25.01.2022 DAY 2: Booubyjan - Monto (215.43km, 8.33hr moving time, 1,613m elevation) This was another big, tough day that started off super cold (6 deg C) - we were surrounded by thick fog that took several hours to lift. This made it very interesting with traffic, and given the very cold temperatures it was difficult to warm up (it certainly ain’t no tropical North Queensland weather) - going directly into hills shortly after leaving camp was quite the challenge for some. The scene...ry along the way has been stunning, our lunch spot was at a lovely spot called Mundubbera situated on the Burnett River. The evening was spent at the Monto Caravan Park, Leslie and Sue are exceptional hosts and we would highly recommend anyone passing through looking for somewhere to stay to stop the night. This was also a very emotional day as it was 1 year since we lost Charlie Woodward, friend and founder of COUCH.

21.01.2022 Day 5: Claremont - Belyando Crossing Today we started out from Claremont and finished the day with 130km under our belts. Nursed the pack through with a few slight niggles and injuries and due to safety, some adjustments were made to our schedule and everyone was a wee bit (understatement ) happy that our long day turned into our rest day. If you told us 4 weeks ago in our training that 130km would be a rest day we would have laughed hysterically . It was a great day,... covering very Aussie outback terrain, long flats, a few hills, some head winds, gusting side winds and some awesome tail winds that helped push us along the highway so we managed an average speed of 31km/h. We rolled into Belyando Crossing with plenty of time to enjoy a cold beer, another wonderful ice bath, a bit of yoga to stretch things out and sunset by the campfire - just magical.

19.01.2022 Day 7: Charters Towers - Greenvale (208km, 7.46hrs) Into our 7th day and the days are most definitely not getting any easier, in fact it’s pretty darned tough. Everyone’s nether regions (no this is not another country) are hurting from the moment we jump on the bikes to when we jump off at the end of the day. A few are nursing injuries which include bad knees, achilles injuries, back and neck problems and some have flu-like symptoms, but all remain positive and doing the ve...ry best they can. This mornings sunrise was absolutely stunning and the bird life along the way just spectacular, from brolgas to pelicans and eagles, to name but a few. But the highlight came just before we arrived at our destination when we looked to the right and saw a herd of wild brumbies by a billabong and as they spotted us they ran along side us for a short period of time. The roads today were absolutely shocking, at various points it just enough for one car, not 10 cyclists and a BFT (big ******* truck) - we had to get off the road onto the gravel to accommodate one road train and at one point was nearly blown off a bridge as a road train past us. During our lunch stop we had a nearby farmer come and join us for lunch and her brother has recently been diagnosed with cancer and offered us a further $500 donation. The kindness we are experiencing along the way has been incredible. Seven days down, two more sleeps - looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday at Forgarty Park between 1.30 and 2pm when we roll home!! Also, don’t forget you MUST book your tickets to the Welcome Home Function at the Cotton Club on Saturday night ASAP!! https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/welcome-home-couch-cancer-r Thank you

12.01.2022 COUCH CANCER RIDE - DAY 1

12.01.2022 Day 8: Greenvale - Mt Garnet (209.9km, elevation 2,251, 8.18hrs Our 2nd last day!!!! The morning was gorgeous with a beautiful sunrise but probably the hardest morning yet for our nether regions. It was hard to imagine how we would get through over 200kms! I think all agreed it was the hardest day, not the longest and maybe not even with the highest hills, but the longest memorable climb over 25kms to a 1000m elevation and the hardest head winds to date. The winds did not g...ive up all day and we were beyond shattered by the end. The road trains gave us a few hairy experiences today but our support crew were incredible. We really could not of managed this ride without them and are extremely grateful for their hardwork and professionalism. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the rest of our support crew which are all friends and family. They have been amazing, giving up their time and energy to support our cause. People donated more money today from the roadside; they were in shock we were going up the hills they had trouble pulling their caravans up. We have enjoyed a very welcomed soak in the hot springs and a lovely dinner at Innot Springs pub and shared some wonderful stories/memories. Everyone is looking forward to the ride home and seeing all of our friends at the finish line - we are expected to arrive about 1.30 into Fogarty Park and looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of friends and family

