25.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** -- Do you ever have trouble getting your point across to people? Do you struggle to communicate with your loved ones? - Did you know that most face-to-face communication is expressed and interpreted non-verbally?... -- The more bodily gestures and facial expressions that you use, the easier it is for people to understand you. - Its no secret that embodied practices like yoga, martial arts and dance have carry-on effects into our everyday lives, and this is one of the many reasons. -- The more we can learn to inhabit, understand and utilise our bodies, the more able we are to express our thoughts, ideas and emotions. - There is so much value to be found in entertaining and developing ourselves through reading, writing and watching; but the body itself is an amazing teacher. -- In these strange and uncertain times, its so important to maintain the relationship with your body. It is the key to expressing yourself and maintaining all of your other relationships. - Move well, move often, keep communicating. -- You can access all of our online classes for free or by donation this week through our website here: https://www.cowragarageyoga.com/classes - Monday: 5:30-6:45pm Beginners Yoga with Ken - Tuesday: 5:30-7pm Level 1 Strength and Flow with Eric -- Wednesday: 5:30-6:45pm Beginners Yoga with Eric 7-30pm Meditation Group (Eric) - Thursday: 5:30-7pm Level 2 Power Yoga with Ken -- Friday: 5:30-7pmpm Restorative Yoga with Eric - #onlineyoga #expressyourself #yogaresilience #breathingisawesome See more

24.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you tuning in or pushing through? Somehow in our culture we have adopted the mantra of "no pain, no gain" when it comes to fitness.... . For some reason it's viewed as heroic if you stumble over the finish line with blown out knees or lift weights until your biceps tear off. This isn't that surprising seeing that we also think it's ok to use alcohol as a sleeping aid, raise children on coco pops and vote for people who deny climate change. . I'd say as a culture we are pretty adept at ignoring warning signs for superficial short-term gains. Pain is a request for change. . When the body sends pain signals, it's letting you know that there is a better way of doing things. If we continue to ignore it, the signals will only become louder and stronger. We all know someone who's run themselves into multiple knee surgeries or blown out their back trying to lift beyond their capabilities. . This is not the path to sustainable living. Hopefully we can develop some intelligence as individuals and as a culture by tuning in to the requests from our bodies and the planet. No Brain, No Gain. 24.01.2022 **Book Recommendation** Becoming A Supple Leopard by Dr Kelly Starrett and Glen Cordoza. With gift season approaching I figured I’d start recommending some useful books that have influenced by approach to movement, health and the body.... I love this book because it gives you the power to assess your own mobility and movement restrictions then work toward improving them. Kelly is a next-level thinker when it comes to human health and his system is super easy to use. It’s become a resource that I consult regularly. I’d recommend this for anyone interested in strength and conditioning or those looking to improve their movement and get out of pain. Long live the deep squat! #thereadystate #suppleleopard #bookrecommendation

24.01.2022 Book Recommendation: "Move Your DNA" by Katy Bowman of @nutritiousmovement . Katy has been by far the most influential person in my approach to movement. She helped me realise a few years ago that depsite doing short walks and 60+ minutes a day of yoga I was still living a sedentary lifestyle. . One of her great skills is communicating biomechanics to non-scientists like myself while drawing the link between our movement environment and our health.... . A really accessible read for anyone: . "Illness is typically looked at as phsyiology gone wrong. I assert her that in most cases our physiology is responding exactly as it should to the types of movements we have been inputting. Instead of thinking of ourselves as broken, we should emphasise our lack of health as a broken (mechanical) environment." . #moveyourDNA #katybowman #biomechanics See more

22.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you a student or a client? Do you come to learn or to check out? Are you building useful skills or just punishing yourself? . When someone asked Russian strength coach Pavel Tsatsouline how to get their clients more interested in their health and training, Pavel replied:... . "Stop referring to them as clients. Refer to them as students. A client is someone who goes to the hairdresser to have something done to them. A student comes to learn." . Pavels advice speaks to the heart of much of our cultures approach to health and movement: we want someone else to do it for us. . This often means showing up to class to be punished with an overly intense workout that doesnt teach us anything beyond how to get our heart rate up, push through pain and mindlessly do what the teacher says. . Yes, a good teacher/coach will indeed challenge their students but they will also aim to teach skills that enhance intelligence and build character. . Learning how to squat with sustainable technique, notice when your breathing is getting too shallow or say no to a final set are all transferable to everday life. . When we approach our practices as students who are eager to learn, we not only improve our health, resilience and character, we also challenge our teachers to give their absolute best and continue improving their craft. .. 