25.01.2022 So, a silver colander is placed on ones head and one becomes Sir Lancelot .... why is there a knight in this afternoon’s Museums play? ‘‘Twas the night before C...hristmas Oh yes and there were many more play on words that had everyone laughing and enjoying this afternoon’s Museums Christmas Party. On the serious side, some very dedicated volunteers were given their service badges with Doug Alexander being given the honour of life membership. Congratulations to Doug and thank you to all the passionate volunteers at our award winning Redlands Museum. The museum is a great place to volunteer as there is such a variety of interests for both men and women with everyone having a great deal of fun while making wonderful friendships. I look forward to continuing to support and work with the museum as it certainly is a valuable asset to Redlands. Merry Christmas and thank you to all the Museum volunteers
24.01.2022 Recognised Koala breeding and feeding habitat was commenced to be cleared today at Cowley Street, Ormiston. As my previous post dated 25-01-21 clarifies the sit...uation of the vacant land at Cowley Street and previous actions taken to attempt to protect the habitat, I won't repeat all the information. Todays habitat clearing highlights the gaps in both the State Koala mapping and present environmental protection in Redland City Council's City Plan to protect valued habitat therefore I would like to believe that this devastating loss will be an example to assist in lobbying for future amendments to both. The area was sub divided in 1886 and remained in private ownership.....as both the State mapping and Council's City Plan at present exempt clearing on lots 500m2 and less in urban areas these blocks therefore have not protection. I stood today with the Koala Action Group and we remembered how it was October 2008 when we first discussed how to possibly increase protection on the lots. Years later and all avenues exhausted we sadly today stood again at the habitat. Two koalas were spotted early in the morning , by the koala spotter, and work in that western area of the blocks ceased. Until the koalas move ,on their own account, work will not commence in that area. It is an extremely distressing situation for our City's environmental future when habitat of this value can be cleared as it is a vital link - recognised foreshore Wildlife Corridor and recognised as State Koala mapping as an area of local significance - and should be recognised for its value for several future reasons. I will continue to monitor works on the site and to continue my lobbying for increased protection of our City's largest economic asset - our natural environment.
24.01.2022 Out and about this afternoon looking at various sites throughout the City as council has a full General Meeting Agenda this Wednesday . Popped into Liner Street... to see how the installation of the new play infrastructure was proceeding... it is always rewarding to see enhancements in our neighbourhoods. See more
24.01.2022 Traffic issues at Sturgeon Street Ormiston, Thank you to the resident who contacted me this morning in regards to the traffic concerns being caused by the new d...evelopment on the corner of Sturgeon Street and the Norther Arterial Ormiston. Council officers have been in contact with the development contractors earlier today with an on-site visit to review their permit, discuss concerns and find an acceptable solution to improve the situation . Appreciate the message earlier to alert me so council could address the issue.
23.01.2022 Pieces of Us An exhibition of water colours, pastels and acrylics by Philip Van Niekerk and Gillian Goldsworthy ... This weekend at the Yurara Gallery Pinklands Tonight I had the pleasure of opening Gillian’s and Philip’s beautiful art exhibition . I love art and all that art gives not only the creator but also those of us that admire. Philips boat watercolours reminded me of my dearly loved Uncle Doug and going out on his boat with the family as a child while Gillian’s love of gardening and plants is evident in her pieces. One of her pieces is titled Once upon a time, and you can feel this painting..... it looks like the big bad wolf is hiding ready to pounce. See if you can pick which painting I mean when you visit. Both of these artists have placed a piece of themselves in each of their works so it is so fitting that their exhibition is titled Pieces of Us. Open this week end, between between 7-00am and 3-00pm at Yurara , 264 - 366 Cleveland Redland Bay Rd., Thornlands.
22.01.2022 Please have you say on the proposed changes to areas throughout the City in regards to animal management...
22.01.2022 I visited Cowley Street early this morning and the two koalas remain in the trees. The koala spotter (who is a very caring person and I have faith in his judgem...ent) has sectioned off the western lots with yellow tape and no work will commence in this area till the koalas move on by their own accord. Let's get it right.....I want your feedback to achieve this so please click on the link. It's easy..name and address. What is your Vision? How do you think it can be achieved? Which projects would you like to see happen in Redlands? Forward an email or use the document on Councils web site...just please do something you have your feedback included. 20.01.2022 Ormiston State School Senior Parade of Excellence 2020 I enjoyed a wonderful ceremony of celebration at OSS this afternoon.... It seems strange the end of year is suddenly here after missing so many school events. Congratulations to the school staff on smashing all challenges this year and delivering through different channels for our local students. Congrats also to all students for their dedication to their studies and achieving such amazing results!!!!! I wish everyone a Relaxing and Happy Christmas Season and here’s to a fantastic 2021!!! Ormiston State - you should be proud of your community!
