Raised where the fertile floodplains of the Riverina meet the Snowy Mountains in Wiradjuri Country William Crighton has quickly established himself as one of Australia’s foremost contemporary songsmiths.... Crighton’s critically-acclaimed debut William Crighton (2016) garnered a nomination at the 2017 AIR Awards, and drew the praise of Rolling Stone, who celebrated Crighton’s uniquely penetrating storytelling. Darkly majestic follow-up Empire (2018) was named album of the year by Hoodoo Gurus’ Dave Faulkner in the Saturday Paper, while Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst has sung the praises of Crighton’s deeply resonant, ineffably Australian vocal delivery. He has been selected to appear at the gamut of Australia’s premier music festivals, including Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk Festival, WOMAD, Woodford Folk Festival, and Dashville Skyline, along with major European fixtures from Denmark’s long-running Tønder Festival to the UK’s world-renowned Boomtown Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. 13.01.2022 Have you heard of Pickle Head Pickles? They are made in Brisbane from a small family-owned business. The Trident Fish & Grill sell the retail Jars for $16.50, or the customer can add them to any burger or loaded fries. A little about Picklehead Pickles: At six months of age, Mikey's Czech mum gave him a dill pickle as a teething rusk. With that single action, began an almost unholy, and obsessive love of dill pickles. ... After experiencing the amazing variety of pickles available in New York, Mike came home to Australia determined to make his own and make them like nothing else around. Through modifying an old family recipe, a few trial runs, a semi-drunken attempt at label art... Picklehead was born! There are five flavours; Dill Chips, New York Style Dill Pickle, Hot Patootie (Chilli), Bronx Garlic and Hellapeños. There are no bar codes, no preservatives, no added sugar or anything nasty, just the best local Australian market ingredients and a whole lotta love! Pictured is the lovely Iyla from The Trident Fish & Grill.

07.01.2022 Recovery & Resilience Grant Recipients On the 2nd of December, the Northern Rivers Community Foundation announced $236,000 in funding to help 35 local community organisations recover from recent crises and build resilience in the face of future disasters, through our Recovery and Resilience Grants Program. This year has been challenging without a doubt. It has also been incredibly heartening to see the outpouring of support for our local community organisations, not just l...ocally, but from interstate and abroad. Our small grants help to bridge gaps in Government funding and support their operations by funding essential and innovative projects and critical pieces of infrastructure, that will help communities across all seven local government areas of the Northern Rivers. A heartfelt thank you to all our donors and importantly to these incredible organisations who are doing the critical work on the ground. - John Callanan, Chair NRCF When the NRCF called on the collective generosity of our community to support those in need, the response was remarkable. Nearly one-third of all grants given through this program has come from the support of our local community of donors including donors to the Resilience and Regeneration Fund and those who have donated to the NRCF over many years, by contributing to one of our various Sub Funds. Significant funds have also been contributed by our major funding partners, The James Frizelle Charitable Foundation, Portland House Foundation, Yulgilbar Foundation and international fundraising body, Global Giving. The program has also been supported by long term partners, the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), who helped facilitate funding from private and public foundations. The NRCF continues to expand our reach right across the Northern Rivers. From Coaldale to Kyogle, Murwillumbah to Byron Bay, funding will help community groups on the ground, who are responding directly to community need. Nearly 60 community groups applied to this Grants Round. Of the 35 successful applicants, 22 of these organisations have never previously received funding from the NRCF. Each grant ranges in value from $816 to $10,000, with an average grant amount of $6,763. The areas of need are diverse. Projects span across Health & Wellbeing, Aged Services, Employment & Training, Arts and Culture, as well as Disaster Recovery, Preparedness & the Environment, with each project addressing a specific issue within each local community. From all of us here at the NRCF, thank you for being part of our vision - a compassionate, generous and equitable Northern Rivers community. You can view the full list of recipients at https://nrcf.org.au/grants/2021-grant-recipients/

04.01.2022 Australian singer-songwriters and fashion freaks... No Frills Twins with special guests feature on Thursday the 26th of November 2020 at 7:30pm. The twins were singing, songwriting and performing from the moment they could talk. From a young age we were using songwriting to explore and understand things in the world that seemed beyond our understanding or control, says Arna about their lyrics. Their carefree creativity and independence soon saw the pair self-releasing theat...rical pop songs paired with equally outlandish videos. Among them was the tongue-in-cheek, electro-pop YouTube hit, God Bless The Internet (2015) which has earned itself millions of views on YouTube and established the duo as respected songwriters. After independently paving their own success, in 2017 they signed to Island Records and made their mark with a series of dynamic singles that showed off their unique versatility and eclectic style. More recently, the duo performed for the streaming festival, Isol-Aid alongside fellow Australian artists Stella Donnelly, Angie McMahon and Julia Jacklin. 02.01.2022 Q & A with Kylie Paisley Kylie Paisley is a local illustrator creating beautiful, highly detailed greeting cards and prints. She lives in the Northern Rivers with her husband and two sons. Her talent is undoubtedly demonstrated in the ability to utilise Prismacolor pencils, creating stunning life-like art pieces. Your childhood and current family life? I grew up in the Northern Rivers and was extremely lucky as a young girl to have parents that loved to spend a lot of time... camping, exploring and being out in nature. I found school difficult and instead spent a lot of time drawing. At the age of 15, I left school to start work as a veterinary nurse and still work at that same veterinary clinic today. I live in the local area with my husband and our two young boys. Once my boys were old enough, and I could find a little time to focus on what I really love, I started to draw again. I guess the drawings are a vision of my own personal, realistic reconstruction. The best part of your job? Being able to share my love of drawing with the world, along with inspiring others, is the best part. Drawing brings me great joy, and I hope that my art can help to remind us all to fall in love with the world every day. Where do your ideas begin for each piece? I often see something that I just love; then I gather many photographs and where possible have a physical subject such as botanicals so I can try to match the correct colours. When starting a drawing, it has to feel right, never rushed, so I can enjoy the moment. What artistic tool is essential to you? I love to use 425gsm HP 100% cotton paper. It's important to have a strong pencil sharpener as I am forever sharpening pencils, a firm rubber and never forget a good cup of coffee! Any advice for our readers Don't be afraid to start all over again if you're not happy with how the drawing is progressing; I often redo drawings just so that I can be proud to share my work. Never make it a job or put too much pressure on yourself as your mood will always come through the drawing just let it come naturally. Experiment! Just do what feels right for you. I feel like my technique is forever changing with each drawing.
