17.01.2022 MEET THE CYC: TAHLIA MURRAY Today we are getting the chance to get to know one of the Cowra Youth Council’s newest members: the vibrant, interesting and thoughtful, Tahlia Murray. At the end of 2019, Tahlia chose to be on the Cowra Youth Council because she wanted to be more involved within the Cowra community. Since joining, Tahlia has made amazing new friendships and taken part in a number of different events.... Tahlia believes her greatest strengths are being dependable, respectful and flexible. Tahlia’s involvement in CYC thus far has given her many opportunities to display these qualities. Tahlia’s favourite event that she has been involved with to date has been the CYC pool movie night which, was my favourite CYC event as I feel it was a major success and it was all ‘round fun to hold, Tahlia expressed. When Tahlia isn’t listening to her favourite song, ‘When You Love Someone’ by James TW or watching her favourite movie ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, she can be found having a laugh with her friends, eating her favourite food (nuggets or steak) or reading a good book. When asked what appealed to her about her favourite song, Tahlia said it is when James sings about parents not staying together, but them still loving you nonetheless. The biggest inspiration throughout Tahlia’s life has been her Mum. She says her Mum has helped shape her into the person she is today. Tahlia said, Just watching how she has done so many things by herself has shown me that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve anything I want. When her time volunteering on the Youth Council is completed, Tahlia plans to get a job in childcare and an apprenticeship in tattooing as she finds tattooing a beautiful art form as it allows people from the community to express themselves. Looking back over her life so far, Tahlia is most proud of herself and how strong she has been. Cowra is fortunate to have so many passionate, intelligent and resilient young people just like Tahlia Murray in its community who strive to serve others to the best of their abilities. 06.01.2022 MEET THE CYC: LIZZIE HEILMAN Lizzie Heilman is one of the newest recruits for youth council this year and has brought her enthusiasm and optimism into the scene to take an active role in the youth council activities. Lizzie was inspired to join CYC after witnessing the numerous events they organise and she saw this as an opportunity to make new long lasting friendships and make a positive impact in the Cowra community. Her most memorable experience so far has been the end of ...year party. She loved making friendships with such a welcoming, kind and funny group of youth that she has ever met in her life. Lizzie loves reading in her spare time and has a sweet tooth for A LOT of chocolate. She also loves learning new things in science, maths and history at school. Lizzie actively participates in sports and loves being with her friends. Her favourite movie is the original StarWars trilogy. It’s phenomenal soundtrack and story line is a favourite of Lizzie’s. Farming is also a great passion of Lizzie’s. She absolutely loves learning new things from her dad. Lizzie has been inspired by many prominent people in her life- her grandpa’s strong perseverance, her Granny’s high intellect, the hilarious humour of her Grandpa, her Mother’s selfless nature, and her dad’s wisdom. Unfortunately this year will be Lizzie’s first and last year in the CYC as she is leaving for boarding school next year. She is planning to study drama and agriculture at her new school and take part in as many extra circulars as humanly possible! Lizzie strongly believes that we should always be kind, work hard, and look after ourselves. She has significantly exceeded this and CYC has been extremely lucky to have such a dedicated and compassionate individual in the team. We wish Lizzie the very best and hope she will have the greatest time she could ever think. Lizzie plans to travel to Ireland and be an au pair to create new memorable experiences after school. She hopes to study veterinary science or nursing as well. But all of this is so far away and Lizzie still has many years of high school left (and life) to figure out her entire life. Like Lizzie’s favourite song Bless the Broken Road, she strongly believes everything happens for a reason and all your experiences shape the person you are. The sky’s the limit for you Lizzie! 03.01.2022 MEET THE CYC: EMMA CLEMMENTS The world needs strong women. Women who will lift and build others, who will love and be loved. Women who live bravely, both tender and fierce. Women of indomitable will. Amy Tenney Emma Clements is one such woman. A woman of dedication and kindness, of sincerity and compassion. ... Emma joined the Youth council back in 2018 with the ambition to help the youth of cowra and provide new and innovative ideas to council. Emma’s greatest passion is the Japanese language, she even travelled to Japan at the beginning of this year fully immersing herself in a culture she loves. In Japan, Emma met her exchange student mother Noriko. Emma describes her as a beautiful lady with an inspirational spirit She told me to make the most of the exchange because it is something that will change my life forever. Youth council has been a thrilling experience for Emma, her most memorable event being the Screen and Splash. Watching jaws, swimming and being surrounded by friends was a great deal of fun. Emma’s favourite food is Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) which she has a special talent for eating an excessive amount and still being hungry. Her favourite movie is The Bridge to Terabithia for its ability to stimulate her imagination and therefore always have a new experience every time she watches it. Emma, being the insightful person that she is, would tell her younger self to not be afraid about being yourself, something we can all encourage in each other. Emma’s favourite song is Ribs by Lorde it explains how life was a lot simpler as a kid and as you get older you lose people that you thought you would be with for the rest of your life. After Emma’s time at the Youth council she plans to take a gap year to travel all over the world and then return to study at university but that is a while away. For now, Emma’s continuously improving the CYC with her positive and helping/caring attitude.
