21.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: MARCH 25 As of 1pm today the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services confirmed 8 COVID-19 cases in Gippsland: Baw Baw (2), Latrobe (2), Bass Coast (1) ... East Gippsland (1), South Gippsland (1), Wellington (1) The total number of positive cases in Victoria is now 466, with 47 in regional areas From midnight tonight all elective surgery other than category 1 and urgent category 2 cases will be suspended in both public and private hospitals. The Federal Government has extended its shutdown of businesses. The following must close from midnight tonight: auctions and open house inspections, personal services like beauty therapy, tanning, massage and tattoo parlors, outdoor and indoor markets (food markets can stay open at the discretion of state govts), amusement parks and arcades, play centres, galleries, museums, libraries, swimming pools. The broader message from the Federal Government and Victorian Government now is that everyone should stay at home and limit contact with other people as much as possible. Work from home if you can, dont have people over for drinks or dinner, and only leave the house for essentials, like food shopping, getting medication or doing exercise. All schools in Victoria are closed ahead of the school holidays. The Victorian Government hasnt decided if schools will re-open after the holidays. Wonthaggi Hospital - Bass Coast Health is the official Coronavirus screening centre in Gippsland. 02.01.2022 Premier Dan Andrews press release - a recap if you missed it. We are not yet going to full stage one of reopening. Instead Victoria will move to stage one in a staggered format. First public movement, then schools and businesses. ... As of midnight tomorrow (Tuesday 12th) night and until the 31st May - up to five visitors (family and friends) are allowed in your home. They are to be visitors not stay overnight for eg. - up to 10 people may participate in outdoor activities together such as fishing, golf, boating, sports training etc. You should follow hygiene precautions, observe distancing and act carefully to limit contact. - schools will return before the end of term in a staged format that will be released soon. Time will be given to provide plenty of notice to parents and for educators - service businesses, for example a barber, should be taking contact details of customers and clients. If you were to be visited for a social distance check and did not have customer details, you could be fined. Things that will NOT change before the end of May - if you can work from home you must still work from home - cafs, restaurants and other closed industries will remain closed or as already trading during this public trial phase. - all other measures already in place including social distancing, 4sqm per person, regional travel etc will stay in place - Large scale testing will continue until the end of year and the results will assist in forming the next steps to reopening. Testing of sewerage will continue to identify regional outbreaks If Victorians do not follow the rules and or outbreaks and numbers begin to rise we will go back to lockdown, potentially even more restrictive. Further updates will come through the week to clarify points and release new measures around school etc.