20.01.2022 That was an amazingly fun evening and the Ginger Bread House made a very Christmassy photo back drop! To have community individuals , community groups and busin...esses all unite is what our spirit is all about ! Mario from Tanjas - you’re awesome- Organsing yearly Carols with Trinity Uniting Church for everyone to enjoy and this year there was even a play from the Museum’s theatre group! I have to definitely give a thank you to the Local community A team who decorated the Ginger Bread House ( Have bigger ideas for next year) and Village and Cathy from Village Creative who helped with the making of the water resistant Christmas decorations. 19.01.2022 Advice of Sub divisions application RAL 20/0063 standard Format 1 lot into 10 159 -169 Delancey Street, Ormiston... I wish to advise residents that an application to subdivide the above lot into 10 lots is currently being assessed by Council. At present the application is open for public submissions as there are sections of the application that don’t comply with the Redland Council City Plan. Originally this lot was entirely zoned Environmental Management however the owners requested a zone change to Low Density Residential through the planning scheme amendment process, which amended the zone to conservation and low density residential. The zone boundary is in line with the State koala mapping in place at the time of the zone change. The State koala mapping was amended in February 2020 and no longer aligns with the zone boundary for the site. With the proposed lot layout some lots are located wholly or partly in the Conservation zone section of the block which doesn’t comply with the planning scheme. It is due to this non-compliance that the application becomes an impact assessment application and therefore public notification is currently taking place. The period for you to write to Council expressing any views or concerns is open until the 17/12/2020. If you would like any further clarification please don’t hesitate to email me, Warm regards, Wendy
19.01.2022 Tonight I attended the AGM for Connect 2 Group... This Group have been assisting families in the Redlands area since 1993 and this year was no exception. While ...other organisations closed Connect 2 Group out the meaning into the words innovate and pivot which allowed them to be able to attend to their clients needs. Keeping a constant focus on their clients needs they have also successfully navigated the year of challenges in regards to finances and COVID restrictions. They have every reason to be proud of their activities and support they give the community. Painting , gardening, cooking, outings all achieve positive outcomes plus finding clients work brings a smile to everyone! Well done Connect 2 Group for your ongoing commitment and I look forward to continuing to work with you and remaining your Patron.
19.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! The weeks are slipping past now and Christmas preparations are being discussed... busy time of year! Remember to take care of yourself st...ill after this extraordinary year. On my morning walk this morning I walked to Liner Street to see the progression on the new playground... as I have already received the feedback the local children are very excited! The new play infrastructure looks fabulous in this beautiful nature based local park so I’m with the children and am excited about seeing the new climbing structure etc being used.
17.01.2022 Wellington Point Village is buzzing! After an early morning meeting with Mark Robinson MP I’ve chatted with various Traders who are organising various Christmas... events such as tonight’s wreath making at The Beach House with a local florist. Great to see collaboration between businesses. Tanyas are busily organising their annual Carolling and there’s still more happening leading into Christmas for we locals to enjoy. Let’s get behind our local businesses with heaps of Christmas spirit and join in the fun.... I was also able to return my library books at the wonderful mobile library! Now onto the business expo...
17.01.2022 Another fun Annual luncheon to celebrate Redlands Bocce Christmas Party at the Redlands Sporting Club In typical Italian style - lots of food and music plus... awards and thank you’s. Special mention has to be given to Kerri, the Bocci president, who has been a champion for not only our local Bocci Club but on a State Level. Her passion for our Club and the game has steered through all the challenges of this year for the Club to actually have extra members . Bocci is very strategic and fun .... there really is a lot of skill and knack to the game. I would like to organise some social open to the community days in the new year as I m sure we would all enjoy learning. This year there had been preparations to celebrate 50 years of Bocci. Sadly these plans were cancelled but today we were all presented with a 50 year pin to commemorate the occasion. Don Seccombe, Julie Talty and I presented this year’s awards which were only for the in Club competitions due to COVID. Here’s looking forward to 2021 and well done to Redlands Bocci for despite the restrictions you still had an amazing year with games, fun and friendships !
