25.01.2022 Were all open for business. Roads are great, a section of the Oodna Track is graded and theres no-one travelling further than the Flinders Ranges it seems! So if youre looking for a quiet holiday away from others - come visit. Sorry to our interstate people who would love to be here, you Vics and NSW love SA I know. Stay safe.

25.01.2022 Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it. Great photos (and BTW I cant see any flies in the photos!!!)

25.01.2022 We are sorry to say that we are not opening for our 2020 season and will be closed to camping until who knows when. I know you have all been expecting us to say this because it is in compliance with the Government directive for closure of all non-essential businesses. I am sure you can all adapt to the dramatic change that Covid19 has brought to our lives. You could - have a holiday at home! Relive your past travel experiences; plan your next holiday; learn something new (li...ke how to grow a few greens to keep you going between shopping forays); look at the sky; read something different (try Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne if you havent already). Above all - STAY HOME - and remember to laugh every day. See you in 2021!

25.01.2022 Great photo thanks @500milesofmusic

24.01.2022 We are still searching for staff to build our team ready for our peak season. All welcome to apply. Please share

24.01.2022 We have reached the end of our season at Coward Springs in Outback South Australia. This year the temperatures have already soared into the high 30s and low 40s. Unusual, yes, way hotter than ever. Temperatures will consistently be high over the coming 4 or 5 months and along with that so too the numbers of pesky flies, mozzies and midgees. If youre travelling the Outback over the coming months be well prepared, not only for the heat and flies but be self-sufficient with water - we have NO rainwater since we have had less than 80mm in the last 3 years. (Thats why everything is dead and wind means a dust storm.) Make sure your vehicle is in top condition - ****there will be less people on the roads to help you out if you get into strife****. There will be someone at William Creek but our summer manager doesnt live not on site.

24.01.2022 We are aiming to open the Campground in late May to our South Australian campers. Please note however that we will NOT be open to Day Visitors this season due to the continuing uncertainty around Covid19 and easing of restrictions. We will continue to maintain the high standard of cleanliness that you have all come to expect. However we will be relying on YOU to - maintain social distancing and personal hygiene... - ensure you are self-sufficient and travel with personal hygiene products - respect and adhere to any management requests related to Covid19 compliance needs. 24.01.2022 We had 16mm over 3 days and everything looks crisp and sparkling. The roads are open to 4 x 4 (with some cautions) and they are drying out nicely in the wind that came with the rain. So head our way, temps in the low 20s in the coming days.

23.01.2022 Only in the Outback. When the sun sets, turn 180 degrees for the softest blend of colour. Never to be caught in camera. #cowardsprings #outbackcamping #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia #lifeinthewilds

23.01.2022 Great photo thanks Kylie

23.01.2022 Short notice, but if youre in our area come to William Creek tonight. Were going!

22.01.2022 In light of the COVID-19 threat, we have made the difficult decision to close our campground until further notice. We are in a prime spot to self isolate and do... our bit to #flattenthecurve, and feel that this is our best chance of doing that effectively. Apologies to anyone hoping to travel through. Stay safe, and look forward to seeing you all when this is all over. See more

22.01.2022 Say goodbye to the old black #holdenute. Off to a new life #copley. If you visit Copley Bush Bakery or Caravan Park ask Jimmy or Casey how she goes. #cowardsprings #lifeinthewilds #outbacksouthaustralia #oodnadattatrack #travelthedirt

22.01.2022 Take note summer travellers in the Outback. I would also suggest checking the weather forecast before you come our way as temps can be pretty extreme - and therefor dangerous to the unprepared.

21.01.2022 Our first roll-over for the season. Noone hurt thankfully just a rethink for Kyle as he was soaking his aches in the spa this morning. No longer heading off on an outback adventure but back to work! Not so bad given thats at Copley Bush Bakery and Quandong Cafe. #cowardsprings #outbacksouthaustralia #drivetotheconditions #drivesafe #lifeinthewilds

20.01.2022 Coward Springs! The best time of year to visit us is during our season - late March to late October. At this time of year the spa will be a deliciously refreshing respite from the heat but there will also be flies and mozzies to share it with you.

20.01.2022 Our pair of gentle galahs at the shower block are nesting again this year. The female (pink eye) is mostly sitting atop her hollow log while the male (black eye) sharpens his beak on the post and watches the action. They rarely squark at campers and sit still for a photograph, probably curious of our antics. #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbackcamping #outbacksouthaustralia #galahsnesting #lifeinthewilds

20.01.2022 Travelling our way in the next few days? We'd LOVE to see you - but with rain forecast for late Thursday and Friday (Oh lucky us) - you might want to tweak your plans and either make sure you're on the bitumen for Thursday night or somewhere that you don't mind staying for a few days. The roads may close and there will be Mud! All good fun as long as you're where you want to be.