12.01.2022 DAY 1 We started our journey on a cool rainy morning in Buderim, but we had a great send off from the lovely people at Bloomhill Cancer Care Centre who cooked us an awesome breakfast to send us off with full stomachs on our long journey north. https://www.facebook.com/couchcancerride/#

08.01.2022 Well the plan was to share Day 4 with you, but with dodgy WIFI it's taking such a long time to download the pics so we opted for sleep instead! So, in the meantime we wanted to say a BIG thank you to all our wonderful Sponsors and Supporters, without their help this ride just would not be possible. THANK YOU Banora International Group, TBS Distribution, KUR Cow, SKÅL International Cairns 530, FNQ Hot Property Cairns, Bluewater Harbour, International Coaches & Tours, Dundees Restaurant On The Waterfront, Star 102.7 Cairns, Discovery Cycles, The Cotton Club, Rattle n Hum Cairns, Total Food Network, , Alsia Web and Lisa Monks - ChipMonk Media

06.01.2022 As the sun sets on Day 4 we are 216.3km closer to Cairns than we were when we left camp this morning. We will post updates from Day 3 and 4 after we’ve showered, had a beer and eaten dinner

05.01.2022 This is hilarious! Should have probably seen it before our epic ride and made it mandatory reading for all riders http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

04.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone! We are a day behind with our daily reports, but just wanted to share this gorgeous sunrise at Bauhinia - word in the camp was it was a chilly 3 deg at 5am this morning! Tropical North Queensland we are comin’ atchya

04.01.2022 Day 4: Bauhinia - Emerald (216.3km, 8.7hrs, 1,645m elevation) The morning started with a chilly 3 degrees.it was impossible to warm up but the view was spectacular, with no fog. We saw kangaroos, lorikeets and various other wildlife and all agreed it was pretty awesome to be alive.even though we were freezing!!! After about 25kms, we hit a range which totally warmed us up and gave the professional riders a chance to show their skills on the downhill slopes. The traffic w...as a bit of a test today but our support drivers did an amazing job. We could not do this without them and a big thanks goes out to Greg Rashleigh, John Hasler, Mike McLean and Fergus McLean. It takes a lot of patience and skill to drive at 30-40kms per hour all day and use the mobile phones and 2ways while watching us on our bicycles and all of the traffic. Today was very humbling as 3 drivers pulled over to pay cash towards our cause.sometimes a little dangerous, in the middle of the freeway, but humbling all the same. We rode really well as a team today and made terrific time. We are all getting to understand each others capabilities and it’s great to see people’s skills and confidence building on the road. While there were head winds etc, we made great time and pulled into camp in time to enjoy (NOT!) another ice bath and a few beers before some more fabulous dinner by our awesome chef, Habsy.

02.01.2022 Yes! That's right, we made it all the way from Buderim to Cairns!! We arrived on Saturday and it's taken a couple of days to recover (and the reason it's been so quiet on here), but we have more updates and posts for you from our last day/night and the very warm welcome we received! We also want to update you on the progress of our fundraising, which has been amazing! Thank you to ALL who have supported us on this epic journey - your love, friendship and ongoing support both personally to all riders and support crew, and financially to our cause, has been so very humbling - this is one experience we will never forget xx Stay tuned for more updates......

01.01.2022 Day 3: Monto - Bauhinia (233.9km, 8.56 moving time, 1,941m elevation) The day started with a huge climb.several times over, with high gradients which challenged everyone and left one member with a shoe blow out and another with 2 flats! Thankfully, all survived but we also had a flat on our kitchen truck, which could have been devastating - can you imagine 10 hungry riders rolling into camp and not being fed? The day continued and we enjoyed lunch at the Queensland Heri...tage Park. Half an hour is such a short period of time to fill your bottles, eat lunch, stretch, go to the toilet, lube up the special spots and be ready to get back on the bike!! Had massive head winds for the afternoon which tested the best of us and finally rolled in on sunset just before we needed a police escort. Sunset was magical! Habsi and his Angels had the camp set up already for us and we enjoyed the luxury of an ice bath - worst experience ever!! And some awesome food and wine. We could not do this without our amazing support crew!!! See more

01.01.2022 We'd love to see you on the finish line to help us welcome back the riders and support crew after a grueling 9 days of cycling from Buderim to Cairns!
