23.01.2022 MOZZIE SPRAYING Aerial mosquito treatment is planned for Tuesday 15 December and may extend into the following day. The aerial mosquito treatment will be undertaken by helicopters, commencing around 12 noon, covering areas such as Tinchi Tamba Wetlands, Bald Hills, Brighton, Boondall Wetlands, Brisbane Airport, Port of Brisbane, Pinkenba, Tingalpa, Hemmant and along Bulimba and Tingalpa Creeks, as well as Mud, St Helena and Green Islands (weather conditions permitting).... 20.01.2022 FREE Movie in the Park TONIGHT

20.01.2022 You may have seen reports of a fatality at OCallaghan Park yesterday evening. This is incredibly sad news and devastating for a family that is grieving. Zillmere is a unique and close-knit community in Brisbane and is a real melting pot of culture. Weve always been very successful at celebrating our differences, because they are what makes this community strong. The violence we saw is unacceptable and has no place in our community. We cant let people use these events to se...ek to divide the community. We shouldnt tolerate incendiary language that is designed to insight intolerance towards any group of people. Ive spoken with our state member, Leanne Linard, this morning and we will continue work together with our local Police to ensure community safety. Ill also be in contact with Council today, to renew our calls for improved lighting, access and safety throughout the complex.

18.01.2022 Well this would be a disaster for anyone who uses Gympie Road or the Bruce Highway! Its all well and good for politicians to champion projects - but when experts give it to you straight - best not to just call them liars

18.01.2022 Exciting few days ahead - keep an eye out for this years line up!

18.01.2022 Here is some useful and detailed information on this weekend’s lockdown

18.01.2022 "Suffering in silence is not the answer, asking for help is never weak." Today is our opportunity to ask a mate, a colleague or a family member how theyre doing, it takes two minutes and could have a lifetime of impact. We cant let them go it alone. ... Dont be afraid to ask. Dont be afraid to answer. - R U OK Day 2020

17.01.2022 SANDGATE NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: I have received an update from the Neighbourhood Planning Team regarding the next stage of the draft Sandgate Neighbourhood Plan. see below for more details **************************************... The draft strategy for the Sandgate District Neighbourhood Plan underwent community consultation in late 2019. Council officers have been considering the range of matters raised in the community feedback on the draft strategy, and are developing the draft statutory neighbourhood plan for the area. The next step is for the draft statutory neighbourhood plan to go to Council for consideration, before being sent to the state government for the consideration of state interests and to seek approval to commence statutory public notification. At this stage it is anticipated that the draft statutory neighbourhood plan will be available for public consultation in early to mid-next year. ************************************** I know there was a significant community interest in this neighbourhood plan and Ive made it very clear to the Lord Mayor and Planning Chair in Council, that our communitys wishes must be taken into account when this draft plan is released.

16.01.2022 Having a solid commitment to making Brisbane a carbon neutral city would be a game changer in the national conversation about how to deal with climate change. Acting now will get us ahead of the game. Read my opinion piece in BrisbaneNow

16.01.2022 Answers to questions about mask wearing:

15.01.2022 SUE'S KORNER - COURIER MAIL - STORY EXCERPT BELOW - "A $1 million overhaul is set to breathe new life into Sue’s Korner after the popular Boondall shopping hub was chosen for inclusion in the Brisbane City Council Village Precinct Project.... The project aims to increase the centre’s overall attractiveness, amenity, safety and accessibility, which could include improving footpaths, planting trees and gardens, installing street furniture and minor civil works. Councillor for Deagon Ward Jared Cassidy has been campaigning and petitioning for the Sue’s Korner upgrade since the Village Precinct Project was announced in 2018. An upgrade is well and truly needed, (Sue’s Korner) is dilapidated and dated, Cr Cassidy said. The business owners have done a lot to lift the look and feel of their properties but the public spaces haven’t kept up at all, there’s been no work done there and it’s well beyond time." It’s very visible, smack bang in the middle of Boondall, and by making those visual amenities nicer it will give the whole suburb a lift. PROJECT OUTLINE - Stage 1 of the development process will begin midway through the year when a concept design and internal investigations begin. Once those plans are in place the project will officially launch in February 2022, at which time the plans will be reviewed by councillors and become open for community engagement. Construction isn’t expected to begin until January 2023, with a planned completion date in July of that year. - STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES

15.01.2022 SANDGATE HAWKS - BRAND NEW FENCE After securing funding for the Sandgate Hawks earlier this year it's great to see the fence up and in action. I had the chance to speak with Club President Chad Polinski about how funding has helped the club and what's coming up for one of the Northside's favourite footy clubs!... FROM AGES 3 to 63 COME AND PLAY FOOTY WITH THE HAWKS! OPEN DAY - Saturday 6th Feburary from 10am - 2pm

15.01.2022 Just over five years ago, Dad had my back when I was sworn in as a Councillor. That day wasnt any different - he always has Happy Fathers Day!

