25.01.2022 New seasons seeds are coming along nicely. Amongst some of my favorite herbs are those that have fragrance, so important for our senses and reminiscences. I particularly love the Dianthus family, carnations and clove pinks. New this year is another of the Chabaud range of fragrant carnations is 'benigna' a beautiful bicolor pink and white. This joins 'orange sherbet ' marie chabaud ' and ' la France ' all with a delicious sweet spicy clove fragrance and suitable for cutting. Also the largest range of clove pinks in S.A. mainly heirloom varieties that make great border plants. Also coming this year is the very rare Dianthus 'pine leaf' with its unusual flowerhead. So keep an eye out for all these coming in Spring and like the fb page to hear about new seasons herbs and veggies.

20.01.2022 The caper butterflies have found their favourite plants to lay their eggs and continue the cycle. The adults enjoyed the nectar from a range of plants including natives but only use the caper bush and others in the Capparis family to lay eggs. While the leaves of bushes can get chewed back, it doesn't take long for new leaves to appear once the caterpillars hatch and move off. I will have 2 varieties of capers available for planting in Spring. Great for hot well drained areas. Interested? Come and have a chat!

18.01.2022 Beautiful fresh herbs, vegie seedlings and edible flowers all grown in the fresh air ready to plant in the garden or pots. Many uncommon varieties. Available direct at the nursery or this week's Adelaide hills Farmers market.

18.01.2022 Thanks everyone for checking out my fb page, now over 600 likes! Woohoo! So please keep sharing...... This week's frosty weather is really slowing growth down while the shelves are looking decidedly empty in the nursery. I'm keeping busy with dividing and re potting perennial herbs, something you can do in your own garden. This is something that does need doing every 2-3 years to maintain vigour, especially in spreading plants like yarrow, mints, origanums and others like chives, catmints, etc. Keep up foliar feeds with a good seaweed extract like #SeaGold on all leafy herbs and vegies. Nursery open tomorrow and Sunday.

17.01.2022 Just a week away to the official start of Spring. Last week's rain was welcome and now another of spring like weather to keep the garden moving along. However the frosty mornings mean the ground temperatures will keep new plantings from putting on growth just yet. Another liquid feed with a seaweed tonic on all pots and beds will serve well for the coming season. Look out for Seagold fertilizers in stores. Lots of tomato plants appearing, but don't be tempted to plant out y...et in frost zones, these can be potted on and kept in a warm, sheltered position. For others, a protective sleeve can keep some warmth around plants and removed as plants really take off. I love the early spring flowers of the Primulas. Many English people have fond memories of these beauties, P. veris (Cowslips) and Primrose ( P. vulgaris). Available for a short time in the nursery. See more

17.01.2022 Nursery is open Today till 3.30 Lovely day to get in the garden.

17.01.2022 The herbs and others were well pleased with the 11mls of rain overnight, especially considering I'm currently not able to access water due to an electrical issue!. Nursery open today 10- 4pm. Great opportunity to plant!

15.01.2022 Nursery open today through to Friday and also Sunday. Many herbs and veggies starting to get back on the shelves and some interesting perennials. Look out for perennial coriander, wild yam, black pepper vines, yacon, rosella, lobelia syphlitica, white sage, jasmine sambac, elderberry and many more.

15.01.2022 What's new this week... I love celery but can't be bothered growing it with its higher water needs, but there are a couple of easier growing leafy herbs that can be used with the same flavour. Celery herb and Chinese celery grow well at this time of year, while par-cel has the same growth habit as Italian parsley with a great celery taste and still grows well in the cooler months. Lots of leafy greens with more bitter tastes that are good for health including endive, radicchio, rocket. Lots of poppies coming on now, tall peony poppies, 'ladybird' and Californian and still to come Shirley and Flanders poppies. Come and see me at the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market this Saturday .

15.01.2022 The bulk of this year's garlic crop is in the ground. However I do have some special ones left over that I don't have room for. This is a late, excellent keeping creole variety. Great flavour. Normally $10 for 2 bulbs, these are a little smaller, still with good size cloves Approx. 8 per bulb. $5 for 4 bulbs. Available now from the nursery or this week's Adelaide hills Farmers market. Limited quantities.

14.01.2022 With early lifting of some covid safe restrictions the nursery will be open this Sunday 10 -4pm. 02.01.2022 Another weekend of wintery weather ahead. So you won't find me at the Adelaide hills Farmers market tomorrow as I need to start catching up on some long overdue cleaning up!!! I'm excited that finally my new signage is going up too, making it easier to see opening times, etc.

02.01.2022 It's always lovely to have plants that flower in the cooler months and have the added bonus of fragrant flowers. I particularly love the Mahonia. Tough shrubs ideal for partly shaded positions with scented yellow flowers and autumn colour in their leaves. Mahonia aquifolium is used medicinally with digestive stimulant , antimicrobial, anti-inflammitory properties and is an immune-booster. The bark yields a yellow green dye, and the plant produces edible berries. The other Mahonia is a large shrub that has been growing in my parents garden for over 50 years and I have propogated from, with delightful scented flowers. Have one of each available currently for $35 per plant in large pots.

01.01.2022 Looks like a bumper crop of garlic this year. How's yours going? New to growing it and not sure when to harvest? Usually as the lower leaves start to brown off, carefully dig down beside a bulb and feel for the separation of the cloves. Hard neck varieties can be a little easier as they produce an elongated stem that curls over at the top and is known as a scape. Feel free to visit the nursery to get more hands on information. Garlic sales from mid December.

01.01.2022 The much needed rain was a godsend for many reasons, not only to control the latest bushfires but to really boost the late planted vegies. These tomatoes were planted on the 29th Dec and have gone from the first photo to the next in less than a month. Good soil preparation makes a huge difference, with no sign of setback with temperatures nudging 44* the other day and no covering, in fact they put growth on. The wicking bed sucked a lot of water too, but again no covers and very full plantings. Nursery open as usual. Come and see what's in!

01.01.2022 It's been a bee-utiful week to be in the garden. I've been as busy as a bee preparing stock for the annual herb day market this Sunday. The nursery is open till Friday or catch me at the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market on Saturday. PLEASE NOTE...The nursery will be closed this Sunday while I'm attending this event.
