02.01.2022 What a great way to end the golfing weekend, with the 2nd Cowra Plasterworks Shootout this morning. It’s a simple stableford format where the lowest stableford ...score each hole drops out. If you have multiple people on the same lowest score then you go to a chip off where the furthest from the pin is gone. 17 players were assembled after a few late withdrawals. The object was to be the last person left standing on the 18th green. We had 2 free holes to warm up before the carnage began on the third. Dave Thompson had a 7 a wipe and he then left the playing ranks. The 4th hole saw promising junior Noah Ryan lose a ball in unlucky circumstances resulting in a wipe. The 5th hole saw a 6 way chip off between Craig Jeffries, Tiger Wilson, Squeak, Rod Haug, Jim Laycock and the sponsor himself Gyprock Jones. Tiger caught the chip a bit chunky and he was gone. Andy Redgrave waited forlornly under a tree beside the 6th green and his wipe proved the worst score. The 7th saw another 6 way chip off between Squeak, Johnsy, Nicky Basson, Ticky Lee, Shunter McLean and Jimmy Laycock. Jimmy chunked his chip and departed the competition. The 8th saw the Captain struggle in the bunker and he departed. Mick Prescott chipped in after going over the left hand bunker to record his first ever eagle. Well done Mick I know you appreciated how happy we were for you. Up the 9th Ticky drove long and right and didn’t have much to work with and everyone else was situated well. He took a punt on a draw up the 5th but the ball said no and was last seen heading at Whites Smash Repairs. Ticky goooone. The 10th saw 2 groups of five tee off. Rod Haug struggled here with a wipe and we were down to 9. The 11th saw Craig Jeffries in trouble off the tee and not recovering, down to 8. Things got tight on 12 and pars were coming thick and fast, Gyprock missed a 20 footer downhill and his 5/1 saw him on the sidelines. The 13th saw Shunter, Tom and Mick Prescott have bogeys and go to a 51 meter chipoff. Mick came up short and we are down to 6. The 14th saw Squeak in trouble off the tee and not recover from there. 15 finally saw Dean Murray crack. He had smoked his handicap all day and played some great pressure golf but finally he stumbled and a 7/1 saw us left with Jacob Moodie, Tom Perfect, Shunter and Nicky Basson. The 16th hole saw 4 two pointers so the boys went back to a 45 metre chip zone where Shunter loaded up and lost his chip over the back of the green and his excellent day was over. In trouble off the tee on 17 Tom drew a little 9 iron but flew it through the green. He tried a T Bone flop shot but caught it thin and couldn’t get up and down and we were left with Jacob and Nicky. Neither found the fairway on 18 or the green in regulation. Coming from the right greenside bunker Jacob left himself a 20 foot downhill across slope slider. Nicky was almost on the practice putting green. Both had 5’s and Gyprock sent them back to the tee box. Jacob again missed left and his punchy draw came up just short. Nicky found the middle of the fairway but his 8 iron fell just short. Both chipped well but with the flat stick Jacob lipped out and Nicky held his 4 footer to record a win. Thanks to Paul and Kim from Cowra Plasterworks for todays opportunity and your long term sponsorship. See more
