14.01.2022 The 28th October 1939 marked the 21st anniversary of independence for Czechoslovakia. This occurred at the outset of WW2, and to fight the German invaders, an anti-Nazi demonstration was organised. During this event, 19-year-old university student Jan Opletal was killed as the situation turned violent. There was another demonstration almost a month later at Opletals funeral, prompting Nazi forces to close all universities. Over 1200 Czechoslovakian students were sent to concentration camps, nine were executed.
