24.01.2022 On a cold and windy morning the temptation could be to sit in the sun warming up like a reptile. But, I would have missed the #brolga flying closely past and landing only metres away. The male immediately started a dance, wings outstretched, stick tossing. Then off feeding in the luscious waters #cowardspringswetland #outbacksouthaustralia #oodnadattatrack #lifeinthewilds
24.01.2022 We're all open for business. Roads are great, a section of the Oodna Track is graded and there's no-one travelling further than the Flinders Ranges it seems! So if you're looking for a quiet holiday away from others - come visit. Sorry to our interstate people who would love to be here, you Vics and NSW love SA I know. Stay safe.
24.01.2022 Coward Springs! The best time of year to visit us is during our season - late March to late October. At this time of year the spa will be a deliciously refreshing respite from the heat but there will also be flies and mozzies to share it with you.
22.01.2022 We had 16mm over 3 days and everything looks crisp and sparkling. The roads are open to 4 x 4 (with some cautions) and they are drying out nicely in the wind that came with the rain. So head our way, temps in the low 20s in the coming days.
21.01.2022 That red line from Marree through Coward Springs to William Creek (road closed to all vehicles) is because one section of road was washed out in a thunderstorm a week ago. So to all of our valued NSW travellers - we're sorry! We would love to have you here now that the border is open BUT until those graders get out our campground is empty of campers. HOWEVER you can still get to William Creek AND to Oodnadatta via Coober Pedy or Marla and they would love to see you. It's been a quiet season for all of us.
21.01.2022 We took a drive this morning to see what the thunderstorms of three days ago have brought. Water soaking into the land (not seen for years like this); water flowing in the Margaret Creek (but not the banker we expected); several species of small fish trying to get upstream and a bone dry road orher than in the odd dip. #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia #lifeinthewilds #cowardsprings #southaustralia #outbackcamping Waiting for the plants to grow and flower. Waiting for the road to open - closed we think because a creek closer to Marree has flooded over the road.
16.01.2022 Our pair of gentle galahs at the shower block are nesting again this year. The female (pink eye) is mostly sitting atop her hollow log while the male (black eye) sharpens his beak on the post and watches the action. They rarely squark at campers and sit still for a photograph, probably curious of our antics. #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbackcamping #outbacksouthaustralia #galahsnesting #lifeinthewilds
15.01.2022 23mm at Coward Springs, 93mm at Marree (several houses flooded), less further north. Woohoo the country will love it. All night storms with continuous light show flashing through the clouds. We'll let you know if the creeks flood out because that would close the road for a while!
12.01.2022 We're open for business - again - see you soon!
11.01.2022 Business is not so good for us on the Oodnadatta Track but there is an upside to having no campers for a week - we have the spa all to ourselves #cowardsprings #outbackcamping #southaustralia #oodnadattatrack closed but opens we hope on Monday
11.01.2022 Still waiting but the mamma at the base of these clouds is promising #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia @wen_haylock @cloud.appreciation.society
10.01.2022 Travelling our way in the next few days? We'd LOVE to see you - but with rain forecast for late Thursday and Friday (Oh lucky us) - you might want to tweak your plans and either make sure you're on the bitumen for Thursday night or somewhere that you don't mind staying for a few days. The roads may close and there will be Mud! All good fun as long as you're where you want to be.
