19.01.2022 C Grade vs Nannup This week saw Cowaramup’s C grade side tackle the longest road trip in the BMRCA, travelling to Nannup to take on the Tigers. Batting first, Cowaramup lost a couple of quick wickets to the metronome Troy ‘Rat’ Rasmussen. Luke Fitzgerald (25) joined President Kyle Coates (24) at the crease, and both players took it upon themselves to steady the ship, placing a very high value on their wickets leaving the bulls at 2/43 at drinks. Reed Coates (36) is not from t...his school of thought however, who’s turbocharged innings featuring two massive sixes helping Cowaramup to the competitive total of 9/155 from their 40 overs. Good early spells from Bird Cook (2/13 from 8 overs) and Darrell Bradshaw (0/22 from 8 overs) went unrewarded, the first wicket finally arrived via a good throw from Reed Coates and runout, Bird Cook finally got a deserved wicket LBW. Englishman Austin Epson (2/29 from 8 overs) bowled a useful and at times fiery spell, picking 2 wickets, another run out via Bill Cawley had the home side 5/83 at drinks. Luke Fitzgerald failed to hit the heights of his spell last week, and bowled an assortment of full tosses and double bouncers but did pick up the wicket of the Rat with a full bunger. A brilliant diving catch from Bruce Biddle who clutched it down low then regathered in midair as the ball popped out, was a highlight. Nannup were eventually dismissed for 129 in the 38th over giving Cowaramup their first victory of the season. Final scores Cowaramup 9/155 defeated Nannup 10/129.

04.01.2022 A grade vs Dunsborough This week saw Cowaramup’s A grade side travel north to take on Dunsborough in a crucial clash with both teams battling for forth place on the ladder. The inclusion of Fraser Oates fresh from a stint playing in England, had the bulls at full strength for the first time this season. Heavy rain on Wednesday night meant the wicket would have some life in it, but skipper Ben Shepherd backed in his batting lineup to post a competitive score and sent Dunsborou...gh into the field. However Dunsborough’s opening bowler Michael Walker (3/28 from 10 overs) made the most of the early seam movement with three early wickets. At 4/46 a partnership was required, which Kavi De Silva and Richard Bramston (17) delivered putting on 80 runs for the 5th wicket. Another solid partnership between De Silva and Mikey Hibberd (17) pushed Cowaramups total beyond the 200 mark for the first time this season. But the highlight of the innings was Kavi De Silvas innings of 115, scoring over half of the Bulls runs. The slow outfield meant De Silva had to adapt from his normal power hitting game, instead working the gaps and running many two’s and three’s, in fact only 40 runs of De Silvas innings came in boundaries. Dunsborough eventually dismissed Cowaramup in the 50th over for 211 runs. Jack Omodei (2/34 from 9.1 overs) and Nick Ritchie (2/36 from 5 overs) were the other main wicket takers. Cowaramups bowling effort got off to the perfect start removing both openers cheaply. An 80 run partnership between Aaron Mott (30) and Matt Jamieson (81) tilted the balance back in Dunsboroughs favour. Fraser Oates (3/20 from 9 overs) then inspired a mini comeback by the Bulls, taking three quick wickets, followed by a direct hit run out by specialist fielder Aaron Holben, left Dunsborough at 6/110. Nathan Whitney (37) joined Jamieson at the crease, upping the run rate with a 61 run partnership. The game turned again when Jamieson and Whitney where removed in consecutive overs leaving Dunsborough still needing 24 runs to win with only 2 wickets in hand. Matt Lepidi and Lachie Milton managed to make the required runs, helped by a number of inside edges past the keeper, knocking off the Bull’s total in the 47th over. Kavi De Silva capped off a fine all round game taking 2/30 Final scores Dunsborough 8/212 defeated Cowaramup 10/211.