19.01.2022 23mm at Coward Springs, 93mm at Marree (several houses flooded), less further north. Woohoo the country will love it. All night storms with continuous light show flashing through the clouds. We'll let you know if the creeks flood out because that would close the road for a while!

18.01.2022 Outback Road Warnings Sunday 14 February 2021 @ 4.55 PM

18.01.2022 I LOVE this comment from our visitors book - two years ago. What a story teller, thanks Sophie.

17.01.2022 Business is not so good for us on the Oodnadatta Track but there is an upside to having no campers for a week - we have the spa all to ourselves #cowardsprings #outbackcamping #southaustralia #oodnadattatrack closed but opens we hope on Monday

17.01.2022 12.2mm and more coming today. Roads closed, stay updated by checking www.dpti.sa.gov.au/OutbackRoads #cowardsprings #outbacksouthaustralia #oodnadattatrack #birdsvilletrack #tourismsa #rainatlast

16.01.2022 We're all open for business. Roads are great, a section of the Oodna Track is graded and there's no-one travelling further than the Flinders Ranges it seems! So if you're looking for a quiet holiday away from others - come visit. Sorry to our interstate people who would love to be here, you Vics and NSW love SA I know. Stay safe.

16.01.2022 2021 is here! We have finally made it to Coward springs! Thanks to Geg and Prue for assisting us so much in the changeover. They have put in an amazing amount of work over 30yrs to turn Coward Springs into the special place that it is! Our aim is to continue to run and maintain the property with similar values and high standards! Whether you are a new face or a regular visitor we look forward to seeing you! Scott Barb Kasi and Rusty!

15.01.2022 Coward Springs on the horizon. Our first explorers would have seen vibrant bush surrounding the mound springs. But salt crystals have their own beauty. #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #salt #outbacksouthaustralia

15.01.2022 We are open for business and yes it is still quiet. I posted earlier that we would be closed to day visitors this season. However due to the low numbers of people travelling we dont need to limit numbers at this stage. So - until traveller numbers increase we are open to both campers and day visitors (the latter between 10am and 4pm only). See you soon.

13.01.2022 RIP our beautiful friend Jack Dunstan (1947 - 2020). Many adventures and projects shared, now gone too soon.

12.01.2022 Wishing you all the best for the Christmas and New Year season. Stay cool and safe and lets hope 2020 brings plenty of rain.

11.01.2022 We're open for business - again - see you soon!

09.01.2022 With barely a traveller on the road we took ourselves off to #williamcreek for lunch at #williamcreekhotel (delicious chips on the side). The town has a welcoming feel because of the flourishing well nurtured trees planted years ago. Trevor gave us a tour of the #wrightsair fleet, all planes sadly sitting idle. Last year you would have been lucky to get a flight unless booked weeks ahead. Come stay with us at Coward Springs (no booking needed) then up to William Creek for lunch and a flight. So pack up the kids and head north. Quiet, warm weather, blue skies. #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia #southaustralia #outbackcamping

09.01.2022 Coward Springs dunnies get a treat #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia Best dunnies in the Outback?

08.01.2022 Planted only a year ago these precious white-trunked Coolabahs and Prickly Acacias have boomed. Already theyve made our newish campsite feel welcoming. Red gums in the background are 25 years old #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia #lifeinthewilds #coolabah #treesmakeoxygen #treesareshelter

07.01.2022 One of my fave campsites #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack Sheltered by the trees but facing out to the immense landscape. And the rising sun or rising moon moon depending on your preferred time of day #outbacksouthaustralia #outbackcamping Thanks Ro Anna

07.01.2022 We took a drive this morning to see what the thunderstorms of three days ago have brought. Water soaking into the land (not seen for years like this); water flowing in the Margaret Creek (but not the banker we expected); several species of small fish trying to get upstream and a bone dry road orher than in the odd dip. #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia #lifeinthewilds #cowardsprings #southaustralia #outbackcamping Waiting for the plants to grow and flower. Waiting for the road to open - closed we think because a creek closer to Marree has flooded over the road.

