12.01.2022 ACT COVID-19 Update (9 July 2020) There has been 1 new case of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours, bringing the ACT’s total to 112. The individ...ual is a male aged in his 20s and is a close contact of a previously confirmed case. The individual is currently in quarantine and has been cooperating with ACT Health as we undergo contact tracing in line with National Guidelines. There is one public location the individual attended prior to his symptoms but during his infectious period. This is Vodafone store in Gungahlin on Monday 6 July 2020 between 3:00pm and 3:30pm. ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said the risk to the broader community was low, including to staff and the public who were in the Vodafone store at the same time as this individual. However, anyone who attended this location during these times should monitor themselves for symptoms. ACT Health is following up with management of the store. Dr Coleman also reminded people to be kind to one another and remember that COVID-19 is no one’s fault. We don’t blame anyone for these new cases. The situation in Victoria is evolving very quickly, and people coming to the ACT who may have COVID-19 need our support. We want to encourage anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 to get tested and to know that if you do test positive for COVID-19 we will support you and do everything we can to ensure you get better. We have a number of people in quarantine here in the ACT, which is not easy. If anyone needs support during this time, please call our COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 or call Lifeline on 13 11 14. We are all in this together, and we must be supportive of one another, said Dr Coleman. Following the COVID Safe Check Point that has been undertaken in the past 24 hours, the decision has been made to pause the move to Stage 3 easing of restrictions, the details of which were announced earlier this week. ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said that the decision had been made due to the evolving situation in Victoria and that at this time, we don’t know what the full impact of this will be for ACT. The situation that is unfolding in Victoria is concerning and has resulted in four new confirmed cases in the last two days here in the ACT, Dr Coleman said. With the border restrictions here in the ACT and in NSW only coming into effect earlier this week, we need time to assess how effective they will be in slowing the spread of the virus. We currently have 168 people who have returned to the ACT and are now in quarantine either at home or in hotels and we are also working through approximately 400 requests to enter the ACT, from both residents and non-residents. It is possible there will be new cases emerging from these returning travellers in the coming weeks and we need to be in a position to respond quickly. At this time, Step 2.2 restrictions will remain in place with another check point to be conducted in one week for community contact sports competitions and two weeks’ time for all other activities. All business and community activities currently in place can continue unchanged. www.covid19.act.gov.au
