23.01.2022 Diwali is a festival celebrated by some of our families within the Astro room. It is a festival meaning festival of lights celebrated by religion of Hindu and Sikh, both having different reasoning behind why the celebration occurs but overall it is the celebration of triumphing good over evil. The festival starts Thursday 12th November and normally last 5 days with Saturday 14th being the main day of celebrations. To celebrate Diwali in the Astro room the children have made paper lanterns to hang around the room to represent the many lights and colours you would see during the festive celebration of Diwali. Educators spoke to the children about the festival the reasoning why lanterns and how they represent the lights we would see, and how it is celebrated by some of the other children’s families in the room.

22.01.2022 Tomorrow is R U OK Day which is about more than one question. It’s about checking in with someone more than once a year. It’s about being prepared when some...one says no, I’m not okay. It’s about looking for the signs that someone might not be okay. It’s about checking in after that initial conversation. And it’s about checking in with yourself and making sure you’re okay too. Let’s normalise these conversations 365 days of the year, not just 1. Learn what to say at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask #TheresMoreToSay #RUOKDay #RUOK
21.01.2022 Socially, we've been taught, as men, that it's not OK to have the feelings that we're having, and therefore we internalise them, we repress them. But to paraphrase Carl Jung: What you resist persists.
21.01.2022 Policy and Procedure Review Dear Families, Country Buddies team members are reviewing our current policies and procedures. ... The Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority requires all centre-based care services to openly invite families to assist with the policy review process. Each area of Country Buddies is covered by a policy and/or procedure and are imperative to the day to day operation of our centre. Everything from Child Safety to preparing bottles is covered! If any families would like to review a policy or procedure, put forward any feedback about any area of operation or make any suggestions on our practices, please send an email to [email protected]. This will then be incorporated into the updated policy if legally acceptable to do so. A particular policy can be directly emailed to you for review or our Policy Folder is accessible in our office (however, the policy folder must not leave the building). Collaborative partnerships with families and communities is very important to us at Country Buddies! We look forward to hearing from our wonderful families

18.01.2022 We would like to introduce each of you to our new art piece that has been a centre wide project, with every room contributing different art works that they have been working on over the last few weeks. We have created a tree that is inspired by Wassily Kandinsky. For Kandinsky, the circle, the most elementary of forms, had symbolic, cosmic significance. He wrote that "the circle is the synthesis of the greatest oppositions. It combines the concentric and the eccentric in a si...ngle form, and in balance", it reflects his continued belief that certain colours and shapes signify emotions that can be codified and combined into a whole, reflecting the harmony of the cosmos. The tree was painted by Sharee McLean, Jodie’s sister and will stay as a symbol of Country Buddies, the roots represent our foundation of our commitment to our children, families and community. The branches represent our growth centre wide into our community. See more

13.01.2022 Some great thoughts here for children big and small.
10.01.2022 27/8/20 This month in the pre kinder room we have been focusing on kindness and how we can be nice to our peers. We have been talking about being kind in our daily group times and the children have been explaining to the educator what they can do many saying sharing and using gentle hands. The children have started to display a great understanding of kindness by taking turns with the bikes, sharing the toys and waiting their turn on the swing at the big playground. We hav...e set up a tree of kindness in our room with the children’s handprints and in their words what they can do to be kind. Link to VEYLDF LO2 - Children are connected with and contribute to their world - Children become aware of fairness. LO3 - Children have a strong sense of wellbeing - Children become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing.
10.01.2022 You know what's better than saying "this food is good for you"? Tell them what foods do in their body! Why do I keep sharing this message? Because we keep selli...ng our kids short labeling foods and good/bad, healthy/unhealthy. Here are some examples of messages I like for different ages: For 2-3yo kids I usually break it down by color. Although it's not 100% accurate, it’s a good framework to get started. Red: gives you a strong heart Orange: helps you see in the dark Yellow: helps your body heal cuts Green: gives you super powers to fight off sickness Blue and Purple: Give you a strong brain White: gives you energy For 4s and 5s you can start being more specific - like carrots and sweet potatoes help you be able to see in the dark. Clementines help your skin heal cuts. Broccoli helps your night vision, your skin heal, AND your bones be strong. For 4s/5s and 6s you can introduce the idea that some foods do a lot of things in their bodies and some foods do a few things. For 6s and 7s you can introduce the concept of vitamins and minerals - tell them HOW carrots protect their night vision (via vitamin A). Learn about the body. For 8s and 9s - learn even more about different things in foods. And so on. All the while, model the way you want your kids to eat in your home and serve them the balanced diet you want them to eat. That's more powerful than anything you could ever tell them. If you need help getting your child to try new foods, my free child eating guide From Stress to Success - 4 Ways to Help Your Child Eat Better without Losing Your Mind is in my bio @kids.eat.in.color #kidseatincolor See more
09.01.2022 Here are some handy phrases you can use to praise children in ways that will build their confidence and help them to develop a growth mindset. Which will you start using? Are there any others you would add to this list? (Image via Big Life Journal)

