25.01.2022 Today at forest school we focused on being friends of the forest and connecting with it. Firstly we grounded with the earth and forest through Yoga. The children sat on the logs and then ground their feet into the dirt, feeling, listening and smelling the earth. We then stood and completed three yoga poses, the tree, the warrior and the mountain pose. Synched with our breath these poses bring oxygen and phytoncides relieving our bodies from pain or stress. We sat again on the... logs and opened up our senses beginning by looking up in the sky and talking about what we could see? Being emerged in this quiet place we closed our eyes and took a few deep breathes until we felt grounded. I asked the children to become aware of their environment by focusing on one sense each, hearing, taste, smell and touch. The children each gave their answers birds, berries, wind and the log. We went over each sense so everyone could contribute through their experiences. This helps the children to be present in the moment noticing textures, quality of air, notice different aromas, taste the air in their mouths, notice the warm and coolness of the sun and shade. The children then closed their eyes and reached up to the sky spreading their fingers allowing the air to flow between their finger tips. This helped them to be in tune to gravity and feel it pulling them to the earth as they then relaxed. I then asked them to open their eyes slowly and notice all around them. We then made friends with a tree, by going over and gazing firstly at it as we surrounded it facing in. We then leant again the tree and closed our eyes, touching and hugging. what knowledge does it share, how does it feel?, strong and resilient. The children breathed in and out exchanging oxygen and energies with the tree. Lastly as a nature therapy art experience the children created a pattern as part of our challenge #everysevendays2020. A tree branch had fallen with seed pods so we used these plus leaves and sticks to create lines of pods with symmetrical leaves and sticks found on the forest floor. This exercise helps the children to feel more connected to nature and feel more grounded and understand what they emotionally need at that moment. They were mindful of respecting the environment but still got to choose what to use in the pattern. Doing this experience last was because before making art the children had already invited mindfulness into their bodies. Forest School is a wonderful sanctuary where children feel nurtured, connect with nature, fill our souls and become more active and resourceful. See more

09.01.2022 Another wonderful day at Forest School...we began with some meditation to get us grounded. We then went on a sensory nature hunt finding different leaves, sticks, seed pods and flowers. How did they smell? some where dry some fresh, we squished them to enhance the smell. The childrens answers were...like honey, insects, the gutter and poo (lol) dirt, olive oil, lemon, strong and soft. We found a egg that had hatched recently, interesting tree roots, fungi and an umbrella lea...f and so much more. The children also got to do their favourite things like riding the balance bikes, ninja line and cargo net climbing. The children are also very excited that our bush hut is nearly finished. The exploration is endless and experiences vast...we shall never get bored. We made friends with the trees...what secrets do the hold what knowledge can they share? We can take them back with us when we leave the forest...and the forest shall remain in me. PS Jorja visited us while her dad worked on the bush hut! See more

09.01.2022 Yesterday we went to Forest school, we had the perfect location and mindset to immerse ourselves in the senses then and there. We laid down on the grass and looked up into the sky. I asked the children what do you see?, what do you hear? what can you feel? Liliana wrote down our answers and we have complied a poem from them. I hope you enjoy! I watch the sky... the clouds move slowly. The trees grow tall from the rain.. reaching up to the sky.... The birds fly high with wings out in the wind. I touch the ground... the grass feels spiky, I can feel the leaves fallen down. I can hear the birds in the tree.. one..three and four different sounds. The leaves rustling in the wind, light shines through where the caterpillars have chewed. I see clouds ..they look like a dinosaur, a sheep or fluffy cotton wool. The wind is getting stronger, I can see the storm cut down the tree. The breeze feels cold... It would be free. See more
