25.01.2022 Im proud to have worked with our Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP and our fantastic Chief Health Officer every day for 226 days to put your health first. That will always be the case. For as long as it takes.

24.01.2022 Violence against women has no place in Qld and every one of us has a role to play in ending it within our community. 2020 presented even more challenges for wom...en when it came to DV with almost 70% of reported perpetrators using COVID-19 to stop their partner leaving home Today marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism to raise awareness of gender-based violence. The Palaszczuk Government has provided over $500M to tackle Domestic and Family Violence and we will continue our fight to #endDV The Official 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign

22.01.2022 We’ve got fantastic boating, fishing, snorkelling and diving off the Central Queensland coast, which is why we’re investing $2 million for upgrades at Rosslyn B...ay Boat Harbour. This means jobs for tradies, jobs in hospitality and jobs in tourism. Our strong health response to COVID-19 has allowed us to get on with the job of delivering Queensland’s plan for economic recovery. 22.01.2022 While we’re easing restrictions thanks to our strong health response, other parts of the world are again shutting down. The UK, France, Germany and Northern Ire...land are ramping up restrictions, including limiting the number of people at gatherings and closing gyms, pubs and restaurants. Our lifting of restrictions means young people can dance at their formals, up to 40 people at a time can dance at weddings and residents of aged-care facilities and nursing homes can head out to the beach or bingo. Queensland is on the road to recovery and we have a plan to keep Queenslanders safe and in jobs. #qldjobs

21.01.2022 There is no death tax. Clive Palmer is lying to you to get Deb Frecklington elected. This is a man who is trying to buy this election for Deb Frecklington beca...use he wants the borders forced open before it’s safe to do so. We can’t risk Deb Frecklington’s plan to cut, sack, sell. A vote for anyone other than Annastacia Palaszczuk will elect an LNP government. Don’t listen to Clive Palmer’s lies.

16.01.2022 Tonight something amazing happened. Thanks to the tireless work of the QSEC committee, and a number of volunteer members, QSEC voted to move from an Incorporate...d Association to a Company Limited by Guarantee... As we work our way through the paperwork, our members will transition to a new, more mature organisation, with a strong vision for the future of social enterprise in Queensland. Thanks to those who witnessed this momentous occassion. We are coming of age.

16.01.2022 Happy Friday Queensland. What local businesses are you going to support this weekend?

16.01.2022 Very happy to confirm this morning that weve done our 1 millionth COVID-19 test! Massive thanks to everyone whos come out and get tested, keep up the great work Queenslanders.

16.01.2022 Its welcome news that 25 per cent of all PPE bought by the Queensland Government will be made in Queensland, and were setting up a new PPE testing facility a...t Meadowbrook. Were making the things Queenslanders need and that means PPE for our frontline health and essential workers, including face masks, hand sanitiser and ventilators. Aspen Medical is a Brisbane-based manufacturing company that has been able to ramp up mask production to two million a month with support from the Palaszczuk Government. Theyll be able to increase that to four million masks a month by mid-October, further boosting Queenslands mask stocks. And theyll expand to produce gowns, booties, caps, and other PPE equipment.

14.01.2022 Hi all just a quick note to let everyone know that I am now back in Gladstone. While I was recovering in Brisbane I was fortunate to get sworn in as Minister, a...nd on Tuesday sworn in as the Member for Gladstone. Starting the recovery now at home and taking it easy and doing everything that the Neurosurgeon and physio tell me (always a challenge). Huge thanks to everyone for your supportive posts and calls, it really meant a lot Big shout out to my amazing friends and family and especially to my awesome wife Theresa Butcher who was my rock. I will only be popping into the electorate office every now and then during this time but hoping to be cleared to return to full Ministerial Duties and Electorate responsibilities after Dr check up on 10th December. Remember look after your backs people, you only have one See more

14.01.2022 Thank you for your support, Cooper. Today Im excited to introduce you to the incredible Jonty Bush, Labors new candidate at the state election.

14.01.2022 BREAKING: The Chief Health Officer has given the all-clear to ease some restrictions early thanks to the strong health response of Queenslanders. From 4pm today..., Friday October 16: - Up to 40 people can dance at weddings with a COVID Safe Plan - Dancing will be permitted at Year 12 school formals - Gatherings of 40 people will be allowed in homes and public places - Outings from aged care facilities can resume Together we have successfully suppressed our most recent outbreak with barely a handful of COVID cases across the state. Queenslanders have done a great job of fighting this virus and deserve to have restrictions lifted as soon as it’s safe to do so. Our strong health response means we can get on with Queensland’s economic recovery plan. It’s still incredibly important to follow the health advice if you’re unwell, stay home and get tested. #covid19

13.01.2022 2 new cases this morning, bringing our total number of confirmed cases up to 1,145. Both new cases are from West Moreton and are close contacts of previous cas...es. They were both in quarantine, where they tested positive. Keep up the good work Queenslanders, remember to keep up social distancing and to stay home if youre unwell.

13.01.2022 A really important message from the Chief Health Officer: Were now eight months in. Were learning a lot more. Were learning that this is not a disease of th...e respiratory system. That might be how its transmitted in the main, but its not flu. It affects every single cell in the body and leaves long-lasting problems for different organs in the body, whether that be the heart, the kidneys, the brain, the lungs. So, it is really important that we minimise the number of people who get this disease. Not just the number who are going to die from it, but the number who get it. That is really, really important. And thats why we have the very strict protocols that we have in Queensland for quarantine. This is about people not getting this disease. That is really important.

