What’s afoot? Were you here when Mitchell came? And further back? Do you think it’s a shame The Wakka Wakka don’t fish here Their kids snatching yabbies, squealing with fear Bunyips lurking in the deep Waiting for a kid to keep As they dive for yugaries on the bar. Does it make you sad? But we’ve come so far! You’ve watched the water lose its blue The gallery forest lose its hue As houses take the place of trees. But hey! birds still shoot the evening breeze ! Possums still delight to roam In the ceilings of our homes. Cockies screech, and magpies squawk People bring their dogs to walk. Fish still jump, and turtles hide Lizards bake, and peewees glide People sit, and fish, and chat. Young Sebastian leaves his hat. Eucalypts and wattles flower Bower birds create their bowers. Flying foxes make a din And poo on all our rooves of tin. Hey old timer - stay; fear not We interlopers love this spot. As surely as the earth revolves Time goes on, and things evolve.