17.01.2022 I love our wetlands...their beauty is breathtaking and their value is priceless. Once we had finished this morning's planting, I held a quick pop up community c...onsultation regarding the draft Corporate Plan which is currently out for public comment. The main change or difference is that previously there was a Community Plan which was the Vision document by the people after an extensive consultation. The Corporate Plan was more an internal operational document. Now, Councillors have decided the Community Plan is to be swallowed into the new Corporate Plan. This means the new Corporate Plan will be the Vision document for 20 years plus the operational document for 5 years . An important aspect are the Catalyst Projects - do they align with the community's vision? This is important as these will be the projects where budget funding is targeted...please have your say on the draft Plan as once published you will have lost your chance for input in your City's Vision. See previous posts for links. Then I couldn't resist a short walk over the wetlands to see if any migratory shorebirds have arrived. I'm not sure what birds were in the flock but it looks like the birds are here feeding on this precious international recognised RAMSAR wetlands. The story of the different species and the thousands upon thousands of kilometres they fly to return each year to feed and rest up is an incredible story and one worth knowing. I'll try and get some pictures over the coming weeks to explain why I always get excited about our wetlands :)
17.01.2022 Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to our amazing vokunteers from our Redlands Cancer Branch Is there anyone that hasn’t personally been affected by... Cancer? Either ourselves, our family , our friends or our work colleagues? Sadly I doubt if there is anyone. That’s is why the work of this passionate and dedicated group is so vital as all funds raised goes to funding cancer prevention research. Today it was lovely to see these tireless workers ... sitting, chatting and laughing rather than putting up marquees, cooking, making jams and craft, washing up, potting plants, raffles, serving etc etc . I have been involved with the Branch since my father passed from cancer 20 years ago and I am still in awe of their efforts year after year. I’m so glad everyone had a chance to relax and enjoy some Christmas cheer and I say thank you yet again and wish everyone the very best for a wonderfully Merry Christmas! You are all hero’s!
17.01.2022 Ormiston State School is beginning to prepare for their 150th Anniversary. I asked our wonderful library staff what information Council may have in the files a...nd .... doesn’t this make interesting reading . The old Corporal Punishment Book - I hope I haven’t disclosed anyone’s great Grandpas secrets
15.01.2022 It was such a fun community Christmas celebration tonight and what an amazing line up to be on stage with including Santa!!! A huge thank you to Councils event ...team that did a great job organising the evenings including the COVID extra requirements . Tonight, Santa and I counted down to turn the lights on and the children were a great help to make sure everyone heard the countdown I hope everyone enjoyed the evening and enjoys a well deserved Christmas break, our community was amazing this year in being responsible, supporting each other and being resilient! A Huge shout to everyone as I know everyone played a part in keeping Redlands safe. Remember only 5 more sleeps so continue to be good....
15.01.2022 New pathway Jacob street Wellington Point Recently I have received a couple of enquiries re this new pathway presently under construction ...... "Thank you for your enquiry regarding the upgraded pathway along the nature reserve between Jacob Street and Valley Road. This section of pathway is part of the Priority Cycle Network Plan which is developed by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads with Local Councils. This plan is a state wide network plan which aims to make it easy to use a bicycle as an everyday form of transport by developing a network of cycle routes that service people on their journey to work, school and public transport. When conducting renewal or upgrade works along lengths of path that are part of this network plan, Council aims to build new paths to the guidelines set by the Department of transport and Main Roads. These guidelines include set widths (preferably 3m where possible) and safety tolerances for horizontal and vertical alignment of the path. To achieve a safe cycle friendly pathway within these safety tolerances, some trees will be removed as part of this project. All trees removed will be offset with new plantings in the area. This project will ultimately contribute to a larger network of cycle friendly pathways across Redland City. We trust this information is of assistance and we thank you for taking an interest in the amenity of our City. presently '
15.01.2022 Love working with our local businesses! Picked up the cellophane from Glenys , our local florist, as tonight some Christmas creations will be made for the ...Village. Glenys works from home and her bunches can be found in Sula, Wellington Point Village but this afternoon I was admiring her wreaths! If you need anything floral don’t hesitate to contact Glenys as she is amazingly talented! See you next week Glenys at the Christmas Street Gathering , Wellington Point Village
15.01.2022 A special Ormiston House Local... When Vern was mowing last week he had a visitor stroll across the front lawn. The mature trees along the Ormiston foreshore ar...e a recognised wildlife corridor and having these areas allow safe travel for all wildlife for feeding and breeding. These corridors link the core or main vital feeding / breeding areas that are mainly in State or Council identifies owned conservation areas. Without these corridors the core habitat areas cannot be reached so less breeding and feeding ...making species less sustainable. These corridors previously had protection in our Redland Planning Scheme however when the new City Plan was adopted in 2018 there is no recognition or protection . I have been working to have this protection taken out for public consultation to listen to what the community wants and how to protect these areas however there isn’t sufficient support amongst councillors to pursue this protection at present. Hopefully there will be some protection in future and our wildlife will continue to have safe areas and stroll across the lawn at Ormiston House.... and our whole City.

