21.01.2022 Oral language is an important component of literacy, so oral language activities should be incorporated into every literacy program. I thought these Discussion Cards were a great idea for classroom teachers: https://crackingtheabccode.com/discussion-cards/

13.01.2022 Although this post was written from a perspective of working with students in an online environment, I feel it still has validity even if students are in a physical classroom and can also be adapted to a 'family' newspaper. https://www.edutopia.org/ar/how-set-online-school-newspaper
10.01.2022 If you are a teacher in New Zealand or on the east coast of Australia, this might be an interesting event to investigate: https://www.kidslitquiz.com/home.php
09.01.2022 Sometimes quality is better than quantity. Take the first sentence from any book. Ask your students to rewrite this sentence several times seeing if they can improve on it each time. https://www.loc.gov/item/webcast-9156
08.01.2022 Phonological awareness and in particular phoneme manipulation is a critical underlying skill associated with reading and spelling development. The Sound Hearing book helps develop this skill. https://crackingtheabccode.com/product/sound-hearing/

Sonia has a wealth of experience, a bubbly and enthusiastic personality and is a wonderful educator who always puts students first. If you have a child experiencing difficulties learning to read, spell or write and live around Kardinya WA, contact Sonia to see if she can help. ... https://crackingtheabccode.com//literacy/sonia-garbellini/
04.01.2022 This link provides some interesting suggestions for using comics to develop storytelling skills. I think you could take the suggestions one step further and after students have created the comic they could then use the frames as a basis for more extended writing. https://www.edutopia.org/article/creating-comics-classroom
03.01.2022 Although we can teach our children the different components underlying literacy acquisition (phonological awareness, alphabet code, orthographic knowledge), this is only a part of the equation. It is not sufficient just to introduce and explain a concept. Children need to learn this material and this requires them to be able to firstly store information in their long-term memory and then quickly and accurately retrieve this information on demand. For more information go to: https://crackingtheabccode.com/memory-learning-part-1/
02.01.2022 For those children who find reading difficult, audio stories are one way of giving them access to vocabulary and ideas that they may otherwise not encounter. Not every child likes scary stories, but for those children who like this genre, this list of podcasts might be worthwhile investigating. https://www.slj.com/
02.01.2022 It's great to see articles like this because the more widespread the knowledge of the importance of teaching decoding from an early age, the more likely we are to have a greater number of competent readers. https://www.apmreports.org/episo//08/06/what-the-words-say