14.01.2022 WET WEATHER = MOZZIES Brisbane residents want to be able to enjoy Christmas at home without the fear of Ross River Fever buzzing around their back decks. This recent wet weather is yet another reminder that mosquito problems are worse than ever this year. ... More boots on the ground and better resources for our mozzie teams are absolutely vital. Sign the petition below to demand better from the Lord Mayor. https://www.megaphone.org.au//fix-brisbane-s-mozzie-madnes

14.01.2022 While having the opportunity to Chair the Zillmere Senior Citizens AGM I also had the chance to present Mrs Betty Gane with a token of our communities appreciation after 47 years of service to the Zillmere Seniors. Betty is a strong, straight to the point kind of character with an unbelievable work ethic and today was a great chance to show how much she is valued. Zillmere and the wider Deagon Ward is lucky to have her!!

14.01.2022 Fighting for our suburbs

12.01.2022 COVID-19 With the changing COVID-19 situation it is now more important than ever to reinforce our social distancing measures. Stirling Hinchliffe MP and I both ask that if you are SICK ... 1. Stay at HOME 2. Get TESTED

12.01.2022 You would be hard pressed to find a community more united right now than ours right here on the Northside. By all accounts the Deagon Ward has shown amazing resilience and discipline the past two days - pulling together behind the Premier’s plan to deny the Virus a foothold in Qld. Seeing the community respond by staying at home and masking up when out and about has reminded me how proud I am to be part of this community - all working together.... Further to this point the Queensland Police Commissioner has recently stated "The public and the community have been pretty amazing in terms of compliance, so we're incredibly pleased... Well done to everyone and keep it up!!

09.01.2022 Great to attend the raffle draw this morning - congratulations to the lucky winners!!

08.01.2022 Todays the final Council meeting before recess, and Ive decided to bring the Council Zoom chamber to the Deagon Ward Office! Can you spot the trees from the Einbunpin Lagoon Parklands out the window?

08.01.2022 CAUTION IN FLOODWATER. After recent flooding from rain and high tides various streets around Sandgate, Brighton and Deagon have been affected. Unnecessary driving through these streets can cause further property damage. I have raised the issue of road closures during these events with Council - but when there is water over the road please avoid driving through there unless absolutely necessary. ... With a very wet summer predicted this localised flooding could occur again over the coming months.

07.01.2022 Looking for great dinner options tonight? Be sure to check out Sandgates newest restaurant!

05.01.2022 Todays COVID update - 1 confirmed case:

04.01.2022 COUNCIL MEETING In this weeks Council meeting I spoke about my petiton to support fantastic northside business RampAttak Indoor Skatepark in finding a new home. It was excellent to see this supported at Council.... We also discussed the Lord Mayors lacklustre COVID economic response. Its a phony surplus that needs to be replaced with local, shovel ready infrastructure projects.

04.01.2022 Elected officials should not be regurgitating the lines of conspiracy theorists. The Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeannette Young, has been doing a fantastic job keeping Queenslanders safe. The last thing we need is people like John-Paul Langbroek sitting in our Parliament during this crisis, or ever.

04.01.2022 Better, more secure jobs mean better outcomes for ratepayers

04.01.2022 Curlew Park - Bungama St Bridge After an outstanding local effort to bring Council’s attention to safety issues on the Curlew Park Bridge - Council committed to making this path SAFER. With several incidents along this stretch of path the solution needed to be one that had a real impact on how users interacted with each other and the bridge itself.... Has this problem really been fixed by repainting the centreline and a new sign? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

04.01.2022 Scott Morrison is the only world leader who still backs Trump.

04.01.2022 We aren’t letting this go. Protect residents. Take Action. Petition link below ... https://www.megaphone.org.au//fix-brisbane-s-mozzie-madnes

03.01.2022 FREE Movie in the Park Great to see the local community welcome in the New Year with 2021’s first Movie in the Park! If you missed out tonight come down next Tuesday to join us for Australia Day by the Bay (FREE CONCERT) at the Einbunpin Lagoon parklands. ... Looking forward to more events like this in 2021!!

02.01.2022 BOONDALL GYG You may have heard the very sad news that Sultans Restaurant will be closing its doors in the coming months. Sultans has been a fantastic local business for the last 15 years and I wish the owners and staff all the very best for the future. Since this news, it has come to my attention that Guzman y Gomez have recently put in a development application for the site on Sandgate Rd ... Would you be keen for a GYG right here in Boondall?