13.01.2022 Wellington Point High’s and Wellington Point State School’s P&C Meetings were held this evening. The parents at the High tonight were able to have subject selec...tion clarified for year 11 students. Parents were very grateful for the in-depth reports and being able chat with the teachers including the Principal on this selection process. An extremely informative meeting with the Principal’s report also highlighting the various events the school has been able to hold, all of which assisted with mental health of the students over this challenging year. Then onto the Primary School - from year 12 to little prep news. Uniforms, tuckshop menu and volunteers were discussed this evening plus preparing for the new little ones and students for the coming year. I would suggest attending the P&C meetings - Ormiston State School was on Monday night- as while the committees are working hard for your school and staff always attend to inform the parents, if you would like a voice come along as all are very welcome.

13.01.2022 Championing local businesses.... Local business expo on today at the Alex Hills Hotel until 4:00pm. Guest business speakers all day so if you have time pop along and support local!
12.01.2022 SEQ Councillors 2020 Forum - was held yesterday and was a very informative day. Interesting speakers and a couple of highlighted points:- was Romilly Madew, ...CEO of Infrastructure Australia, who spoke about the need for community consultation and participation and using smaller projects as COVID recovery rather than larger one. - also the Mayor of Toowoomba who spoke of the value of tourism to his City and area and the importance of the environment in attracting visitors. Previously there use to be not only the Council of Mayors but also regional working groups where Councillors could participate. Since the ComSEQ (SEQ Council of Mayors) dissolved those smaller working groups I have missed the networking opportunities with other councillors. Today was not only informative but allowed us to talk with other councillors and I feel this exchange of ideas and advice is always beneficial. Good to chat up with Michael Enright from Beaudesert and learn what is happening in the Beaudesert area - interesting but not surprising, the accommodation in our rural region is 80% already booked up until mid 2021. This includes their caravan parks - shame Redlands still doesn't have one to also benefit of the Queensland travel. Please read further for a quick summary of the day's speakers and presentations.
12.01.2022 Congratulations to Redlands Softball! This afternoon I enjoyed watching the Grand Final and then join the Club for their seasons Seniors Presentations. For ove...r forty years Redlands Softball has been a fantastic community family orientated Club in Ormiston. In this COVID impacted playing season there were six local Clubs that participated and Redlands Softball were only Club that went for a full season ! A credit to all our local committees amazing efforts! Redlands even picked up a few extra Clubs from areas that weren’t holding competitions this season. Overall Redlands Softball Club were awarded the best Club and this is a testament to the tireless dedication and passion for the game and their players that this Club displays in every aspect. The softball grounds are first class and it’s lovely to watch a game with such a view. Well done to all our local softball clubs and I look forward to continuing working with you next season.