22.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Did you know youre probably going to get old one day? . Hell, you might already be old.... . Either way, youre even older today than you were last week. . The strange thing is that most of us treat our bodies and our movement practice like we are never going to get old. . We push through pain, deny the emotional component of physical tension and seem to be more focused on hitting arbitrary exercise goals rather than moving in a way that is sustainable. . Its somewhat akin to driving your car recklessly with all of the warning lights flashing - somethings got to give eventually. . Heres a challenge: next time you participate in movement, imagine your future-self like an old person that needs taking care of. . Are the patterns youre practicing and reinforcing now going to help them out or put them in pain? . Would they be asking you to slow down and reassess or maybe get your act together and move? . The way you move your body now will in many ways dictate your quality of life in old age. . Why not assess your patterns and philosophy now? Why not be kind to your future-self? . Why not make your movement practice sustainable? . 22.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you striving for quantity or quality? . The "one more rep" mentality is pervasive in so many aspects of modern life - one more beer, one more biscuit, one more hour of tv.... . We compromise safe biomechanics to hit our movement goals, we compromise sleep in the name of productivity, and we trade time with family for time at work. . This behaviour adds up. . With life expectancy high in the Western world (which essentially means machines, drugs and people will keep your corpse alive and drain your bank account), we assume that we can take shortcuts with our health and let technology save us later in life. . But quantity means nothing without quality. . I'd rather share one decent bottle of wine with friends than share ten mediocre bottles. The same goes for music, food, yoga classes or deadlifts. . Focusing on quality in all aspects of life will lead to better outcomes and hopefully a functional, healthy body in your later years. . Monday: 7-8:30pm Greenthorpe Yoga . 21.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you putting planks in the bank? Professor Stuart McGill of @backfitpro has done some great research of spine stability and sporting performance over many decades. ... After testing several ice hockey teams pre-season, McGill and his researchers found that those players who were able to hold side plank for 75 seconds on each side were significantly less likely to sustain an injury during the season. When spines aren't able to cope with load, they either transfer the load elsewhere on the body or absorb it in a less-than-ideal way. Unlike trickle down economics, the trickle down effect of athletic research is real. So even if having the physique of an ice hockey player is not everyone's priority, people can still benefit from the research by practicing spine stability exercises. Whether it's gardening, lifting kids, walking well or playing sports, practicing the side plank (and other spine stabilising moves) is like putting money in the bank when it comes to avoiding injury. I encourage you to re-read this post in a side plank, then re-read it on the other side. . Tuesday: 4:45-6pm Gentle Ladies 6:30-8pm Blokes Yoga . This isnt a nutrition lesson - its 2020 and I assume that most of you land-lovers are effectively avoiding the scurvy. Im referring to the most essential nutrient for human beings - Vitamin Community.... . While its obviously essential to move your body regularly and in a variety of ways, its also essential to interact with others and be a part of something larger than yourself. . This is why it can be so rewarding to exercise in a group and share collective and challenging movement experiences. . 18.01.2022 As we prepare to open the studio doors for group classes this week, wed like to acknowledge the groups in Australia and around the world who repeatedly have doors closed on them. . Living as white Australians on Wiradjuri land, we recognise the position of incredible privilege that enables us to be yoga and movement teachers. . Huge inequalities in health, cultural and historical recognition, economic opportunities, and treatment by police and the legal system still exist be...tween white and Indigenous Australia. . As one example, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders make up 27% of the national prison population while being only 2% of the total population. . These are inequalities that must first be recognised in order to be overcome. . In support of the Indigenous people on whose land we stand, we are donating 100% of our group class earnings this week to BlackFit Fitness an organization dedicated to closing the health gap by educating children on nutrition, movement and culture. We will also be making a regular weekly donation to their cause. . It starts with recognition. We ask you to consider the history of this country from an Indigenous perspective, and find ways in which to support the movement to close the gap. . With love, Eric and Ken. . #blacklivesmatter #BlackFitFitness

