 How lucky are we to have a job critical to life! and to have had rain again!

02.01.2022 The CSIRO have been central to much of the improvements in efficiency that keep our industry at the forefront of the world! R&D spending is the best investment any government can make for the continued success of our wonderful country! https://blog.csiro.au/best-of-both-whorls-cotton-with-the-/

01.01.2022 Applications close December 5th for the 2021 Future Cotton Leaders Program! An excellent program well worth participating in!