11.01.2022 Update and history of Cowley Street Ormiston Readers of the Bayside Bulletin may remember an article stressing the plight of this valuable habitat in an article... dated - Redland City Bulletin May 31 2019 Ormiston resident calls for Redland City plan review to protect koala trees on Cowley Street. https://www.redlandcitybulletin.com.au//review-our-city-p/ Last Friday, 22-01-21, fencing was erected in regards to the vacant lots 3 53 Cowley Street Ormiston which contain extremely valuable koala feeding and breeding habitat. These vacant, vegetated lots are in private ownership and records show have been sub divided since 1886. On Friday, once alerted to the fencing, council staff visited the site and spoke to a contractor associated with the land who stated the tree might be cleared possibly cleared with the next weeks. This is extremely disheartening news as though the value of these blocks is recognised the land is not protected. At present although there is State Koala Habitat Protection and local Redland City Council Environmental Protection the lots on Cowley Street fall through the system. Please see below for reasoning.- Please see the following points in regards to the State koala habitat mapping and regulations in relation to the vacant lots on Cowley Street: 1. The new and previous State Koala Habitat Area mapping does map the subject vacant lots on Cowley Street as a koala habitat area (locally refined koala habitat area). 2. The State Koala Regulatory Provisions (Planning Regulation 2017) prohibit clearing of native vegetation where mapped as koala habitat area and in a Koala Priority Area (Redland mainland) unless exempt. Clearing in koala habitat areas of up to 500m2 is exempt. This means that the State regulatory provisions will not apply to clearing the habitat on the subject vacant lots on Cowley Street as the habitat on each lot would be less than 500m2 and would be exempt. In regards to local Council Protection on vegetation:- In 2018 a new City Plan was approved where it was decided that clearing of vegetation would be regulated through the City plan. The Environmental Significant Overlay was expanded to cover the entire mainland of Redlands. However in the urban area, such as Cowley Street, lots under <1000m2 were clipped out of the overlay protection. This means the Environmental Significant Overlay does not protect this habitat. At this stage Local law 6 Protection of Vegetation is still in place and still contains provisions that allow for the declaration of a vegetation protection order. Sadly there is another however, it should be noted that the Local Government Act prevents local governments from making a local law that establishes an alternative development process. Which effectively means that if the matter, in this case clearing of vegetation is dealt with through the planning scheme, it cannot also be dealt with through a Local Law. Therefore legal advice states that Council could continue to use the local law to protect other value that are not environmental significance therefore Local Law cannot be used to protect the habitat on Cowley Street for environmental reason. A vegetation protection order under local Law 6 could only be declared under another reasoning (which I also investigated) a) A valuable part of the natural heritage of the area b) important for its aesthetic value or its beneficial effect on the amenity of the locality in which it is situated Both points, in my opinion, were sufficient to place a VPO on the trees of concern however unfortunately were not previously supported. For further history on the lots please see following timeline of actions that have been taken for a decade in an attempt to find a process that would be supported to protect this habitat. Cowley Street Timeline of Actions Taken by Cr Wendy Boglary Date Action 15th October 2008 After consultation with local residents I started a process to place protection on the trees Discussions were had with the Koala Action Group with suggestions that recommendations would be forwarded to the Koala Taskforce. 3rd November 2008 Officers are Drafting a report for council to save the land 6th November 2008 Arranging a petition with community to save Cowley Street 19th December 2008 I wrote to investigate the present owner’s intentions for the land and also met with then State MP Phil Weightman. 17 April 2015 Enquiry about changing zoning to conservation as workshops were being held in regards to the drafting of the new City Plan and also enquiring about Council investigating purchasing the land 2016 Emails from residents asking to save the trees. Working through City Plan to try and have protection included that will impact these lots. 27-01-2016 Enquiry about VPO’s / continued discussion re draft City Plan environmental protection 2-11-2017 Though no application lodged enquiry about development on the 26 lots zoned urban residential, intended for dwelling houses. Possibly land for sale. 18-01-2018 Discussion re acquisitions 6th June 2018 3-53 Cowley Street, Ormiston discussion re Rezone lots from Low Density Residential in the draft City Plan to Conservation or part Low Density Residential/ part Conservation 23rd August 2018 Confidential land valuation 10th October 2018 Cowley street Planning Scheme I tried to have the zoning changed to conservation during the City Plan workshops October 2018 City Plan adopted I voted against the Plan as in my opinion environmental Protection of lots and valuable environmental corridors was decreased and allowed gaps in the City’s environmental protection. (also several other concerns one being density increase) 20th March 2019 Email again clarifying there is no protection 20th March 2019 Council voted to purchase land at Cleveland Point, was hopeful purchase of Cowley Street would also be supported. 