12.01.2022 Share your gratitude. Try sharing something you are grateful for in conversation. Not only will you feel good, but youll share your positivity with others too. Visit qld.gov.au/mentalwellbeing for ideas and inspiration.

12.01.2022 Happy Friday Queensland, no new cases this morning! Total number of confirmed cases remains at 1,150. Great job Queensland, keep up the social distancing and get tested if youre unwell.

10.01.2022 Unless youve experienced breast cancer, its likely that youve never seen one of these before! These bright and patterned bundles are breast cushions! Breast... cushions are specially designed crescent-shaped cushions that are often used during recovery. People recovering from surgery find that these cushions help them sit, sleep, and rest more comfortably, they also prevent injury that can occur while walking or wearing a seatbelt. McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Sally Haley, recently received a delivery of handmade breast cushions from the lovely team at the Zonta Club of Gladstone.

08.01.2022 Kate Jones has always been a great friend to Central Queensland. She is someone Ive worked closely with ever since I was elected and someone Ive always been a...ble to rely on to advocate for our region in cabinet. Shes announced today that she wont be contesting the next election after a groundbreaking political career. Im personally very sorry to see her go but its been an absolute privilege working alongside her. All the best for the future Kate.

08.01.2022 After more than 12 years in Parliament, today I have announced that I will not recontest the seat of Cooper at the next state election. My time as a Member of ...Parliament has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Its been a tough decision. But with two beautiful young children and a family at home, I have plenty to look forward to in the future. To the people of Cooper thank you for putting your trust in me. I hope Ive done you proud. It has been a great privilege to have been part of the Palaszczuk Government and I will be working hard to see the Premier and Labor re-elected on October 31. I will also continue to do all I can to represent the people of Cooper right up to election.

08.01.2022 Clinical Nurse Nicole truly enjoys being able to complete the cycle of care in her role with our Blood Borne Virus and Sexual Health Service. This weeks #Healt...hHero joined the sexual health service in March this year after 6 years as a theatre nurse and is relishing the rapport building and trust formation she now gets with her patients. In the theatres I was a scrub nurse and worked in a team that organised all the equipment for surgeons. In sexual health I get lots of one-on-one patient contact; its so satisfying that I can complete the healthcare circle, performing sexual health assessments, providing treatment and then seeing patients again when the time comes for a test of cure. I feel quite privileged talking to my patients about sex and STIs. Its such a private and taboo topic but in the end, sexual health screening is so important, especially when something so easily tested and treated, like chlamydia, can have such detrimental effects on a persons health, such as infertility." Many of our community members benefit from Nicoles expertise before they even set foot in the clinic. Nicole and the team in Sexual Health are extremely active in community engagement and health promotion, and make regular appearances in schools and correctional facilities across the region, as well as being active on social media. In July 2020 Nicoles work on the rise of gonorrhoea was published in the Central Queensland and Central West Public Health Bulletin. Nicole truly is a #HealthHero, providing great care for Central Queenslanders. #HealthHero #GreatCare #SexualHealth

02.01.2022 The question for Deb Frecklington is this - if she were Premier, who would she be listening to? This week we have seen a concerted campaign from the State and F...ederal LNP to open our borders while every other State and Territory continues to have border restrictions in place. She seems to be saying that she wouldnt be listening to the Chief Health Officer and that she would be making all these decisions about borders and exemptions herself. Does this mean she would open the borders even if the health advice was that is was unsafe to do so? You cant just listen to the expert health advice when it suits you. Queenslanders deserve an answer.

02.01.2022 This pandemic has highlighted the importance of making essential products right here in Queensland. Thats why weve provided support to Aspen Medical Australia..., through our Industry Attraction Fund, to boost PPE manufacturing at their Brendale factory. Aspen are now producing two million face masks per month, with capacity boosted to four million by mid-October. The additional investment is expected to create 35 new full-time jobs in the first year of operation. Well continue to back local manufacturing as a key plank of Queenslands plan for economic recovery. #qldjobs

01.01.2022 This photo of yet another Zoom couldn’t possibly capture just how great it was to be part of the virtual 20th anniversary of Ethical Clothing Australia and laun...ch of the very first Ethical Clothing Australia Week today. This organisation is awesome and one that I’ve been part of since it began. It’s close to my heart because it’s an important part of union won changes that have made a real difference in the pay, conditions and lives of some of the most exploited workers in Australia. Ethical Clothing Australia was created to help stamp out the exploitation of workers in local Australian supply chains. At the time my union the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia (which now is part of the Manufacturing Division of the CFMEU) had been exposing the terrible working conditions of home based Outworkers and and been part of establishing the Fairwear campaign. ECA’s accreditation program was formed under the leadership and collaborative efforts of the TCFUA and industry employers. It gives consumers a choice so they can support both Australian and ethically made products. Specialist TCF union officers audit supply chains and work with employers to ensure they meet rigorous standards for ethical practice. This means when you buy products from businesses that are ECA-accredited, you can be sure the workers who made them here in Australia aren’t being exploited. And now, Ethical Clothing Australia Week has been launched to celebrate our local textile clothing and footwear workers and to recognise businesses that are manufacturing locally and ethically with the support of ECA’s accreditation program. You can see the full program for the week ahead here: https://ethicalclothingaustralia.org.au/ethical-clothing-a/ And you can (and should because the clothes are not only ethical but also cool and gorgeous!) check out the list of ECA accredited brands here: https://ethicalclothingaustralia.org.au/brands/
