25.01.2022 Did you know that Queensland's association legislation has been amended? Queensland's Associations Incorporation Act Changes: No Recycled Coleslaw! After 13 years without change, Queensland's Associations Incorporation Act 1981 has recently undergone a comprehensive review. The resulting Associations Incorporation and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2020 was passed by Queensland Parliament on 16 June 2020. Some of the approved changes bring the Act into line with other simila...r legislation around the country in terms of important fiduciary and other duties of management committee members. In this episode, Michael and Steve have a ball discussing what some of the legislative amendments mean for volunteers in the 23,000 incorporated associations across Queensland. Tune in here or wherever you get your podcasts: https://www.cprgroup.com.au/podcasts Contact CPR Group to discuss training for your board or management committee and to update your constitution to take account of the legislation amendments. We have a team of consultants that specialise in not-for-profit legislation. P: 1800 100 204 E: [email protected]

21.01.2022 Do you know a Council sport and recreation officer who spends most of their Mondays fielding phone calls from irate #sports #club #volunteers about problems with shared facilities? Clubs that share facilities can end up irate about anything from line marking muck-ups, to who moved their Coke cans in the fridge. And while it wasn't Council that marked the lines or moved the Coke, it's often a lack of Council policies or frameworks for facility sharing that allow small problems to grow into big fights. In this article, we look at how Councils can take a leadership role in setting the 'rules of the game' to help fix, or better yet, avoid, conflicts over shared sports facilities.

20.01.2022 "Who am I? Why am I here?": The question of relevance for the 'levels' of sports governance in Australia. In this episode, Michael and Steve shine a spotlight onto the question of relevance of each layer of the federated structure of sport in Australia, highlighting some of the difference between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'. Do we really need state associations for sport and recreation activities that can be organised socially? How do we answer the question about why clu...bs have to pay money 'up the line' to regional, state and national associations? This episode marks the beginning of an exciting research project being conducted by CPR Group to help find answers to these questions. 16.01.2022 Our team loves to provide support to our clients in dealing with day-to-day operational matters and on longer term business and strategic planning initiatives. "Over the last 18 months, I believe the past and current Board have moved to improve all aspects of BMX in Queensland but it hasn't been without a few hurdles along the way. We started off 2020 with six great open days including one ID round before we were on the brink of uncertainty and disappointment that we were un...able to complete all events for the BMX community. Covid saw a complete stop to our sport from racing and training for almost four months. Then with restrictions starting to ease in Queensland round the end of July, the board jumped into action working alongside the CPR Group to get things rolling again. By August club activities and open days started up once again for Queensland in 2020." Tracey Vince, Auscycling Queensland See more

10.01.2022 Museums... Where do you start when faced with an undetermined number of items and few volunteers left to curate a dazzling exhibition everyone wants to attend? Strategic planning is vital to transition community museums to a new era with a new manageable approach, where resources and costs are allocated commensurate with likely visitation and professionally assessed object significance. ... Strategic planning bridges the gap between vision and action, and utilises prioritisation to ensure that short term actions culminate in long term outcomes. For community museums, strategic planning is the key to ensuring that amongst the mind numbing prospect of dealing with a possible >30,000 objects, the right thing is done first, and progress on what could be a long but fruitful journey towards an attractive visitor experience in parallel with tactical heritage conservation is actually achieved. 03.01.2022 Written by Sally Kirkwood, Committee Member Towers Jockey Club: CPR Group is the first phone call we made many moons ago to say ummmmmm hello we need help to grow and develop our club, can you help us? They are the team of professionals that helped nurture, encourage and steer our ideas for the club and produce them into our strategic plan. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the ever fabulous Melissa Driscoll and trusted her advice and knowledge, even when she busted open... the coloured pencils and got the committee to draw their visions like we were back in primary school, only we didn’t eat the glue!! Our strategic plan is one of the most important documents that we have created. It gives us the ability to share our visions and plans in a highly visual and stimulating document that has grabbed people’s attention and created much talk and excitement. The strategic plan also highlights just how important the TJC is to our town and region not only for the horse racing but for the events and social outings for our community. Mel and CPR Group have vast experience working with regional and rural clubs and truly understand the importance of the clubs roles in these communities. They also understand how clubs work, along with working with volunteers and non for profit organisations. The strategic plan is our first step to make The TJC of Tomorrow a reality. Our next step was to have our project shovel ready and able to pounce when the appropriate rounds of funding became available. This, my friends is a BUTT load of work and there is a lot that goes into writing a grant to make it stand out from the rest. Lucky for us, Melissa is the BEST grant writer in the world. So much so, that if she ever has a son his name will be Grant Driscoll, for sure. CPR Group provides relevant and practical plans to support funding applications, including feasibility studies, business cases and plans, cost-benefit analyses along with well-researched supporting documentation. #towersjockeyclub #strategicplan #consultants #clubs #council #grants #grantwriting

01.01.2022 PODCAST: Club Planning: It's better to come up short on your way to greatness, than to succeed on your way to mediocrity. In this episode of Basket Case Clubs, Michael and Steve simplify the process of preparing a strategic plan. The examples you'll find by Googling a 'sports club strategic plan template' will give you a place to write down some actions, but they won't inspire transformational improvements. A strategic plan should inspire! And for inspiration, you need 'emot...ional juice'. The fun of strategic planning is about connecting with why people join, and more importantly, what keeps them coming back. And then, forget SMART objectives - think big!