20th March Email to Residents - see letter below to give residents knowledge of the lots. 20th March 2019 Dear Residents, This email is in regards to lots 3 53 Cowley Street, Ormiston Please excuse that I have blind copied several residents into this email. Many of you have already contacted me and others I have included as I know or thought you may be interested in Cowley Street. Recently there has been activity on these lots. My initial enquiries covered that:- Council had carried out shoulder maintenance work picked up on our regular inspections Council also had surveyors on site for routine update of mapping programs. When I was first contacted by residents regarding activity on these lots this was all the information I had to hand so thought the surveyors were Councils. After having seeing the works carried out on the blocks I asked our Council officers again last week and they had a look at the site for me. They think perhaps a private surveyor has been on the lots and has surveyed the existing lots hence the markers. This update concerned me greatly as have the various phone calls and emails I have receivedthank you. This area has always been subdivided but the owner and simply left vacant so there was no requirement to come to council for this recent work as there was no subdivision required, simply marking existing blocks. To this moment, I have heard nothing official concerning these block however with the recent works on the lots I have concerns as these valuable trees have no protection. Some history of these lots:- This land is zoned low density residential this is historical no new change Under the previous Redlands planning Scheme however there was a Koala Habitat Overlay covering the area which would have resulted in development conditions if there was removal of trees. Under the new City Plan, adopted by Council October 2018 (I did not vote in favour of the Plan) the Koala Habitat Overlay was removed and these lots are not mapped with the Environment Significance Overlay due to the methodology used to generate the overlay, lots less than 1000m2 with a LDR zoning were clipped. Therefore there is now no protection on these trees and I cannot see any protection mechanism for this vegetation. The area has been recognised and on scientifically based environmental values is included in a high value Coastal Foreshore Environmental Corridor. These coastal corridors are a high priority for protection and rehabilitation however were never placed into the City Plan. ( I have been working since 2014 to have some recognition given to the corridors and have them included in the new City Plan. Recently 6 Councillors supported an amendment package to be sent to the State Gov. to seek permission to go out for public consultation to allow some corridors to be included in the City Plan and this will at least give these areas some level of protection if it is approved at that stage.) RCC Regional Ecosystems 2015 mapping indicates that a large portion of the land contains endangered regional ecosystems in the western and central parts. RCC’s Koala habitat 2015 mapping indicates the site contains significant coverage of koala habitat vegetation The site is identified as an area of koala habitat value with breeding occurring each season. The trees on the site are identified as koala food trees and classified as primary Food Trees or Secondary Food Trees for koalas.including blue gums, iron bark's, bloodwoods and melaleucas with two areas of regrowth vegetation. Over the years I have asked Council to increase protection of vegetation on these lots by any means available including changing the zoning of these lots. I have been told previously these lots are presently not in any threat. It was always obvious that one day they would be and I believe now is frighteningly that time. Being normal house lots they can be sold and houses built on them without coming to Council unless the builder is doing something that isn’t code assessable. I have been talking to many people over the last week externally and internally to desperately try and find out more information and I will continue to work for what can be achieved for environmental outcomes. I will not be writing on Facebook etc at present as I am respectful this is a private persons land and I have to be careful not to under the Local Government Regulations (h) other business for which a public discussion would likely to prejudice the interest of a local government or someone else, or enable a person to gain a financial advantage. This area is a documented valuable foreshore corridor however the corridors have not received sufficient support from councillors. Presently under review however this work was to be completed and included in the adoption of the Plan in 2018 however has remained sufficiently unsupported to progress the works and in my opinion delayed. 22nd January 2021 Fencing erected to secure lots. Council staff spoke to contractors who stated trees to be possibly cleared in next week. 25th January 2021 Updated this time line and posted to Facebook for residents to have knowledge of actions taken plus will email to the many residents who have expressed concern. This pending action is such a devastating result for our local community for environmental, economic and livability reasons.
11.01.2022 After a great morning talking with Cr Berridge about activities in our various areas and Wellington Point Village, including showing Adelia the mobile library i...n the Village Green and ... Then walking the Village streets plotting with the Traders re our late night shopping Christmas fun on the 19th December .... (keep in our diary) Adelia Berridge and I also chatted with residents who were, for memory 5th generation Redlanders , and out celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary with a breakfast at Tanjas.... a wonderful loving milestone to be able to celebrate, congratulations I then drive to office to find it is Human Rights Day and we have a hand message wall! The message to consider human rights when making decisions should be a natural given but in so many areas across the world this is not the case so it is good to pause and reflect.

Great opportunity for Christmas shopping, delicious food and music! See you there !
10.01.2022 Please have your say.... The new Corporate Plan is no longer an internal directional document but also the Vision for 20 years. Previously there was an overarching document the Redlands 2030 Communtiy Plan which will now be swallowed up in the Corporate Plan. The community needs their voice to be heard to ensure the new City Vision is also a community Vision .... Happy to chat to any group as Council has produced a DIY consultation kit.... make sure you’re heard !