06.01.2022 We are aiming to open the Campground in the next week (early June) to our South Australian campers. 06.01.2022 https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea Check out this website regularly for the current status on Covid 19, government response and how to protect yourselves and those around you. We will be making a decision on April 1st as to whether or not we open for our 2020 season. Our decision will be based on the need to protect ourselves and our staff as well a prediction as to when (not if) unnecessary travel is advised against and we go into lockdown - as is happening all over the globe. Meanwhile stay safe - be responsible for your personal health and hygiene as well as that of the community around you. If you are travelling please be aware that many of our outback towns and communities have a large percentage of elderly people who are in the high risk category due to pre-existing health issues.

05.01.2022 Yes we are open and yes it is SO quiet its as though the roads are shut. Its a stark contrast to last year when we were so busy that for weeks on end we were full to the brim by 4pm. So come on all you South Aussies, explore your own backyard!

05.01.2022 That red line from Marree through Coward Springs to William Creek (road closed to all vehicles) is because one section of road was washed out in a thunderstorm a week ago. So to all of our valued NSW travellers - we're sorry! We would love to have you here now that the border is open BUT until those graders get out our campground is empty of campers. HOWEVER you can still get to William Creek AND to Oodnadatta via Coober Pedy or Marla and they would love to see you. It's been a quiet season for all of us.

04.01.2022 Kangaroo Island, our summer home. If we have been slow to respond to messages it is because we have been a little distracted. Evacuated twice but lucky enough to both times return to our property intact - unlike so many others - 48% of the Island burnt. The good news? Bucket loads of rain here on Kangaroo Island - 23mm at our place and 60mm elsewhere. AND around Coward Springs? Marree I hear had about 28mm, William Creek 24mm and the nearby station, Stuarts Creek, 40mm. Thats about half the total rain weve had in the last 4 years. SO this season (which starts in March) the outback will hopefully look green with summer grasses, plants and shrubs that respond quickly to rain. A welcome change from previous years. Just another downpour please to keep them going!

04.01.2022 Given the uncertainty around Covid 19 we have decided to delay the start of our season. The plan had been to arrive this coming week to get everything ship shape for the 2020 season and the start of the school holidays. Instead we will see what the next 7 - 14 days brings in terms of possible restrictions to unnecessary travel etc. Coward Springs IS open all-year-round but in our off-season there is no manager on site, the Museum is closed and there is a total fire ban. You will need to be self-sufficient and that includes with drinking water. While there is bore water available it is not recommended for drinking. We will keep you posted and meanwhile please heed advice given, particularly around social distancing and maintaining scrupulous personal hygiene.

04.01.2022 I think this says it perfectly. Theres always next year - come see us then. Outback South Australia isnt mentioned in this article BUT I can assure you we are all of the same mind. Many in our Outback communities are elderly with health conditions that reflect a lifetime of living remote and on low incomes. Put yourself in our shoes - if Covid 19 reached our region then our remoteness, the very thing you come for, would be an added HUGE risk for everyone.... So plan your holiday for next year and visit your LOCAL parks for your dose of wildness and contemplation. See more

04.01.2022 Its all about the detail #outbacksouthaustralia #cowardsprings And! about resilience, expansiveness and tenacity. After three years with little rain these little knobs of Frankenia still manage to not only survive but flower #lifeinthewilds #oodnadattatrack Sights like this remind me why I live here.

03.01.2022 Last night #praxisartspace the opening of our exhibition Island to Outback. What a fabulous gallery for an exhibition! The space absorbed our works and reflected the vastness of outback landscape. Twelve artists, 12 interpretations and responses to the land. Please visit over the few next weeks if youre in Adelaide. #cowardsprings #outbacksouthaustralia #oodnadattatrack #lifeinthewilds These profiles are - me - at Coward Springs in the wetland - and - forever glancing to the expansive skies.

03.01.2022 I cant wait to see this exhibition, the outcome of our artistic explorations following an 8-day artist camp in 2018 at Coward Springs and curated by expert Eleanor. This is our outback home - interpreted by 12 artists from Kangaroo Island, all of whom have strong connections with Coward Springs and our part of Outback South Australia. Please come to the opening and hear Reg weave a story for us in his opening speech.

01.01.2022 On a cold and windy morning the temptation could be to sit in the sun warming up like a reptile. But, I would have missed the #brolga flying closely past and landing only metres away. The male immediately started a dance, wings outstretched, stick tossing. Then off feeding in the luscious waters #cowardspringswetland #outbacksouthaustralia #oodnadattatrack #lifeinthewilds

01.01.2022 Still waiting but the mamma at the base of these clouds is promising #cowardsprings #oodnadattatrack #outbacksouthaustralia @wen_haylock @cloud.appreciation.society
