25.01.2022 Last night one of our paramedics was disgracefully assaulted in the back of an ambulance by a patient on the way to hospital on the Gold Coast. As you can see f...rom these photos it was a vicious attack that has left a dedicated paramedic - who spends his life helping and caring for others - with significant facial injuries. We are seething about this disgusting anti-social behaviour, which is becoming more common in our community. We will not tolerate paramedics being attacked and we promise anyone who tries it will feel the full force of the law. But we need you to help by raising awareness about this issue and denouncing violence against paramedics, health workers, emergency services personnel and in fact, ANYONE in our community. It is not acceptable in a modern civilised society and it needs to stop. Please share this message.

24.01.2022 Meet 92-year-old Nancy, the first patient to be treated and transported in Australias first mobile stroke ambulance. In late November, Nancy returned home afte...r having lunch with a friend and realised she was having speech difficulties. The quick diagnosis and on-the-road care provided by the Mobile Stroke Unit staff helped save Nancys life. This year, she will spend the festive season with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merry Christmas Nancy! See more

12.01.2022 The bottom line. Near, dry, wet, delayed, and secondary drownings are not medically accepted diagnoses. We urge you to abandon these terms in favor of understanding and communicating drowning as a process that can be mild, moderate, or severe with fatal or nonfatal outcomes. Someone who drowns and survives has suffered a nonfatal drowning.

07.01.2022 Defibrillator map set to save lives! Victorians could help save a life at the click of a button under a new campaign from Ambulance Victoria. Up to 15.000 defi...brillators are believed to be "hidden" in private buildings across the state, but authorities had no way to track them, until now. Homeowners, businesses and schools are being urged to register their defibrillators online to create a map of the state's hidden devices. New smartphone technology will give the public and emergency services access to the map. Heart attack patients have a 62 per cent greater chance of survival if a defibrillator is used. Ambulance Victoria chief executive Associate Professor Tony Walker said the campaign would save lives. "In locations like corporate offices, gyms and bowls clubs across the state, for every lifesaving defibrillator in the community we know about, there are four we don't. he said. "Imagine what the map of Victoria might look like if every defibrillator in the area was registered and could be connected with someone in a life-threatening situation. 02.01.2022 People who receive CPR from a bystander are more than twice as likely to survive cardiac arrest than those forced to wait for emergency medical help, however, 6... out of 10 do not receive the support they need. The missed opportunities have prompted researchers to call for mandatory CPR training so that all adults can become potential lifesavers. A new Monash University analysis of bystander CPR shows the huge benefits of first aid-trained people helping, but also paints a picture of areas where people do not help. Victoria recorded almost the same rates of bystanders administering CPR as the Australian average at 41 per cent, but was well behind the Northern Territory and our New Zealand neighbours, where half got immediate help. In Western Australia and Queensland, the lower density of populations may have contributed to worse figures, with only about 36 per cent getting CPR, according to the research published in Resuscitation. But with the lowest bystander intervention rates mirroring communities with low CPR training, better empowering the community could save thousands of lives, lead researcher Dr Ben Beck said. "There is a clear need for mandatory CPR training in Australia he said. "We know bystander CPR is a crucial component in the chain of survival, and we know from previous research that bystander CPR more than doubles the rate of survival in cardiac arrest. "While bystander CPR rates have improved over the past 10 years, nearly 60 per cent of cardiac arrest patients did not receive bystander CPR." In Germany and Switzerland, adults undergo mandatory first-aid training to gain their drivers licence, while CPR is also taught at school in Denmark. Dr Beck said Australia could adopt either approach, as well as CPR courses for people gaining their Seniors Card. The study of almost 20,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests attended by ambulances in 2015, including more than 5700 in Victoria, found 12 percent survived and were later discharged from hospital. 01.01.2022 Last financial year in Victoria 371 people survived an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Thats a jumbo jet full of Victorians who were clinically dead, who have been resuscitated as a result of the cardiac arrest system of care in this state. #CPRSavesLives #Goodsam #CPR