10.01.2022 An exciting way to start any day with a tour of the international recognised Redlands Research Facility at Ormiston, established 1948! Thanks to Cleveland Rota...ry for supplying breakfast at this Chamber of Commerce event... This is one of the most innovative, forward thinking Research facilities you’ll find in Australia. Research into:- Turf Blueberries, raspberries, Vertical urban farming, Hydrogen Fisheries Sharks Agricultural diseases Fly farming Bees Solar ....To name just a few projects that are on site , many from international companies leading the way with Australian ingenuity! Always encouraging to see our local businesses progressing..... and good to see our Redlands Chanber of Commerce on the wall of supporters! 09.01.2022 Tonight Cr Julie Talty and I attended the AGM for Redlands Cricket Inc. This Club faced many challenges this year with COVID , season changes etc and has come t...hrough as a stronger even more united Club. Yes winning is fun but emphasis at Redlands Cricket is placed on the players both on and off the oval. Every year I commend the Club for the support they give each other and the community as it is obvious to anyone who visits . This year was exceptional for their care and concern factor. Their Facebook family photos as well as game information and the fact that the Club House was filled tonight with dozens of young players shows the bond these members foster and value. Congratulations to Darren and others on this year’s committee for their handling of the challenges and well done to the new Committee that has so readily stood up tonight.... new president is Wayne Todman. Thanks to Doug also for his very talented photography throughout the Season. Huge congratulations and well deserved to Matthew Williamson for being presented by Mark French with life membership. Matthew has supported so many areas within the Club and community for a number of years and certainly deserves this recognition. I look forward to continuing to work with the Club and encourage anyone interested in Cricket to come on down and join in the fun.
09.01.2022 Presently there are several very important City wide proposals by Council in the community consultation phases... One is the activation of parks across the Ci...ty by allowing commercial operators to have permitted times in certain areas. Please read below link to the "your say Council survey" on Councils web site where you can complete a submission if you have any concerns or views on a park near you.
09.01.2022 Remember the Bookfest - nothing over $2-00. Being held today till 4:00pm ( yep I’ve changed shirts for a while) by Rotary and till lunch time on Sunday. If you’re like me you still like tonturn a page andnactually feel the book so I’ll see you soon
08.01.2022 Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area. Please have your concerns, views and thoughts added into this discussion... I am also interested in discussin...g the area with Kim Richards MP. Today Cr Adelia Berridge and myself spoke to local residents in the area to gather more feedback on this large planning proposal. I wanted to hear for myself but also support Adelia as she has been kept extremely busy trying to organise meetings and deliver information to the local residents to keep everyone informed. This is the beautiful scenic area along Woodlands Drive looking down over the valleys to the east, the rural areas around Sheldon College through to West Mt Cotton Road. The area has the potential to be an amazing tourist destination with so much natural beauty - fauna and flora. Some of the City's most valuable wildlife corridors are in this area connecting the urban areas to the valuable breeding and feeding habitats in the south. The planning of this area is vital to not destroy such a unique area which is on Brisbane's doorstep yet can offer a totally diverse experience from the big City - one that is being sought more and more especially with COVID . I am excited at the possibilities for the area but only if planned properly, thinking of the area as a whole for our City's future. Please use the link to Councils web site and have your say as it is your City being planned.
08.01.2022 Locals and visitors both love the street trees that the Traders have done .... this couple are visiting their family in Ormiston and loved the Village .
08.01.2022 What can I say? Thank you to the overwhelming support of Redlands community that allowed our Cancer Branch’s most amazingly dedicated volunteers to kick COVI...D challenges to the kerb! Tonight I enjoyed our first meeting, as a gathering in person, at the AGM of the Branch. It was lovely to see everyone’s smiling faces and have a chat. This tireless bunch throughout COVID pivoted and sold their usual stall products on line. This was a highly successful move with the Redlands community overwhelmingly supporting the Branch. As soon as able volunteers were holding their stalls again plus a Recipe book was produced . ( great Christmas present) Throughout COVID, while many were stomped with challenges, this group explored all opportunities and managed to raise a staggering ... $95,000- towards cancer prevention research!!! How amazing are these people!!!!! Add to the mix most are over 75 and plenty well over 80years of age!!! Haven’t we got big shoes to fill ? I’m so very proud of everyone from the plant sales that raise >$10,000, jams and craft >$10,000-, stalls over $20,000- , everyone works so passionately for the common cause. All volunteers thanked the Redlands community for their strong support which enabled the Branch to raise the much needed funds to fight cancer. Dr Supre , an extremely passionate and intelligent cancer prevention researcher, was again our most interesting speaker presenting details of her latest research. What I could follow was extremely interesting and it is your support and volunteer work that allows such vital research to continue . We can all do our bit while having some fun by attending their Cent Auction this Saturday. Thank you to the outgoing committee and thank you to those who have stood up again and to the new committee members!
