24.01.2022 We’ve had an ongoing friendship with @bowenstatehs for a number of years now. Thanks to Mr Peter Tawse for connecting with us and continuing to bring your students to visit us each year. This year we spent the day at @jamescookuniversity where we had a great discussion about affordability and sustainability with the students. We finished off the day with a walking tour of Science Place by @hassell_studio and Central Plaza by @coxarchitecture (and we also helped out a bit with that project during construction phase). A big thanks to Jane and David from JCU.

17.01.2022 We are extremely proud of our COOINDA HOUSE receiving the following accolades at the recent 2020 @institute_architects_qld Awards (NQ Region) REGIONAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR HOUSE OF THE YEAR... Architect Statement: The Client has named this house Cooinda - an indigenous word meaning a happy place. It is an apt name for this contemporary beach house for a large and enthusiastic extended family on beautiful Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville, North Queensland. The large accommodation brief of the home has been distilled into a simple architectural form and materiality that sites well in the context of a Magnetic Island street. The key design move was to create a central, double height outdoor room around which all of the functions of the house are arranged. This space creates connections between all spaces, and also becomes a key social gathering space. The greatest success of the scheme is the way in which it works just as well for a couple as it does for large family gatherings. These awards wouldn’t be possible without our positive and trusting client, and the consultants, builder Gedoun Property Group and subbies that brought this project to life #townsville #townsvilleshines #northqueensland #magneticisland #tropicalarchitecture #townsvillebusiness #townsvillelocal @ Magnetic Island

09.01.2022 ARCHITECT PAIR HAVE VISION FOR OLD SPACE TOWNSVILLE architects Mark Kennedy and Zammi Rohan are taking on their own design challenge after acquiring an old building in the CBD for their new premises. The directors of Counterpoint Architecture are investing in a significant fit-out for the former showroom at 487 Flinders Street and concede they have a lot to live up to, given the eye-catching look of their current leased premises in Ingham Road. ... That premises has a famed green wall featuring 800 hanging plants. We are putting a fair bit of effort into doing something unique. We are looking to incorporate some plantings and public art, Zammi said. It’s important. It’s how we present to the street, Mark said. They have contracted Citibuild to do the fit-out and first thing to go is a suspended ceiling, which has revealed the building’s original heritagestyle skylight. They will also reveal some of the building’s brickwork walls. Mark said that they would create a staff space and cafe-style lunchroom at the front of the building to bring some activity to the street edge. It will look alive and friendly , Zammi said. Zammi said that he felt it was important for them to move into the CBD and he encouraged others to consider a similar move to reinvigorate the area. We are bringing 13 people back into the CBD with our team, Zammi said. Agent Mark Fitzgerald of Knight Frank said the property needed a lot of work and vision so had gone to the right buyers. The market is currently showing a lot of positivity in this great city. Owner-occupiers are still very strong across most sectors and we are seeing great interest from out of town investors, Mr Fitzgerald said.

09.01.2022 Cooinda House received a Commendation for Residential Architecture at last nights State Awards. We are extremely proud to be recognised among a very strong field of entries. 02.01.2022 MEET THE TEAM - TESS GRACE Tess is an architectural graduate who studied in Brisbane, and moved back to Townsville after finishing her studies to enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle. Tess is currently studying to sit the Architectural Practice Examination, and if successful, hopes to register as an architect in the coming months. Juggling study and work with a little one can be tricky at times, but she loves sharing stories of her work with her son Ollie, who is particularly... fascinated with concrete mixers. Tess is looking forward to travelling again soon, so that she can tick off a few more of her buildings and cities from her bucket list. Some of her favourites she's managed to visit so far include La Sagrada Familia in Spain, Tokyo's Nagakin Capsule Tower and the Colosseum in Rome. In the meantime she enjoys cooking for her family and friends in her recently renovated home.

02.01.2022 MEET THE TEAM: Nicola (Skippy) Inskip. Check out some of her favourite photos Nicola re-joined the team at Counterpoint at the start of 2020. She previously worked at Outcrop/Counterpoint back in 2017, before returning to her home town in Melbourne to complete her Master of Architecture degree. Graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2018, she has since worked in Melbourne and Canberra on a diverse range of projects including commercial, residential, education, and... hospitality. She couldn’t stay away for long though before heading back up north. Outside of work, you'll find Nicola experimenting with new interest or planning last minute road trips. She enjoys photography, pilates and, most recently, ceramics (who needs a new mug?). She’s also a fan of podcasts, her top recommendations include @gettingcurious @crimejunkie and @ologies . Also - meet Finn!
