24.01.2022 People across the US all came up with this bright idea at the same time!

23.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY Sitting down with a cuppa and flicking through this weeks catalogues seems innocent enough doesn’t it? But have you ever stopped to think... of the impact of all those catalogues clogging up your mailbox? Out of the 8 billion articles of junk mail produced every year in Australia, it’s estimated that only 20% of them are read. We’d like to think the remaining 80% go into recycling bins, however an even better solution for our environment is not to have the junk mail in the first place! Losing over 100 million trees (our best carbon storage mechanisms) each year is a high price to pay for something we can read online if and when we choose to. How can you help put an end to junk mail? Say no to junk mail: get a 'No Junk Mail' sticker or sign (from your local hardware store) and put it on your letterbox. You can request a free No Advertising Material" sticker from the Distribution Standards Board by calling 1800 676 136 Register for online catalogues with your favourite stores Say ‘no thank you’ to catalogues handed out in stores Every small step counts and will help to ensure future generations have a healthy and green planet to live on

23.01.2022 Illegal dumping and littering is a concern across the Gladstone Region but we can all work together to keep our region beautiful. See it, report it, stop it. Contact Council to dob in a dumper on 4970 0700 .gladstone.qld.gov.au/illegal-dumping

20.01.2022 Clothing production has DOUBLED in just 15 years as brands pump out cheaper clothes faster than ever to try to keep up with our insatiable appetite for fashion.... Our exploding consumption is pushing our planet to its limits: More greenhouse gases, hazardous chemicals and clothing waste are depleting our resources at an unsustainable level. We’ve broken it down step-by-step, but exposing the problem isn’t enough. From poor quality clothing, to underpaid workers, to inefficient recycling systems, the fast fashion industry is broken. Manufacturers still have a LOT to work on, so your best bet is to not participate! Stay out of the cycle for as long as you can by repairing and reinventing your clothes, wearing them longer, and shopping secondhand. Fast fashion is getting faster, so let’s help slow the cycle by choosing not to engage! Greenpeace /EPA

19.01.2022 A date in a dumpsite. A glimpse of the future? Majority of the waste in South East Asian countries goes straight to landfills due to lack of segregation at sour...ce and adequate waste management infrastructure. This couple took awareness to the next level by having a lunch date in the landscapes of future. Let us prevent this from happening. #wedontdeservethisplanet

18.01.2022 A new home for under 300 bucks AND it's sustainable? Sign us up!

18.01.2022 This food wrap breaks down in less than 180 days when composted! It's made from plants, keeps food fresh and most importantly, is completely plastic-free. It breaks down into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass, NOT microplastics! Suck on that, plastic! Seed & Sprout

17.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY Sitting down with a cuppa and flicking through this weeks catalogues seems innocent enough doesn’t it? 16.01.2022 This inventor uses waste from a fish processing plant to make organic, compostable ‘plastic’

16.01.2022 Say bye bye plastic straws!

16.01.2022 FINALLY a single-use bottle that actually makes sense! As soon as your drink is finished, the bottle starts to break down. And because it's made from all natural materials, you can even EAT IT!

13.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY Own a dog? Here’s how you can be a more sustainable pet owner... Instead of spending money on expensive toys that look pretty and a...re torn to shreds in minutes try reusing some of your trash at home like old milk bottles and plastic plant pots. Use poo bags that have the official Australian home compostable label and dispose of them correctly in a general waste bin. Or if you're at home simply flush your dogs poo down the loo! If your furry friend requires grooming every now and then don’t forget to pop their hair in the compost bin for a bit of extra nitrogen. When you’re purchasing packaged foods look for better packaging options like tins over sachets. Ask your local butcher for some offcuts. When it comes to feeding your pooch the most sustainable meat is kangaroo. And don’t forget that your best friend is great at eating your leftovers! Make them a new bed out of some old blankets, simply cut them to size or use old clothes to make a new cushion cover. We promise they’ll prefer it over a brand new bed as it will smell like you!

13.01.2022 SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY Did you know that more than 90% of the components found in a mobile phone can be recycled, yet there are around 23 million of them stored... unused in cupboards and drawers around Australia? That’s the equivalent of 2,450 tonnes of metals, minerals, plastic and glass things that the planet desperately needs us to recycle! If they were all recycled, the greenhouse benefits created would be equal to planting 114,000 trees and the aluminium recovered would be enough to make 1.8 million cans. Mobiles should never be thrown in your wheelie bin They are not biodegradable, and may contain some potentially environmentally hazardous material. So where do I recycle my old mobiles, we hear you ask It’s easy! Just drop them off at Livingstone Shire Council’s Customer Service Centre, in Normanby Street, Yeppoon or at the Yeppoon Landfill, Corner Neil's Road and Yeppoon Road

That's where FabBRICKS comes in, using... discarded clothing and other trashed textiles to create eco-friendly and aesthetic building materials. 08.01.2022 Hi all, We're doing a few monitoring activities at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility tomorrow between 10am and 2pm to fulfil government obligation...s. The landfill will still be open, but it's likely there will be some delays and disruptions, and you could be asked to wait in your vehicle for up to 30 minutes. Hopefully this won't cause too much of an inconvenience, but you may want to plan around it if you can.

06.01.2022 Have you heard the joke about the steel rods? No? Let metal you... In all seriousness, what’s not a joke is putting steel in your kerbside wheelie bin, like the... ones in this photograph! These items jam the hopper in the truck and can cause significant amounts of damage to the truck as well as disruptions in your collection service Steel items can be disposed of for FREE at the landfill and transfer stations. Also, we did steel that joke

01.01.2022 This is what happens when you improperly recycle plastic bags! They get tangled up and jam the waste sorting machine, causing hell for the workers who have to r...emove the bags by hand every single day! Most single-use plastic bags are made from high-density polyethylene (#2 symbol) or low-density polyethylene (#4 symbol). Very few curbside recycling programs accept plastic bags, so you could accidentally end up doing more harm than good! You may have to find a store drop-off that accepts plastic bags, so check with the curbside program in your area. And better yet, let's ditch these troublemakers for good! @wastemanagement via IG