07.01.2022 Over the past few weeks the Astro children have been working on their independence skills. We have incorporated rinsing off our bowls/cups from lunch as well as encouraging the children to wipe their faces after meal times. We provided warm soapy water and a sponge for the children to wipe their cups from lunch today, educators offering asssitance when it was needed or they asked for help. After they put their dishes into the tubs to be taken to the kitchen, they got a face washer to wipe their hands and face saying all clean when they were done. We provided assistance wiping their faces when it’s needed, and will provide mirrors so the children can see for themselves if their face is clean.
07.01.2022 Change and Neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity: the ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections, especially in response to learning, or experi...ence, or following injury. Making the decision to change the way you speak to yourself and others - and then practising that behaviour - builds new connections in your brain at the cellular level. Repeated use of the new synaptic connections 'installs' our chosen behaviour into our 'habit department' where it becomes our new normal. Knowing this is how it works, we can remember to be gentle with ourselves over the time it takes to make the changes. <3
07.01.2022 Last week in the Galaxy room we had our wonderful little Layla get up in front of all of the children and talk to them about her Celiac Disease. Layla explained to the children that she cannot have gluten and that if she does she gets a very sad and sick belly. She explained this to the children with her special celiac teddy that she has, which shows a pink happy belly and a brown sad belly. This was a very brave task for Layla to do for her friends. She told the children th...at this is why sometimes at meal times she can’t eat the same food as them, but when the meal doesn’t contain any gluten she is able to share the same meal as her friends. Layla did a wonderful job explaining this to all of her friends and since she got up and spoke to them she had many of the other children talking about it and explaining that we need to keep Layla safe, with all the children showing great compassion towards Layla. 07.01.2022 This week the Astro children have started to learn Auslan sign language. This started due to some of our parents have said their children know a few signs for basic language skills. We have started off with learning the alphabet and everyday communication such as more, finished, eat and drink. This is a great way of communication for children and educators to express what they might need/want especially for children who are not as verbal as of yet. This is the first week of p...ractising Auslan sign language and some of the children have already picked up some of the letters. Over the next few weeks once the children and educators become more confident we will incorporate basic songs we sing already with the children using the auslan sign language. VEYLDF- Children are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning. Children develop an ability to mirror, repeat and practise the actions of others.
06.01.2022 Today the Astro and a Nature Room Children had a very special lunch. They had nuggets and chips, due to the children’s interest of using the phones and ordering nuggets and chips over the last few weeks. Educator called up the fish and chip shop just like how the children have been doing on the phone during their play. They watched the educator drive off to go get the chips and nuggets and waited patiently for her to come back. The Astro and Nature children sat all together on the picnic rugs to enjoy their nuggets and chips. VEYLDF- Children are confident and involved learners. Children contribute to play experiences based off their own ideas.

05.01.2022 4/8/2030 This morning some of the Astro children explained to Jayde that they didn’t like how we have to wear mask, I took this opportunity to explain to the children need to wear mask to protect us from the germs when we are out. As this is going to be the new normal I suggested how about we make some mask for our babies to wear. We found some fabric and practise putting them on the babies, explaining we have to make sure they cover the babies nose and mouth. We hope to make some more for our babies to allow the children to become a bit more comfortable about everyone wearing mask. VEYLDF- Children are confident and involved learners. Children make connections between experiences and transfer knowledge from one setting to another.

04.01.2022 FACE COVERINGS Good Afternoon Families, As it stands today, all Victorians will be mandated to wear face coverings from Monday 3rd of August. This will apply to all persons entering Country Buddies.... In general, parents will be required to wear face coverings at drop off and pick up times. Children under the age of 12 are not required to wear a face covering. Face coverings should not be placed on children aged under two due to choking and strangulation risks. In Early Childhood Education and Care services, including kindergartens, it is not mandatory for teachers and educators to wear a face covering while working with children, but those who wish to do so, can. Country Buddies Educators are encouraged to keep their faces uncovered when in the class rooms to minimise stress for the children and keep communication free flowing. A person who has a medical condition including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on their face, a disability or a mental health condition is not required to wear a mask or face covering. Country Buddies are guided by and take direction from The Victorian Education Dept as it comes to hand. Country Buddies Management will provide more information on changes made by our governing departments as it arrives. Thank you for you cooperation at this time