18.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you sticking to the plan as best you can? Do you get back on the branch when you fall off? Have you brushed your teeth this week? . Behaviour change is difficult if we hold an-or-nothing mentality.... . We often want to get everything done as fast as possible and be the new, shiny version of ourselves right away. . This approach leads to inconsistency and self-judgement when we inevitably fall off the branch. . If we miss one training session or binge on junk food we often go all-or-nothing in the other direction and give up for the whole week. . Why not aim for consistency and self-love over time? . Think about it - when you forget to brush your teeth in the morning, do you then get angry at yourself and not brush your teeth for the rest of the week? . I think not. . Were all human, we all make mistakes and we all have difficulty creating new habits. . Go easy on yourself, try your best and remember to brush your teeth. . 17.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . How are your stress levels? Are you floating on air or feeling the pinch? . In a world dominated by the digital we are subject to almost continuous stimulation from noise, vibration, light and information.... . This constant humm embeds itself in our tissues in the form of muscular and emotional tension. . The pervasive, cumulative stress of our environment can be so subtle that we dont notice it until we dive underwater or go camping for a few days. . This is why we all need strategies for downregulation. . While its not always viable to go swimming or go bush but we can develop a daily relaxation practice to find some balance. . Smartphones and motor vehicles arent going anywhere, so this riff raff of stressors needs mitigating if we are to give our bodies time and permission to heal. . Putting your legs up the wall for 5 minutes each evening is a great place to start. As is rolling on a ball to relieve some stiffness. . Even laying out and enjoying the sunshine can do wonders. . Take the time to develop your relaxation skills. A bit each day keeps the world at bay. . 14.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you a Mans Man? . Do you provide for the family and change the oil in your car?... . What does manliness mean to you? . For some reason in our culture the idea of manliness is synonymous with self-neglect and emotional closure. . Its considered unmanly to admit to pain, talk about your feelings or even to take care of your body! . How the hell did that become a thing? . While its a broad generalisation, a lot of men take better care of their cars than their bodies. . Its not considered manly to ignore a clanking noise under your bonnet and let your car break down but it is considered manly to ignore a painful clanking in your knee until it can no longer bear weight. . In a world of preventable chronic pain conditions, the underlying assumption seems to be that manliness involves ignoring and battering your body until you become an angry, hobbling, dependant sixty year old healthcare statistic. . Ouch! . I dont think I want to drink to that. . Why not reframe manliness? Why not provide for your family in the long term by taking your health into your own hands? . Theres something pretty manly about a bloke in his seventies who can jump, lift, bend and get down on the floor to play with his grandkids. . ** ps. 13.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Have you picked up your teddy bear lately? Are you channelling your inner toddler and claiming your birthright? . Did you know that the humble deep squat has been essential to the evolution and survival of the human organism?... . Think about it - the squat has allowed us to pick things up from the ground, to drink from streams and to functionally expel our waste before the misguided Western venture into the sit-down toilet. . It has also fostered the growth and development of culture as we grouped around campfires for millenia, passing the stories of our ancestors onto our children. . The squat is a foundational, natural human movement. Just look at how a toddler picks up their teddy from the ground - they have a picture-perfect squat! . No one taught them how to do this; its written in their genetics and activated through their environment (they spend a lot of time on the ground). . Sadly, as we grow older and our environment encourages/demands more sedentary behaviour, we often lose our ability to squat functionally. . This puts us at far greater risk of ankle, knee, hip and back injury as the body finds the easiest way around a lack of mobility, strength and motor control. . But fear not, fine humans! Your birthright can indeed be reclaimed. . Start by spending more time on the floor and paying attention to your spine position every time you sit down... . **Please consult your local toddler before beginning any squat program** . 