07.01.2022 I am filled with pride!!! We laughed, we danced, we played games and totally enjoyed our community Australia Day at Wellington Point Reserve. Some days stop you... in your tracks and remind you of your blessings.... today was such a day. I know we already knew we were the best country in the world but presently the entire world is enviously looking at Australia and our lifestyle. Looking around at our gathering today, looking across our glistening Moreton Bay listening to the chatter of family and friends together having a meal.... it was definitely a moment that reminded me how tremendously fortunate we are to be in Redlands ! Thank you to all the volunteers , days like this don’t happen without you. and great work by Councils events team! Happy Australia Day
05.01.2022 Soroptimist International Bayside Incorporated welcomes us tonight to their annual.... Women’s Voices The theme this year was - Survival 2020... Dr Jeanette Young was the guest speaker - a very intelligent, inspirational and caring person who this year has faced, what others might have seen as insurmountable challenges, head on with strong sense of service , integrity, strength of character and a calmness that reassured our State. Thank you to the State Gov who early on in March while other States were still deciding, made a change to the Health Act so our professionals could make decisions and take action immediately..... rather than the long pricess of going through the Government. Doing this allowed Queensland to act more decisively and our results show it was the right decision. After a delicious dinner , Madina Mohmood interviewed Dominique Fegan, Alex Russo from Night Ninjas and Jasmin Stephenson. A wonderful night however even with Val from Revelations Wellington Point who was a supporter of the evening , sawing the raffle , I didn’t win araffprize

Grants are from $500,000 up to $1.8 million covering up to 100% of eligible project expenditure. 04.01.2022 Ormiston House - our beautiful reminder of an elegant , though tough, Redland’s pioneer farming past... This afternoon our dedicated and tireless volunteers wer...e treated to an afternoon tea , where they were able to sit! A different situation for these volunteers and though while only a small gesture of gratitude for all their efforts year after year, everyone enjoyed the afternoon of chatting on this magnificent veranda. Thank you to our volunteers who work in the kitchen, who serve the tables, who collect the payments, who work on the gate, who guide, who research, who mow and tend the beautiful grounds, who set up for events, who do the media.... I hope I haven’t missed any one as it is through this amazing team with a common intent who work so collaboratively together , also with our lovely Nuns, that Ormiston House is preserved and open for the public to enjoy. A National Heritage treasure right in our Redlands! We had a lot of catching up to do and it was simply lovely to see everyone - I did pinch the chief elf hat from Robbie We had a beautiful Osprey to watch circling and gliding overhead looking for afternoon tea in the Bay. Thank you again to our volunteers and here’s to the Hous being in full swing again in 2021.... Merry Christmas everyone

02.01.2022 Update on Shoreline development for 2020 proposed solution for the wastewater, there will be formal consultation at a future stage by the State . Like myself, I know there are many in the community who are interested in the Shoreline development so I am posting this update received as the Minister has agreed that the State will assess the new wastewater treatment system for the Shoreline area rather than council . 01.01.2022 I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas Season and while reflecting on the year past, I am so extremely grateful for family , friends and community, as all togeth...er we faced the challenges of 2020. Too many thank you’s to list for the support and assistance I received this year in many and varied circumstances, but I value everyone. Please don’t ever underestimate what a difference a simply smile and wave can make in a day. To all our charity and community groups, I take my hat off to all your volunteers who not stood up, but jumped up, to assist our marvellous Redlands community throughout the year. This was our family photo from two years ago....this year we will be connected with love via a zoom breakfast, all planned and I’ve had enough practise now I’ll probably be able to connect ( with volume) first time. No matter how or when we connect with family and friends this year take time to enjoy chatting and being together and the love we share. Merry Christmas Redlands and Friends - I am grateful for all of you! Bring on 2021- together we will make it a brilliant year
01.01.2022 Guess who we are waiting for as we look forward to the last evening of Christmas on the Coast?!
01.01.2022 What a great community evening.... the Village was buzzing with the Christmas Spirit in true Redlands style. The Trinity Uniting Church Choir were simply wonder...ful again with their carolling for everyone. Stall holders were all happy with the evening as were local Traders with numbers up! Well done as the intent was to support Local and that’s what happened while we all had an enjoyable evening .
