25.01.2022 The CPSU is committed to diversity and inclusion in all its forms, including cultural & linguistic diversity (CALD) in our member, delegate & representative str...uctures. We want to create avenues for members of CALD backgrounds to play a more active representative role in shaping our advocacy on these issues and improving CALD representation in our union. If you’re interested in having a say or hearing from fellow CALD members please join here -> https://www.cpsu.org.au/c/cultural-and-linguistic-diversity

24.01.2022 Members from around the country are expressing their support and solidarity with our South Australian colleagues as you work through the COVID lockdown currently in place. We are with you! There are positive developments, with the South Australian Premier announcing that restrictions will be eased from midnight on Saturday, with the stay at home order being lifted. However, Services Australia’s haphazard and conflicting decisions (in particular to keep virtually all staff at... work in workplaces) need to be called out. CPSU will not be letting this drop. This could happen again in any state or territory and we need to plan on that basis. We'll have more on this next week. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend everyone.

24.01.2022 Did you hear Labor and crossbench MPs speaking up in support of you on the floor of our federal parliament? Peta Murphy, herself a proud CPSU member, was one of a number of MPs who acknowledged and thanked you for your hard work, particularly during the COVID pandemic. The speech was part of the debate of the Services Australia governance bill, arising out of the change to establish Services Australia as an executive agency on 1 February 2020.... The support of these MPs is well-deserved and comes after lobbying, educating, and campaigning by CPSU members and delegates from Services Australia. We thank Peta for her support for our members and their work.

23.01.2022 As we’re sure you are aware, significant changes to the social security system are about to be implemented. We know that you’ve been working harder than ever to support the community during the pandemic. We also know that many of our members are concerned about the impact of these changes on the community and on your working lives. Remember, your union is here for you.... Your CPSU representatives can provide expert advice, support, and assistance. Don’t hesitate to get in touch speak with your workplace delegate or call 1300 137 636 to speak with our Member Service Centre. We have raised our concerns about the potential increased risk to workers based on these legislative changes and Services Australia has agreed to undertake an analysis of risk. There are 2 important steps you can take to ensure appropriate control measures are in place: 1. Complete an incident report each and every time you are required to deal with customer aggression whether in face, on the phone, or online; and 2. Report concerns to your union. We will be sending out a quick customer temperature check survey to you once the changes have taken effect. This information is critical to identify any significant increase in customer aggression and work together with Services Australia to improve systems to protect your psychological wellbeing at work.

23.01.2022 Services Australia reverse course on South Australian staff working from home. After a day of confusion among senior managers in Services Australia, the organisation has reversed course. South Australian staff, except those who are in the high risk category are being required to go to work. Services Australia is relying on provisions in the South Australian Stay at Home Order that relate to workers who are essential to the continuing operation of organisations that provide ur...gent services necessary for the health and safety of persons to let groups make their own decisions about whether or not workers should work from home. We understand this means workers in Debt and Business Integrity, Child Support, Smart Centres and many others, all being required to continue attending for work (except those in the high risk category). This is occurring despite workers in all these units demonstrating in the Melbourne lockdown that their work can be done effectively from home and without impacting the continuing operation of Services Australia. We know that members accept that services to vulnerable members of the Australian community must be maintained. Doing so requires Services Centres to be open, other channels to continue operations and processing work to continue. Allowing South Australian staff to do that work from home, except where it is not possible such as Service Centres, protects workers and helps the whole South Australian community achieve the circuit breaker they are looking for. CPSU is writing to the CEO and will update members on the legal and industrial options tomorrow Friday 20 November.

23.01.2022 "Morrison government must prepare to spend even more and deal with high levels of unemployment for many years" Creating new permanent jobs in Services Australia is a simple and effective way for the government to: - Create new jobs... - Aid economic recovery, and - Provide support to large numbers of newly unemployed people. Morrison government must prepare to spend even more and deal with high levels of unemployment for many years

22.01.2022 The federal government has just announced a new wages policy for APS employees. The new policy will not apply to existing APS agency agreements and determinations. It applies to new enterprise agreements and determinations. In Services Australia, the pay increases of 2% in May 2021, Nov 20201 and Nov 2022 will still apply. WHAT IS THE NEW POLICY?... Under the new policy, instead of the 2% per annum cap on pay increases, APS pay increases will be tied to private sector wage increase rates. This means each annual APS pay increase will be capped at the annual seasonally adjusted Wage Price Index (WPI) for the private sector, for the most recently published June quarter. These figures are released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Currently, this rate is 1.7%. This is a time where the Government should be leading the way on creating jobs and delivering strong wage outcomes for workers. In introducing this new policy, the Coalition Government has shown its disregard for the growing problem of wage stagnation in Australia and the need to kickstart the economy. Rather than being a model employer and driving broader economic growth by improving public sector workers’ wages, this government has chosen to lock APS employees into a race to the bottom on wages with the private sector. It’s bad for the economy, bad for workers, and a slap in the face for all of you who have stepped up to meet incredible challenges this year. It also creates significant uncertainty for APS employees who will be asked to make decisions about future APS enterprise agreements and determinations without knowing what the Wage Price Index will be at the point wage increases fall due. What does this mean in Services Australia? You will still receive your pay rises under the current determination: 2% paid from May 2021 2% paid from November 2021 2% paid from November 2022 After those pay rises have been received, you will be subject to the new policy and we will need to be organised and all working together for the tough fight to get the pay and conditions you deserve.