12.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you facing your obstacles head on? . So often we complain about the things standing in our way and obstructing our lives without realising that these things are often here to help us.... . A challenging creative task, a difficult conversation with a loved one, a recurring injury or even a relationship break up. . These are obstacles that, when faced, will develop our character and make us more resilient. . In a sedentary culture focused on avoiding the struggle, a movement practice can provide much of the physical, mental and emotional challenges to help make you a stronger human being. . And it's not all about lifting the heaviest weight or climbing the highest mountain; sometimes the hardest challenge is slowing down, turning inwards and facing your own thoughts and emotions. . 10.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . How is your brain this week? Are you moving it enough? Are you escaping the zombies? . Did you know that the human brain responds like a muscle in that it grows with use and withers with inactivity?... . And I dont just mean sitting and doing the crossword every day - I mean moving your whole body and providing stimulus for the brain. . Harvard Medical School Professor John Ratey has researched the effects of inactivity on the brain and found that it actually kills the brain and physically shrinks it. . This means we must keep moving to escape our inner Netflix and Chips Zombie if we want to preserve our precious brains... . ....mmmm... brains.... . Living a movement-rich lifestyle is a great strategy to keep our brains sharp, creative and attentive as we age. Its also just part of being a healthy, resilient human being. . 09.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Lets get spiritual!... Wait a minute, what do you mean? . Many folks get put off by the idea of yoga being a "spiritual practice". It often appears to be bandied about by beings who wear the right yoga pants and drink the appropriate amount of kombucha yet wouldnt know how to check a fuse box when the lights go out.... . It often appears less than pragmatic. . As my own practice has deepened and Ive gained a better relationship with my mind, body and emotions, my definition of spirituality has changed. . To me, spirituality isnt just about meditating in solitude or putting your leg behind your head; its about how you relate to yourself, your community and your environment. . If your practice helps you sleep well, get out of a chair without pain, regulate your emotions and openly listen to the needs of others, it is a spiritual practice. . If it improves how you relate to children and how you deal with stress and conflict, it is a spiritual practice. . If it encourages you to deepen your connection to where your food comes from and where your waste ends up, it is indeed a spiritual practice. . Yoga pants are super comfortable, kombucha is tasty, and movement and mindfulness are essential; but they all must have context. . Bring your practice into the everyday. . Real spirituality takes place off the mat. . **Bookings are now made exclusively through our website: https://app.punchpass.com/org/9061/classes . Monday 5:30-6:45pm: Gentle Flow (Ken) . Meditation is one of the most effective ways to regulate mood, decrease anxiety and enhance mental performance and health.... . Countless studies and practitioners have demonstrated the value of meditation in applications as broad as chronic pain management, sporting performance, public speaking, business leadership and marriage counselling. . The cost is low, the commitment is low (who doesnt have a spare 10 minutes?), and the benefits can be life changing. It just takes practice and dedication. . A meditation practice can help calm the mental storm, free up some brain space and allow you to stop worrying about things that are out of your control. . As we restart the global machine and begin spewing carbon across the planet with renewed fervor, its worth taking at least 10 minutes a day to breathe in the here and now. . 09.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you stronger than your grandparents? Chances are you may not be.... Danny Clarke @natural.mover of @movnat has highlighted 6 six key signs that humans are weaker than ever (and it's not just about muscles). . Compared to previous generations, modern Western humans are decreasing in grip strength, lung capacity, bone strength, mental capacity, foot strength and mobility. . In our culture we evolving in an environment that encourages less movement, more calories and less physical challenges than previous generations. . But evolution does not always mean improvement; it just means adaptation. When we can't run, lift, climb, carry, crawl or problem solve our way out of dangerous situations, we are severely limiting our ability to adapt to and connect with the natural world. . This means more and more situations and environments appear dangerous to us because we lack the skills and the physique to safely move through them. This is a dangerous trend, as increasing our connection to nature is essential to solving many of the crises that we now collectively face. Imagine a world where adults and children are afraid to explore the bush behind their house? How can we value and protect something that we have no connection to? As usual, getting outdoors and encouraging children to do the same is one of the best steps toward improving our collective health. Humans and communities are strongest when connected. . 