14.01.2022 Tea seeds were first brought to Japan in the 12 century. In the 16th century, Buddhist monk Sen no rikyu formalized the tea ceremony. At the time, white shikku...i lime plaster and washi Japanese paper finishes were reserved for temples and the residents of citizens with wealth and power, while earth plaster finishes were common among the poor and rural farmers. Sen no rikyu finished his tea house with earth, which spurred an earth plastering revolution in Japan which continues to this day. As tea houses spread throughout Japan the fine art of earth plastering was developed. See more