22.01.2022 There are calls for a consistent framework across government agencies in assisting traumatised people. Ensuring government services support people affected by trauma requires those agencies to be adequately staffed by well trained workers in secure jobs.

22.01.2022 Brian Mitchell is another Labor MP who has acknowledged the hard work that Services Australia workers, like you, do every day for our community. The support of these MPs is well-deserved and comes after lobbying, educating, and campaigning by CPSU members and delegates from Services Australia. We thank Brian for his support for our members and their work.

22.01.2022 It’s dangerous. It’s extreme. It’s the Morrison Government’s latest attack on working people. Add your name here to stand against the dangerous IR omnibus bill: https://utm.guru/ucXwt

22.01.2022 The CPSU micromanagement survey is now open for all Services Australia workers. TAKE THE SURVEY NOW: https://survey.websurveycreator.com/s/CPSU_MM2020 Our campaign will tackle micromanagement issues that affect your working lives and your ability to deliver for the community. The first step is for as many workers as possible to complete this survey to identify your key issues.... We know that micromanagement takes many forms and affects different workstreams differently. From excessive monitoring, restrictive KPIs, inflexible scheduling and reporting, or other forms of micromanagement your union’s campaign will bring together Services Australia staff around the country to address your key issues. The survey is open to all staff, including those on labour hire contracts. Make sure you don’t miss out on your chance have your say and get involved.

20.01.2022 "Overwhelmingly, Australia’s leading economists want the budget to boost social housing and the JobSeeker unemployment benefit rather than bring forward personal income tax cuts."

20.01.2022 "Prime Minister Scott Morrison has denied personal responsibility for the robodebt disaster, which has resulted in a $1.2 billion class action settlement. Mr Morrison was social services minister when the unlawful scheme was conceived and touted the billions of dollars it was supposed to rake in during his time as treasurer. He continued the welfare debt recovery program as prime minister and pinned a promised return to surplus on its projected windfall."

20.01.2022 Federal Labor MP Clare O’Neil has acknowledged your hard work, and highlighted the importance of government support for you and the work you do. The support of these MPs is well-deserved and comes after lobbying, educating, and campaigning by CPSU members and delegates from Services Australia. We thank Clare for her support for our members and their work.

07.01.2022 "The federal government has published its response to a report prepared by a committee looking into Centrelink's compliance program, the automation of which was colloquially known as robo-debt, supporting only "in-principle" one of the five recommendations that were made."

07.01.2022 Did you know? Because workplaces haven’t tackled mental health like other health and safety issues, workplace mental health injuries are now the fastest growing type of workplace injury in Australia. Find out more: www.mindyourhead.org.au

07.01.2022 Terri Butler is another Labor MP who recently acknowledged and thanked you for your hard work on the floor of our federal parliament. The support of these MPs is well-deserved and comes after lobbying, educating, and campaigning by CPSU members and delegates from Services Australia. We thank Terri for her support for our members and their work.

06.01.2022 CPSU delegates from Services Australia have begun meeting with MPs to talk about the issues facing you at work and the support you need to deliver the services our community relies on. Last week, a delegation of CPSU representatives met with Tony Burke, Manager of Opposition Business and member for Watson in NSW. Your representatives spoke about the support you have provided during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of the government-imposed pay freeze, the problems associated... with outsourcing and insecure employment, and made the case for more permanent staff in Services Australia. They told powerful and emotional stories about the distress expressed by customers and how your work has helped provide certainty and safety to people in need. With more meetings planned with politicians from across the political spectrum, your stories are helping to build a greater understanding of the issues, and support for the work you do. We know that the pay freeze has been a key concern for members, and the stories you have told us about the impact on you and your families have been powerful. If you haven’t already provided your message to Minister Morton about the impact of the pay freeze on you and your family, please do so here: https://www.cpsu.org.au/content/messages-minister-morton

05.01.2022 CPSU MEDIA RELEASE on social security changes.

05.01.2022 The APSC has released updated guidance on social media use by APS employees. The new policy represents a better and more nuanced approach to the previous APS guidance, however, there are still risks and pitfalls that CPSU members should be aware of. Union representatives will continue discussions to make sure that members’ rights to participate online are upheld and respected.

05.01.2022 "it takes a twisted kind of logic to think a government should purposefully hurt public sector workers just because those in the private sector are suffering."

04.01.2022 "The planned reduction to the supplement in two weeks before it’s removed entirely after Christmas would reduce the size of the economy by $31.3bn and cost the equivalent of 145,000 full-time jobs over two years"

03.01.2022 This week, CPSU members in WA met with Ben Morton MP, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service to discuss important issues impacting our pub...lic service ahead of the Federal Budget.
