25.01.2022 Well worth a look

24.01.2022 FYI Also a timely reminder, take your time when launching boats into the water. Take your time and ignore the "i can do better than you" onlookers. Slow and steady is better than fast and underwater!!

23.01.2022 Given the hard lockdown imposed on Metro Melbourne we did well on Saturday the 11th of July to have 11 local participants to plant 150 plants along the cliff top path going from the Orana camp ground past the steps next to Pea Creek and on to the steps at the eastern end of Undertow Bay. We continued the planting already established at the June working bee installing sturdier wallaby guards to protect Banksia and Manna Gum seedlings from grazers. Some local residents have continued this work in the Undertow Bay Gully with a further 150 plants where some of last year’s plantings died due to the dry conditions.

23.01.2022 YES we do have a working bee tomorrow. Please read pinned post for Covid19 volunteer guidlines. For the moment due to metro melb in lockdown, can only have volunteers who are not from a lockdown zone. Not our rules. If you are local come down. MEET AT WLSC CARPARK 9AM TOMORROW

23.01.2022 Reminder...WORKING BEE TOMORROW, for all regionally living people. Masks are a must, and your own gloves.

22.01.2022 Top 10 plants that date your garden and create ecological dead zones. You have all seen them, you may even have some, there are many common garden escapees tha...t become problematic weeds in our native environment. The good news is that there are better alternatives, native, indigenous, and ecologically sound species that will give your garden an updated and timeless look. Click the link below for a great blog post from Stagg Design Landscape Architecture that talks about the countless people-hours and tax payer dollars put into controlling garden escapee weeds in our native bushland, wetlands, creek lines, grasslands etc. and how the survival traits of these plants are what makes them such a big problem in our native environment. We can support our precious and unique Australian birds, animals, and pollinators by making better choices for our gardens. For every weedy exotic plant you have in your garden, there is an indigenous or native and ecologically sound alternative that will give your garden an updated and timeless look. https://staggdla.com//top-10-plants-that-date-your-garden- See more

22.01.2022 October’s working bees were split into two locations: Working bee 1:- involved four volunteers walking west from Wilson’s Road to Harmers Haven pulling sea spurge as they walked. Happily only a few hot spots were found; evidence that our contractor’s and volunteers’ work over the years has restored a significant amount of indigenous dune habitat. Working bee 2:- involved 9 volunteers at the upper reserve at Undertow Bay undertaking the removal of hard rubbish from an illegal camp site, and carrying out english broom and sweet pittosporum removal. But for COVID restrictions, this should have been done during our April and May working bees. There is still more woody weed to remove from this site in future working bees.

20.01.2022 COVID19 Safe Working Procedures for Volunteer Groups by Bass Coast Shire

20.01.2022 CPRRA has invited candidates for the upcoming Bass Coast Council Election to respond to six questions that it believes are important for the future of Cape Paterson. The invitees included candidates for all three Wards, even though we will, of course, be voting only for the Bunurong Ward. In the first instalment, we have published the answers of the four candidates for Bunurong Ward who took the time to respond, on our website at: www.capepaterson.asn.au/news. Shortly we will... publish the responses of candidates for other Wards so that you might become aware of the views held in those Wards. According the the Council’s timetable, voting packages are being posted over the period 6-8 October. Please remember that, on the voting form, all candidates for the Bunurong Ward should be given a number to indicate your preference from 1-5, as you would do in State and Federal elections. We hope the information we have gathered can inform your voting decision.

19.01.2022 When a working bee is not a working bee, but stuff gets done, before lockdown https://capepaterson.asn.au//complimentary-working-bee-au/

19.01.2022 Not Cape, but its another area i know some of our members have been invested in over the years.

19.01.2022 Over the last few months small groups of dedicated local volunteers have spent many hours planting the remaining indigenous seedlings in the Undertow Bay coastal reserve. Today’s Covid-safe working bee, our last for 2020, was revisiting the Cassia Street reserve to remove any weeds and rubbish that has accumulated over the past couple of years. 13 eager volunteers met at the Wonthaggi Lifesaving Club car park and split into small groups before heading to the reserve. ... It was great to welcome our Melbourne cohort who could now travel to Cape Paterson after 4 months of Covid-19 lockdown. Good rainfall over winter/spring has produced excellent growing conditions for the many indigenous plants that we have put in this reserve over the years. However it also meant that woody weed seedlings (sweet pittosporum and mirror bush) also flourished. So there was plenty of weeding for our enthusiastic workers. We removed a sprawling patch of nasturtiums, dug out a number of blackberry patches and attacked numerous other exotic weeds. Once again, Leone produced a superb morning tea in sunshine and a yummy bbq lunch. Thanks everyone for your efforts in what has proven to be a very difficult year.

05.01.2022 The invasive weed pictured here is Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus L. agg). Blackberry poses large environmental and agricultural threats including loss of biodive...rsity, erosion, decreased land productivity and it even provides harbour for pest animal species such as rabbits. Blackberry begins to grow and fruit between December through to April, this is great time to control the blackberries, the earlier during its growth phase the better, to prevent seed being spread through different fauna who may feed on the fruit. For further information on Blackberry and various ways to control it visit https://agriculture.vic.gov.au///priority-weeds/blackberry or contact us @ [email protected]

05.01.2022 We’re pleased to say that we are resuming our working bees this coming Saturday. Unfortunately our Melbourne based members won’t be able to join us due to the lockdown. We will be consolidating the work already done earlier this year removing broom and other weeds at the upper reserve at Undertow Bay. If numbers are greater than 10 volunteers, we may send a contingent off to do sea spurging east of the bridge at Harmers Haven. The weather is predicted to be cool with possible... showers. We recommend wearing sturdy footwear and clothing. In the COVID era we also require participants to wear masks and to please bring your own gloves. We’ll provide the relevant tools and a morning tea. Meet as usual outside the Wonthaggi Life Saving Club at 9am Saturday the 10th of October.
