24.01.2022 It has been 7 days since our beautiful little school burnt to the ground and lost absolutely everything, all the history, all the archives, everything not even a paper clip was saved. (Due to the asbestos nothing could be recovered). We have reflected over the past week in what Cowwarr Primary meant to our students. For some it is a place to make friends and learn. For others it was a place they felt safe. Safe from bullies, safe from the outside world. When you hear that Cow...warr Primary was a safe place for them, it really does bring a tear to my eye. Little people dont understand its not the building that makes them feel safe, its the teachers, the students and the parents. We are all still together as a team and we will get through this tough time. Mrs Bassett Business Manager Please if anyone would like to help rebuild our beautiful little school there has been a non for profit account been set up to collect donations. 23.01.2022 I (Miss Marg) am shouting out a HUGE THANKYOU to staff, both present and past, all students and their families and the whole community for the great number of well wishes I received for my 21st year at Cowwarr Primary. I am truly grateful to have you all in my life, I could not have got to this stage without being surrounded by such beautiful people, you make getting up and coming to work and wanting to be there so much easier. We would like to thank two of our thoughtful fat...hers and a past student, Big Mick, Little Mick and Nathan Cachia for helping put together some adjustable height tables for us to use and for shifting some boxes around to give us some more space. Thanks boys, we really appreciate it. We would also like to thank Rob Clarke another thoughtful dad for coming in and bringing with him some old aboriginal artefact tools. While kids were working on inclusion and diversity, Rob kindly offered to show these to the kids and explain where they come from and what they would have been used for. Thankyou. Yesterday we had a Footy Colours day at school, thank you to more wonderful parents, Sam, Justine and Amy for organising some hot diggity dog lunches for us all. A difficult task during these covid times but, as always our team can do it. Thanks ladies. Also we were extremely lucky to get a milkshake from The Silly Galah coffee van situated beside Rockies Electrical in the main street of Cowwarr. Lena and Jimmy kindly donated milk shakes to us all and they were incredible. It is not very often we get something like this and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you very much Lena and Jimmy it was very nice of you.

23.01.2022 Mr Fitt explaining to Boof what work is required for his remote learning for the next week. Our learning packs are put together by our staff to suit each student and their needs. In conjunction with our paper packs students check in via google classroom video link daily, this helps our students stay connected with their class mates. Also to support our families during these tiring times, a weekly call home is made to make sure our parents are OK and coping with the work given to the students. #inthistogether #wevegotthis

21.01.2022 How lucky we are at Cowwarr to have Albie Fitt as our principal or team leader. Albie has just clocked up 10 years of being a principal. He made a choice to shift to Gippsland & take on principal positions at Wurruk, Cobains, Loch Sport & Cowwarr. Albie has been a huge asset to all of these schools as he really cares & gives his all. He does this not because he has to, but because he wants to. Albie you are so genuine & generous...a person that gives freely & does not seek reward. Congratulations Albie.

21.01.2022 We can not thank everyone enough for their support over the last 24 hours. The willingness to donate to our school has been very overwhelming and we are so very grateful. We are devastated about the loss of our beautiful school and for what the school representented to the Cowwarr Community. We have been working very hard today to get things in place to support our young people and their families, and will continue to nurture them during this time. There has been a lot of p...eople asking about how they can help or where they can make donations to support our school community; we kindly ask that you hold on to your donations as we have been busy setting up the appropriate avenues to collect these generous gestures. More information about how you can support our school community will be announced tomorrow. Thank you all so much Cowwarr Team

19.01.2022 COWWARR PRIMARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL DEVASTATED The kids at Cowwarr went back to school yesterday only to have their school burn down last night. About 60 firefi...ghters including crews from Morwell and Traralgon were called to the fire about 9.30pm. Twenty-two children including three new prep students started school at Cowwarr yesterday. Principal Albie Fitt says the entire town is devastated. "I am concerned about the staff, the children and the parents and as you can hear I am also pretty upset myself... because we are all really connected and we all really care about each other." Police and fire investigators will determine the cause of the fire Photo: Sandra Shumski

