24.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone in the beautiful Shoalhaven and once again we are all so grateful to the firefighters who have given up their Christmas to help others.

23.01.2022 Please stay home and stay safe and check on your neighbours to make sure they are safe.

22.01.2022 Please get tested if you have even the slightest symptoms for your own health and that of others and if you have symptoms or are awaiting test results stay home

22.01.2022 Politicians have asked tourists and holidaymakers to stay away from the Shoalhaven

20.01.2022 HANCOCK REMAINS COY ON WHETHER SHE WILL SUPPORT BAN ON DEVELOPERS RUNNING FOR COUNCIL The Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock has refused to say wheth...er she will support a NSW Labor bill banning developers and real estate agents from holding the position of councillor. Ms Hancock was repeatedly asked her view on the proposal in Budget Estimates at NSW Parliament this morning but she dodged the questions. The government will formulate a response to the legislation in due course, Ms Hancock said on several occasions. I don’t want to get into hypothetical discussions. If we started to ban certain groups of people from running for local government, where do we stop? Shadow Minister for Local Government Greg Warren said the answer was simple: As the bill states, we stop at developers and real estate agents. As it stands, council candidates are required to declare whether they are developers or associates of developers prior to elections. However the NSW Electoral Commission nor the Office of Local Government review or check whether those declarations are accurate. Meaning the declarations carry very little weight. The only way false declarations are exposed is when a complaint is made, Mr Warren said. The onus should be on the government to ensure councillors do not make false declarations - it’s not up the community to police that space. This issue is about ensuring the highest level of transparency at a local government level. The Minister’s answer in Budget Estimates were anything but transparent. She is the Minister and needs to stop hiding behind her Liberal and National mates, be honest about her views regarding this bill, and for once show some conviction.

20.01.2022 ALERT - EVACUATION ORDER An evacuation order is now in place for parts of Sussex Inlet. Details: bit.ly/2PziVlB... #ShoalhavenCity

20.01.2022 The Member for South Coast and Minister for Local Government doesn’t agree with Labor’s proposed ban on property developers becoming councillors. Property developers on councils would be a clear conflict of interest and it begs the question Why would the member not agree?

19.01.2022 The last remaining piece of unburnt bush land at Manyana is set to be cleared for a housing development. A reprieve has been negotiated with the developer but it is only a reprieve. It is time for the NSW government to step in and act. The member for South Coast needs to step up and support the residents of Manyana and our endangered wildlife whose home is under threat.

19.01.2022 As the weather worsens again stay safe and look after each other. Once again, thanks to those amazing men and women who are giving so much to fight these dreadful fires. We can only imagine how the families of those who have lost their lives are feeling and our hearts go out to them. Every day is one day closer to rain and it can't come quick enough.

19.01.2022 My thoughts are with the Ulladulla community today as they face yet another tragedy. I know they will rally together to help each other at this difficult time.My thoughts are with the Ulladulla community today as they face yet another tragedy. 18.01.2022 Just in case you missed the evacuation orders for Sussex and Nowra areas.

16.01.2022 Whilst the restrictions will be slightly eased from tomorrow, please stay vigilant and look after yourselves. Stay home unless you need to go out, keep your distance from others when you are out and wash your hands. If we start taking risks now we could undo all the good work we have already done.

15.01.2022 I just want to give a big shout out to my colleagues at Shoalhaven Hospital. During tbe current crisis they are under a lot of pressure but are pulling together to keep the hospital staffed. Nurses and midwives who can get there are working long hours to cover for their colleagues who are unable to and doctors are staying at the hospital and sleeping wherever they can find a bed in case they are needed and communications are lost. The locum obstetrician who had been on call 24/7 for several days cancelled her flight home in case her replacement couldn't get there. This is another example of our community pulling together during times of crisis.

14.01.2022 My letter in today's South Coast Register

13.01.2022 Yesterday I met with Jenny Aitchison amp, Member for Maitland and shadow minister for primary industries and tourism. She wanted me to advise any business owners in the area who have been affected either directly or indirectly by the bushfires to contact her office at [email protected] If anyone has any questions about council’s bushfire response please don’t hesitate to contact me

11.01.2022 At Monday night’s extraordinary meeting of council, the Mayor moved a mayoral minute as below. She stated that one thing which she heard from people, especially in the southern area of the Shoalhaven, was that the loss of power and communications was one thing which people found very difficult. Councillor White moved an alternative motion that the mayoral minute be referred to the Bushfire Recovery Committee for consideration. Councillor White’s motion was successful, with councillors Gash, Wells, White, Guile, Pakes, Watson and Kitchener voting in favour of it. This will in effect delay this very important action by months at the very least. I would be interested to hear people’s thoughts on this.

10.01.2022 3 American firefighters lost their lives today fighting our fires and I would like to extend my condolences to their families and friends.

10.01.2022 An emergency bill passed in NSW Parliament last night, comprising a broad range of amendments to existing laws to help combat the spread of COVID-19. The Local Government Legislation has been amended to include the following: 1) Council can hold official meetings electronically. 2) The Minster has the power to postpone local government elections for 12 months, with a possible further 6 month extension, should the need arise. This power will automatically expire after 12 months. I would urge everyone to stay home as much as possible during this time. I know it is a difficult time for everyone but there are cases in the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven so no one is immune. I will post updates as the situation evolves.

10.01.2022 The September council elections are to be postponed

10.01.2022 This won't end well

09.01.2022 I am currently at the Ulladulla Disaster Recovery Centre where people are registering for assistance after the bushfires. If you have been affected by the fires and need assistance of any kind come down and register. Once registered there are representatives from a range of services here whi you can speak to. It doesn't matter how ypu have been impacted or thst yoi feel that others have been affectex worse than you, they are here to help. NB. If you registered during the initial evacuation period you wil need to register again.

02.01.2022 The current huge rainfall is impacting council's sewage scheme with Nowra, Bomaderry, Berry and Culburra being the worst affected. The Greenwell Point/Orient Point schemes were also affected by power outages yesterday and prior to power being restored, Shoalhaven water staff deployed generators. Thank you to the Shoalhaven water staff for working in this terrible weather to fix the problems with the sewage pumping stations and also to all our emergency service workers and volunteers who are working to keep us safe. The best thing we can all do to help is to stay at home unless we have to go out.
