21.01.2022 Last night we held our second practice of the year. Once again we were locked out of our practice hall which makes things a bit difficult! It was a hot summer night so playing outside, except for the mosquitoes, was quite pleasant. Fortunately mosquitoes aren’t a vector for COVID 19! In our quest for improvement we have decided to record every second practice. This clip is a warm up set before the practice proper and before we had completed tuning. Only a third of our pipers and drummers are playing in this clip. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zrqvs07rf0xdf47/210118%20STB.mov

19.01.2022 One of the advantages of practicing in the park is you can bring your dog. She let us know in no uncertain terms whether we were playing well or not! (photographs by Claire Perry)

19.01.2022 It’s been 259 days (8 months and 16 days) since our last public performance. The drought was broken today with Pipes in the Park @ Braidwood. It was a lovely day playing under a big old tree to a small but appreciative audience. We were a long way from our best, but how can you be at your best with such a long layoff? For us it was just great to be able to play again. Some cobwebs were blown away, and gremlins were hit for six. Today is day one of our quest to compete at Square Day, Palmerston North, New Zealand in December 2021. We are out and about again rising from the ashes of the New Years fires and the COVID 19 pestilence. (Photographs by Claire Perry)

15.01.2022 It is my very sad duty to inform the pipe band world that our Drum Sergeant Jon Jone’s wife Susan died earlier this afternoon after a battle for some months with leukaemia. Jon is with family at the moment and would like to be left alone for a while. Our thoughts are with Jon at this tragic time. Graham Durant-Law Pipe Major

12.01.2022 Bands have a long history in Queanbeyan with The Oddfellows having a brass band in 1857. There was a town band in 1926 which later became the Queanbeyan Municip...al Band and later the Queanbeyan RSL Band. The wooden rotunda was pulled down in the late 1920’s. In 1939 the Queanbeyan Municipal Council called for tenders to erect a reinforced band rotunda. The NSW Government allocated 3,000 pounds and the Council borrowed 1,000 pounds to erect a new wire fence around the perimeter of the Park, creation of a cycling track and the building of a new bandstand. The works would also lead to the renovation of the tennis courts and pavilion. Tourists were banned from camping in the Park and moved to a temporary location below the weir which is still in existence. The bandstand was completed in December 1939 on the site near Lowe Street. There are hardly any reports of it being used, even by the municipal band. It has stood unused and led to a proposal to remove the rotunda in 2011 after a report to the Queanbeyan City Council. Community objections to the proposal led to the retention of the band shell. Pictured: the Park with the rotunda in the background (circa 1908) See more

08.01.2022 The band played for the Australia Day Citizen Ceremony in Queanbeyan this afternoon in steamy damp conditions. It was good to have a public gig for a change. We wore our new hot weather/dress down/busking uniform for only the second time because the forecast was for very hot inclement weather. We were complimented on our attire. This photograph shows how smart it looks.

08.01.2022 ONLY 7 DAYS BEFORE ENTRIES CLOSE. The best prizes on offer to date in any on line competition. Total prize pool combined in excess AUD5K. Every competitor will ...receive a critic sheet for their age division tune as well as their 2/4 March wether they qualify or not. Further infomation on : [email protected]

07.01.2022 It is with deep regret that I inform the pipe band community of the passing of our former Pipe Major Robbie Robertson. I will be representing the band and playing at his funeral next Thursday 26 November at Norwood Park at 09:00 am. Pipe Major Graham Durant-Law

05.01.2022 The funeral service for Jon Jones wife Susan will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Saint Andrew at 1pm next Tuesday 9 February. Attending City of Queanbeyan Pipes and Drums members will wear competition uniform. Only the Pipe Major will be playing at the service. Susan’s wish was please wear cheery colours, not black. Kilts and tartans would be wonderful. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Leukaemia Foundation.

04.01.2022 Our former pipe major Robert Robertson, who sadly passed away on 19 November, as a 19 year old piper in the Scots Guards.