19.01.2022 The Fitt Bit Well team, it is great to be back in Cowwarr in our space where we belong and feel safe. We are in a new building which is really nice. The rooms are large, pleasant to be in and our new equipment is state of the art. ... But talking to the kids in the senior class I can see that there is still grieving happening as they recall their old school and good times that they have had. Some want it back and some just want to settle back into a constant routine. Some have reflected that they have moved in their own lives and prefer the stability of one place that they know. Some reflected that they are tired and find it hard to think at present. In general I think we are all coming into another phase of grief which is feeling a little low as the adrenaline has gone and the reality of the disruption of moving takes over. We know your children very well and we care about them. They talk to us and we sense when things are not right. And parents, we care about you and we know that you care about us. Your caring conversations, your help in our moving and your affirmation of us as people is for me sometimes a little overwhelming. This is truly a wonderful school community and after teaching for many years this is a community that I will always feel proud, for allowing me, to be a part of it. Our meeting on Wednesday about the new, new build was also amazing with the people from Melbourne overwhelmed by the strength and the level of ownership that our parents have for our school. They also noticed the love for this school and how highly it has been and still is regarded. Just before we left Heyfield we talked about this move and I questioned the children about how they were feeling. One junior said I just want things to be back the way they were. As I listened a tear came to my eye and I responded Me too! But things happen and what I have learnt from all of this is that people are most important. With no building to distract me, I have seen the faces of the children, parents and community. They are friendly faces, affirming faces and faces of people who care and want to help. What has been reinforced to me is that we are the school and even without a building, we remain a strong school team. It doesnt matter how old you get you still keep learning! Next Wednesday to cheer up the children we are taking them to the movies in Sale. There will be no charge and if parents want to come we will cheer you up too! Thanks parents for your respect, Resilience, responsibility and self (Team) belief as we couldnt have done it without you. Your children are the best, they have been great too! A quote from the interviewer from channel 9, We love to interview your kids as they are respectful and the most articulate kids that we have met. Can we come back again? We feel that we are all very lucky to be in the Cowwarr Team because we get to come back every day! Albie Fitt.

19.01.2022 Having lost our Christmas tree when our school was destroyed by fire, our seniors students had to think outside the square for a new and improved tree and constructed this beauty.

09.01.2022 On the 29th January 24 students arrived at Cowwarr Primary School for their first day of 2020 with eager anticipation and their bags full to the brim with all t...he school supplies they would need for the school year. They discussed all the events of the summer and what they got for Christmas. They learnt who the new students were and where they would be seated. Sadly this would be their last day at the school also as devastatingly their school burnt to the ground that evening. Students will relocated temporarily to Heyfield Primary School. Help us to assist them in the transition as their school is rebuilt. We have many donations for raffle prizes and will list them as they come to hand. Thank you to those businesses who have donated either a prize or a voucher.

09.01.2022 With the fire destroying our school back in January we are chasing any class or whole school photos especially prior to 2002. If you can scan (jpg file & high resolution) and email to [email protected] this would be fantastic. Or call into the school and we can scan it while you wait.

07.01.2022 Mr Fitt, it gives me great pleasure to be doing this on behalf of the Cowwarr Primary School Team. Firstly, Thankyou for choosing Cowwarr Primary as a place you would like to be a principal at. Oh, and thankyou to those on the panel that chose you to Fitt the position. You have been a fundamental part of the school now having many enrolments and reforming the school into a place where students want to be, even when they are sick or on holidays. You show genuine appreciation f...or the efforts and work that contribute to the growth of the team and its environment. You have an extraordinary ability to unite people and this has resulted in a major improvement in the school community connectedness. You lift those around you with your positivity and of course, it goes without saying that your jokes and humour also contribute to that. You have impressed us with the way you’ve handled the organisation of our school and its team through the trying times of this year. All these attributes and many more unsaid, along with the wonderful, caring and consistent person you are, makes you an inspiration to us all. We have made it through a tough year this year because you are a true leader. You have worked so hard to achieve the stability needed for us all to move forward into the future and our new building. Your enthusiasm, commitment and dedication towards developing Cowwarr Primary as a team has been endless and for that we are extremely grateful and would like to recognise this. Congratulations on your well-earned & deserved award. YOU are an integral part of Cowwarr Primary’s TEAM and our HERO.

