Scott Morrison is cutting JobKeeper t...o fund an early tax cut for Clive Palmer. This is trickle-down brutality. With so many businesses struggling, unemployment still through the roof and Victoria under lockdown, we can’t afford to cut JobKeeper. If the money is there to give millionaires an early tax cut, then the money’s there to keep JobKeeper going in the middle of a recession. The Senate can stop the JobKeeper cuts. The Greens will move to block the cuts when Parliament resumes next week.

Today I'll introduce my Banning Dirty ...Donations Bill to stop all political donations from industries known to have a corrupting influence on democracy: the mining, banking, gambling, alcohol, pharmacaeutical, defence, tobacco and property development industries. It will also cap all other donations from any body or individual to no more than $3,000 per three-year term.

Today I met with the Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union to discuss reform options and to thank their members for the critical care they continue to provide to some of Australia's most vulnerable people. The Greens have called for the Royal Commission into Aged Care to examine the impact of profit-making corporations on the quality of aged care services. We'll keep fighting for greater support, higher wages and more secure jobs in the care sector, and paid pandemic leave for carers to ensure residents and staff are protected.

13.01.2022 Srsly, this environmental lawyer cannot handle any more mansplaining about how tough our environmental laws are those same laws that dont require the climat...e impacts of coal mines to be assessed. This morning the Senate debated my bill to keep Galilee coal in the ground no Adani, no Clive Palmer, no new thermal coal. Instead we can ensure long-term jobs for those communities which safeguard our climate. Both the government and Labor oppose my bill. Yet more sad proof of both big political parties standing with multinational coal corporates, not communities. Donations work: to put corporate donor interests ahead of people and nature!

05.01.2022 Our hearts break for the bushfire tragedy that our nation has endured this summer. Today in parliament in my first speech as Greens leader in the Senate I share...d the Greens deepest condolences for those who have lost their lives, for the wildlife killed, the homes lost, the communities shattered - and the heroism of our heroic firefighting and emergency services personnel. But the best way to honour those losses is for parliament to plan a transition away from the fossil fuels that are turbo-charging these fires. Communities are anxious and they are rightfully angry. They are struggling with what the climate emergency means for them and their future, and they are feeling despair at the government's inaction and lack of compassion. We need urgent climate action now to reduce emissions and create a clean, job-rich future that keeps our loved ones and nature safe. And we Greens will fight to make sure that donations from Big Coal, Oil and Gas stop getting in the way.

There are 1.3 million people looking for work and only 129,000 vacancies. It's time for the Government to simply ensure that income support payments are above the poverty line.

02.01.2022 The governments response to the pandemic has supercharged gender inequality. 55% of job losses resulting from the pandemic have been women. Women who r...etained their jobs have experienced a significantly bigger decrease in work hours compared to men. Women are particularly vulnerable to housing insecurity, and remain at greater risk of domestic and family violence.
