22.01.2022 Create your own Bonsai Workshop - Saturday 10th October 2020. Cath Duncan will be hosting a Bonsai workshop at Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre on Saturday 10th October from 10am-12pm. This workshop will be to create your own Bonsai to take home with you. The tuition is free however the materials for the workshop will cost $25.00, this includes a pot, tree, wire and soil. Usual entry fees to the Garden will apply; if you have a current Friend of the Garden annual pa...ss your entry is free. If you wish to attend you will need to book your place by phoning the Garden on 6341 2233. Places are limited with only 8 spots available so we recommend you book early.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the previous Bonsai workshops, Cath Duncan will be hosting 2 more Bonsai workshops at Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre on Saturday 21st November. The first will run 10am-12pm, and the second from 1pm to 3pm. These workshops will be to create your own Bonsai to take home with you. 19.01.2022 Refilling the lake will continue over the weekend and we hope to have the waterfall running again on Sunday. Please be aware that a water pipe will be across the path at the bottom of the lake over the weekend and we ask that you take the path around the top of the lake to get back to the cultural centre, gift shop and cafe. The Koi have been returned to the lake and will be much easier to see when you visit. Thank you for your patience and understanding

17.01.2022 The cleaning of the bottom lake and the pump replacement work is well under way. This work may take a few days to complete however it will greatly improve the aesthetics of the Garden, the water quality in the lake and the visitor experience in the future. We do apologise to our visitors and to the cafe patrons for the noise of the work and for the inconvenience of having the area in front of the the lake closed to the public while the work is completed. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

15.01.2022 Many happy returns to Mr. Teruo Murakami who is today celebrating his 100th Birthday. Mr Murakami is the last known surviving Japanese Prisoner of War to take p...art in the Cowra Breakout on 5th August 1944. A strong supporter of the Cowra-Japan relationship, Mr Murakami has visited Cowra on many occasions to pay his respects to former comrades and participate in Cowra Breakout commemorations. Good health and best wishes on your special day from the members of the Cowra Breakout Association. The photo shows Mr Murakami laying a wreath with Mayor of Cowra Councillor Bill West in the Cowra Japanese War Cemetery during the 70th Anniversary commemorations of the Cowra Breakout - 5th August 2014.

13.01.2022 The bottom lake has now been cleaned and refilled and the waterfall is running again. Congratulations to our 4 person gardening team led by our Head Gardener Mathew Rush. They have been able to complete this work within a week and still managed to present the 12.5 acre Garden in its usual pristine condition. Well done team!

12.01.2022 Spring Japanese Cultural Activities cancelled due to Covid-19. Sakura Matsuri (the Cherry Blossom Festival) was cancelled previously, but we had hoped to bring you a program of individual Japanese cultural activities to the Garden throughout the Spring. Unfortunately the growing number of Covid-19 outbreaks & hot-spots and the increased risks have led to the decision to cancel the planned activities for this year.... We do hope that 2021 will see the return to some normality and that we will be able to bring you the Festival and other activities next year. We do apologise for any inconvenience. Many of the trees in the Garden are blossoming now, some are just beginning.......the blossoms have arrived around two to three weeks earlier than in previous years so the Garden will be at its most vibrant over the next week to ten days.

Hopefully 2021 will see things return to some form of normality and our events such as the Easter activities, Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) and Carols in the Garden will be able to proceed. 11.01.2022 Ever wondered what our lakes looked like empty? The team has been working extremely hard this week to get the lake cleaned out and they are nearly ready to begin refilling the lake. It has been very interesting to see how rocks are positioned and to see the overall design of the lake, waterfalls and ponds while they are dry. The Koi are safe and have been temporarily housed in the top lake. They will be returned to the bottom lake very soon.... Well worth a look if you get a chance! See more

09.01.2022 What a lovely start to the week, the sun is out and the weather is certainly warming up. We are now open from 9am - 5pm, 7 days a week. Dogs are welcome on a lead and the Koi Carp are slowly showing themselves after hibernation in the winter. We cant wait for you to visit.

We believe that this is the pin that has been handed in this afternoon and we would like to be able to return it. 04.01.2022 The waterfall in to the bottom lake of the Garden has been shut down to enable maintenance and cleaning work to be carried out on the lake and there will be some minor disruption along the pathway at the front of the lake in the week commencing 15th Feb. If all goes well we hope to have work completed by the end of next week. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

04.01.2022 The cleaning is done and the refilling of the lake has commenced. It won't be too long now before the waterfall is running and the Koi are returned. A huge congratulations to Mathew Rush and the Gardening team for their efforts on this massive task. A job well done!