04.01.2022 A word from Mr Fitt.. Wow, just look at the pictures of our new building! We are so fortunate at Cowwarr that the Education Minister is following through on his promise to rebuild our school after the fire. We as a team, are very appreciative of how we have been treated and cared for and are overwhelmed by how special and personal our new school will be. We are a close knit team of children staff and parents and we also welcome our wider community. Our new school reflects th...is openness, and welcomes our team inside to space, colour and personality. Although the school building is new, its design reflects our past and allows us to remember, but still moves us into the 21st century. I remember listening to speaker once who had a title for his talk Remembering the Future! This is how I see our new school as we remember where we’ve come from and that the people are the team. We remember the good times of generations and what we have learnt to get us to this point but we look forward to bigger and better things in the future. I love the new building already and I loved the old building too. You can do both as what I loved about the old building was spending time with my team and what I love about the new building is that it is a new place to spend time with my team remembering the future. Our building has a large gallery and decking for our concert. Decking on which to have lunch, a staff area for the coffee machine, an area for the arts and science and two fantastic classroom spaces. It also has beautiful landscaping to make it look just right. It is our school, it is Cowwarr’s school and it signals a great future which we can all look forward to. Special thanks to the architects, to Lianne Bassett who patiently worked to get everything just right, to Nicky Meddings our school council President who shared her ideas and opinions, to the school council which supported the build with ideas, to the staff who had input into what is needed in a school for good learning to take place, to the students who did drawings of what they wanted, and to all of our families who deserve the best and inspire and support us every day. So this OUR SCHOOL.

03.01.2022 Here are some aerial photos of our school. Thanks to Peter Bassett.

03.01.2022 Great day today everyone.

02.01.2022 Hamish one of our year 6 students printed a ‘Thor hammer’ on the 3D printer. We are trying to beat the virus.

02.01.2022 The Christmas Fitt Bit, As I ponder the end to another year at Cowwarr I have happy thoughts. Although we have seen a lot of tears as grade six students graduate and have to leave, I feel a sense of pride that our team has grown so strong that people feel connected and dont want to leave . As a human one basic need that we have is to belong. A sense of belonging eases anxiety and fear. A sense of belonging means that you have a place. A sense of belonging means that you feel... accepted and will most probably feel better about yourself as a result. At assembly on Monday we experienced first hand what belonging means from the preps to the senior grade. Preps spoke about how there is a mixture of sad and happy when you leave a team. One younger student cried as she told the seniors that they had helped her and that she will really miss them. One unique feature of a small school culture is that of family. Also during Monday morning assembly parents were crying as they recalled children growing and changing and being a part of the team. Parents are a part of the team too. They feel connected and that they belong. Families who leave our school feel sad as they move into a new school community, why, because they feel a sense of belonging. Parents choose to spend time at school helping in all sorts of ways because they feel a part of the team. Staff too feel that they belong. Accepted by children and parents for who they are not just because they are teachers. We are people and we love the way that this community helps us to feel a sense of belonging. I loved my special song at the concert because it made me feel like I belong. The people around this school community feel its connectedness. People comment and even , like our Lions representative at the concert, that they wish they had attended a school like this when they were young. Wow, what a complement! So here it is in a nutshell. The formula to a good, if not the best school around. Education plus self belief plus really caring plus belonging equals Cowwarr Primary. Thankyou to the Cowwarr Team of students , staff, and parents for making the team so special. I feel like I belong and I hope that you all do too. Please stay safe on the holidays, look after each other and remember that you belong in our team and we need you. We can look forward to the new year with anticipation as our team continues on its journey to bigger and better places and at the same time continues to build on the qualities that make us stand out from the rest. Merry Christmas to you and your families from myself and the whole staff at Cowwarr Primary and see you next year.

02.01.2022 Our teachers working extremely hard getting take home packs ready for remote learning.

02.01.2022 Today after 33 days Cowwarr Primary staff and students have returned back home. The Department of Education have supplied us with 3 portables to call home, until our new school is built. The day started off with a wobble, our generator had been switched off. No power means soiled milk and our recently installed servers needing to be reconfigured. Other than that hick up we all had a great day and so glad to be back in our own space. We are also very grateful for the wonderful hospitality from Heyfield Primary who allowed us to share their school for 4 weeks.

01.01.2022 A tight knit Gippsland community has watched in tears as fire destroyed their beloved primary school. #9News