09.01.2022 I often wonder who wins in the game of manliness. . Its certainly not the Mans Man who ignores his growing medical problems and finds himself being cared for by an overwhelmed partner, family or healthcare worker for the final 15-20 years of his life. . Is it the physiotherapist who encounters the Mans Man as a patient 30 years too late and now has a reliable source of income?... . Is it the alcohol or pharmaceutical companies who mask his chronic pain so he can push even more? . Maybe its the NRL who keep him entertained and distracted? . I dont know for sure, but I dont think anyone wins. . No one wins the game of manliness. . Lets change the rules or play a different game. . I might even drink to that. . #changetheoil #fixyourself #realblokestakecareofthemselves #movelikean80yearold #sustainablemovement #dontbeadumbbloke #relaxation #relaxationstrategies #downregulation #onlineyoga #yogaresilience #breathingisawesome See more

08.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you a tree hugger? . Tree climbing is an innate human skill that is rapidly disappearing. Once upon a time we climbed trees for the necessity of food or safety, and with these things in relative abundance, we no longer need to climb trees.... . Or do we? . Human bodies require complex movement and environmental stimulus in order to thrive; and gyms do their best to replicate some of these stimuli. . But while its one thing to climb a rope or a piece of gym equipment; its another thing entirely to climb a tree. . Trees provide such an infinite array of surfaces, textures, challenges and loads that they are one of the most effective devices for challenging strength, mobility, balance and overall coordination. . There is no piece of exercise equipment that even comes close to the movement variety and complexity of a well-developed tree. . As well as being excellent tools for human physical development, trees are just really damn cool. Not only do they provide oxygen for us to breathe, they can also communicate with other trees and share nutrients for their collective survival. . We indeed have much to learn from trees. . I really love trees, and while I dont identify as a tree hugger, I certainly identify as a tree climber. . Something tells me that if you really dig down, you may be one as well. . 07.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you immersing yourself in nature regularly? We live in a culture that is profoundly disconnected from the natural world. Even walking barefoot on grass is an alien concept to many these days. ... When we become disconnected from anything - nature, our bodies, our partners - we tend to not care so much about their state of wellbeing. This way of living leads to pain, further disconnection and eventual degradation. This is why spending actual time in nature is so important. This is also why I love to climb trees and train outdoors. . When we actively participate in the natural world, we develop deeper ties and personal reasons to protect it. Plan a day hike or just take a walk in your local nature reserve with friends or family (maybe encourage your kids to climb trees along the way). The process can be immensely connecting. . 06.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Are you a sensational painter? Do you have many colours in your palette? Did you know that your body "thinks in feels"? . If we view the full range of physical sensation like a rainbow or colour spectrum, its important to be able to see every colour available to us.... . This creates a deeper, more connected mind/body relationship where we paint a multicoloured portrait of sensation and emotion. . Quite often people become so disconnected from their bodies due to illness, injury, inactivity or trauma that they no longer have the ability to feel a broad range of sensations. . Only the "brightest", most intense of sensations (extreme pleasure or pain) can be felt or "seen". . This disconnect can become problematic as we lose the ability to recognise subtle messages and early warning signs from our nervous system; leaving the door open for chronic pain and disease. . Embodied practices such as yoga or meditation can be hugely beneficial in developing our palette of sensations as we are encouraged to slow down, breathe deeply and pay attention to changing sensations. . The deeper we practice, the more colours become available to us over time. . Take the time to pay attention to your subtlest sensations. Paint a broad picture of your body. It may just lead to a more colourful life. . Monday: 6:30-7pm Meditation and Mindfulness 6:30-8pm Greenthorpe Yoga . Tuesday: 4:45-6pm Gentle Ladies 6:30-8pm Blokes Yoga . 