Yep, spring is here and it is tempting to get those seedlings out into the garden but here in North East Victoria we still have some more frosty mornings ahead, so you just stay in the hothouse a little longer. If you are going to experience another frost or two in your region please avoid the temptation of purchasing seedlings and planting them out.

06.01.2022 Not long to harvest now..a general rule of thumb is the garlic bulbs will be ready to harvest three weeks after the scapes start reaching for the sky. If you grow hard neck varieties they will produce a scape which is a stem that the plant sends up to set seed. They should be removed just prior to them starting to curl, to ensure that the plant directs all of its nutrients into producing the largest bulb possible. This is also when the scapes are the most tender and delicious to eat. They are fabulous in stir fries, garlic soup, salads, pesto and hummus - now for sale in our farm shop for a limited time.

06.01.2022 And so it begins again, here we are planting next year's gold medal garlic. We were at the Melbourne Flower Show yesterday, and were fortunate to get some finer points on judging garlic from Penny Woodward (senior garlic judge)