06.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Do you have an extra set of hands or are you walking around in a cast? . When a child breaks their arm, they get a cast put on that arm to protect it for a couple of months. Yet, when a child (or adult) has problems with their feet, they are often prescribed orthotics for the rest of their life!... . This effectively stunts their physical development and limits their movement potential. . How does that make sense? . While orthotics do have their place for some people, they are like wearing a cast that prevents healthy foot function. This leads to problems with balance, speed, strength, sensory perception and motor control. . Its kind of like wearing snow gloves all the time. . Even without orthotics, most footwear in our culture restricts movement and significantly affects the development of the foot (and the whole body). . Bunions dont just happen - they are a result of shoes that do not suit the shape of our feet. . One might say its a less-intense form of foot binding. . And no, I dont advocate that everyone goes 100% barefoot or shifts to minimal footwear immediately - you dont take a cast off your arm and do a hundred push ups straight away. . Rehabbing from Western industrial foot-binding takes patience, corrective exercises and lots of varied surfaces, but when done properly its like gaining another set of hands! . Have a think about the shoes that you and your children wear. Are they helping you move or holding you back? . Tuesday: 4:45-6pm Gentle Ladies 6:30-8pm Blokes Yoga . 06.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Whats your personal myth? Whats your cultures myth? What stories did you grow up with and how did they influence you? . The stories we tell about ourselves are important. They can allow us to grow or they can keep us sedentary.... . Many folks experience injury or illness and this becomes their personal myth that limits their ability to move, grow and thrive. . What starts out as a legitimate, short-term reason for inactivity, becomes an embedded, long-term story that leads to further illness and chronic pain. . Without investing time and energy to self-reflect, revise and develop our personal stories we are at risk of stagnation and decline. . As our country clomps down the path of aggressive budget cuts to our public broadcasters, Id like you to think about where your childrens stories are going to come from. . Would you prefer stories dictated by corporate advertising revenue or stories created by humans who have a vested interest in keeping us well-informed, critical-minded and culturally literate? . When we lose our stories and the ability to hear those without a mainstream voice, we begin closing off and stagnating as a culture. . This can only lead to illness and pain. . 05.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . What's the point? Why do you practice what you practice? . Is there a deeper meaning to your triangle pose or do you just like making pretty shapes?... . A consistent movement practice can do wonders for individuals and communities alike. . In a modern life largely removed from significant danger, we need controlled risks and challenges in order to develop skills, character and resilience. . We also need dedicated down-time to learn how to relax. . I've never heard a parent say that they sent their kid to karate to become a human weapon. They usually send them to learn discipline, formal movement and how to interact respectfully with themselves and others. . It's the same concept for adults in almost any embodied discipline when matched and practiced appropriately. . I practice yoga so I can regulate my emotions, improve my sleep and develop a positive relationship with my body through direct, mindful experience. . This has incredible flow-on effects to the quality of all of my other relationships. . When our movement practice serves us, it also serves our families and communities. . Otherwise, what's the point? . Monday: 6:30-7pm Meditation and Mindfulness 7-8:30pm Greenthorpe Yoga . Tuesday: 4:45-6pm Gentle Ladies 6:30-8pm Blokes Yoga . 05.01.2022 Do you know the Mechanome? The Mechanome? The Mechanome? . Ok ok, the Mechanome does not live on Drury Lane; but regular walks, runs, skips and crawls up Drury Lane are examples of the mechanome in your body. . The Mechanome is, in the words of Katy Bowman, the "the interplay between forces and biology."... . In other words, its how movement and the environment affect our genetic expression. . We all have genes which influence how our bodies develop, and unfortunately this can lead to a sense of powerlessness. . Yet the role of movement and the environment is so rarely discussed. To quote Bowman again: "If you (and your genes) lay in bed for fifteen years beginning the day you were born, you would not end up looking the same (in person or on paper) as you would have had you (and your genes) been upright and moving around for fifteen years. This is an extreme example, but all movement and lack of movement create subtle differences in outcome in individuals and their genes." . Just because something is deemed genetic does mean we are powerless. The more we move throughout our days and our lives, the more resilient we can become. . This is not breakthrough science, but in our Western approach to fixing problems with the right medicine, we ignore the fact that often the cause of the "problem" is a lifestyle without adequate movement - a lifestyle driving up Drury Lane when we could have been walking. . 05.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Do ya'll like cookin'? Are you really into food? Do you go to a restaurant every time you need to eat? . Imagine if the only place you ate was at a restaurant in your special "eating wear" with shoes to match. That would be weird.... . I presume you don't do this with food, but a lot of us do it with movement. . We too often restrain our movement practice to a gym or yoga studio where we dress up in "active wear" to tick off our exercise box for the day and go back to being sedentary. . Why not become a movement cook? Why not create delicious movement snacks in the comfort of your own home? . A kitchen bench can provide a great surface to stretch the muscles of the back as well as a place to do scaled push ups. Every floor is begging to be crawled on and even a simple chair can provide a good target to practice air squats or back bends. . When we view our home as a movement-rich environment, we can feed our bodies with the movement nutrients they need. . 03.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** . Do you believe in fate? Are you making the unconscious conscious? How are your knees? . Carl Jung once wrote: "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."... . Weve all heard something along the lines of "the surgeon said my knee wore out cos of old age", when in fact a more accurate answer could be, "my knee wore out because I walked 10 000 steps a day for 40 years with my foot turned out and this repetitive pattern gradually wore out my ligaments, tendons and meniscus." . Human beings love simple answers, particularly ones which absolve personal responsibility. . Funnily enough, the surgeon rarely explains why one knee wore out from old age when the other didnt. Maybe it was older? . We are all engaged in patterns that either serve us or gradually wear us down; be it the way we walk, the way we eat or the way we interact with our loved ones. . If we assign every aspect of our health to old age, fate or genetics, we rob ourselves of the opportunity to take control and make improvements - we rob ourselves of the opportunity to control our fate. . 03.01.2022 **Weekly Timetable Below** Are you hitting the brakes in time? In a sedentary culture fueled by caffeine, sugar and anxiety it can be incredibly difficult to slow down.... Not only are we short on sleep and generally starved of adequate movement; our devices are incessantly flashing in our faces and fueling the consumer capitalist fiesta we're led to believe is Christmas. This set of circumstances quite often leads us to feeling like we're running on the spot. The added stress of the pre-festive season means time appears moves faster, tempers are shorter and we often lose the ability to connect meaningfully with the ones we care about (which is essentially what Christmas is all about). It's times like these when awareness of breath and body is most important. I'm generally not one for mantras, but Freediver Kimi Werner offers a phrase that I find incredibly useful: "When you feel the need to speed up, slow down" Whether you're 40m underwater without an oxygen tank or anxiously waiting in line at the supermarket, this gentle reminder can do wonders for our physical, mental and emotional state. Challenge yourself by slowing down. Observe the benefits. Tuesday: 4:45-6pm Gentle Ladies 6:30-8pm Blokes Yoga . 02.01.2022 Would you listen to a movement teacher who has no formal training yet encourages you to put your body into dangerous situations? . Would you get angry at a qualified teacher for pointing out ways to improve your movement patterns and prolong your health? . Would you listen to tv and radio commentators with no scientific credentials claiming that human-induced climate change isnt real?... . I would assume the answer to all of these questions is "no". . Despite having one of the best education systems on theplanet, Australia is ranked 56th in the world for climate denial. . This is in large part due to unqualified media personalities pushing their opinions on our population (not to mention the fossil fuel companies funding them). . Im all for lively debates between experts, but in this age of misinformation it seems experts are rarely the ones given a platform. . Insteadits conservative commentators with loud voices who refuse to accept that we have to make significant changes to our lifestyles in order to pass on an inhabitable planet to our children. . Strangely enough, "conservative" and "conservation" seem to have opposing definitions. . Take some time to consider where your information comes from.
