25.01.2022 On our afternoon walk yesterday. The eye of the high right overhead here at Cradle Mountain Love Shack.
25.01.2022 Still a tad chilly here at the Love Shack but spring has definitely arrived. More birds are reappearing after the drawn out winter months and the local wildlife is beginning to stir. Pademelon Wallabies are wrestling and even the Wombats are starting to roam. Pictured below is one of my favourite shots of a battle scarred old warrior Wombat.

19.01.2022 Triple treat at Cradle
19.01.2022 A Welcome visitor to the Love Shack. An early morning visit from this Spotted Tailed Quoll on Tuesday was a welcome surprise. Although they are a threatened species both in mainland Australia and relatively so here in Tasmania, there are still healthy numbers of them in this area. They are a fairly shy nocturnal creature though which makes sighting them during daylight hours unusual.
19.01.2022 This cute little Wren was sure to let the Green Rosellas know that they were interloping in his territory and stood his ground although there were some twenty plus of them. They helped themselves to a feed of Hakea seeds and then moved on.
18.01.2022 Feast or Famine? After trying for what seems ages without being able to get one decent shot of Tasmania's Green Rosella this very obliging bird posed for shot after shot during our morning walk a few days ago.
18.01.2022 Well now. Here's a little wee problem. Neither Dru or I can access the Cradle Mountain Love Shack page on pc or lap top. Only via Mobile. Why??? Does anyone have any idea? I have some good photos to post but unable as they are on my PC HELP
16.01.2022 And on the scond day of Spring? There's a certain feeling in the air when Spring arrives. It arrived this morning after a light frost. Birds started singing and strutting there stuff. Some re-appearing from wherever they had been sheltering through the winter months. It's been strangely silent for some reason this winter, birds that normally stay around dissappeared. But that changed on this mornings walk. ... A couple of Kookaburra's obliged by posing for a couple of shots before flying off with that inevitable laughing cry. Celebrating spring and Fathers Day here at Cradle Mountain Love Shack.

15.01.2022 Cradle Mountain takes it's toll once again. Pictured below. The sign of a most enjoyable time at the Love Shack This is the end result of a four night stay hiking around Cradle and our property here. ... Robert and Nicola we'd love to see you here again.
12.01.2022 Well I guess you could say that Spring is definitely on the way. The sparring has just begun. It doesn't matter if you're male or female, younger or older. Everyone can join in the fun. It turns serious between males at mating time but until then it's all in fun for all. Book your ringside seats now at [email protected] If you hurry you might be in time for the last snow events too. Enjoy.
12.01.2022 Do Bridal Veil and Champagne falls using our private track.
12.01.2022 Wally’s taking full advantage of the soft lighting to capture his new profile picture IG/hugowalton spotted this curious local striking a pose at #sunset in... the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Discover Tasmania's North West. Home to some of Tassie's most renowned walking trails, it’s no surprise that even the resident wombats like to make the most of them! See more
12.01.2022 Just a few flakes of snow after the expected falls we were looking forward to. Perhaps a promise of more to come in the next month or so. Either way this Pademelon Wallaby was unperturbed, snacking on a cellery stick. Hurry. Catch your chance to enjoy the snow in August. Book your stay now at cradlemountainloveshack.com.au
12.01.2022 A perfect photo of my Church, my Cathedral, my Mountain.
12.01.2022 Here is a beautiful shot of the Love Shack after an overnight snowfall in July last year. Sadly no such luck this year but the good news is we still have August and early September to go. Book your August stay through our website www.cradlemountainloveshack.com.au and receive a 15% discount for the month of August 2018. Website bookings only.
11.01.2022 Our first snake for the season. Spotted this Tiger sunning itself in the warm morning sunshine. Flattening himself out to make the most of the sun. Quite a good specimen around the four foot mark.
11.01.2022 A late afternoon visitor to the Love Shack obviously confused by the new daylight saving times.
09.01.2022 Hello. First of all my apologies for not posting anything here for a little while. The truth is we have been exeptionally busy since November and over the summer period. Into Autumn now and we're still busy. Due to the fact that we had a wet winter with good regular rainfalls the spring flowers were abundant ,and therefore the Autumn seed pods are abundant too.... Enter the Yellow tailed Black Cockatoo. Every year they come with there young in both small and large flocks to feed on the seeds of the Needle Hakea. This year has been quite exeptional having large flocks with up to 100 birds and they're still here. Therefore we have quite a number of shots for your enjoyment. Life is always different here at the Love Shack. Cheers.

08.01.2022 Well now. It looks like the Love Shack glitch has finally fixed itself. So here now are a couple of shots of the Sulphor crested Cockatoo that I was trying to post a week or so ago. We currently have a wintering flock of around twenty or so that like to feed amongst the Mudleaf along the banks of Bull creek.
08.01.2022 On This Day 15th May (1922) Cradle Mountain declared a scenic reserve "This must be a National Park for the people for all time. It is magnificent, and pe...ople must know about it and enjoy it." ~ Gustav Weindorfer on Cradle Mountain 98 years ago today Cradle Mountain was declared a scenic reserve. Gustav Weindorfer had led a campaign to have the Cradle Mountain area declared a National Park since 1910. The Government did finally agree and declared it a scenic reserve and wildlife sanctuary that included 63,900 hectares which took in both Cradle Mountain and the Lake St Clair area. This was only part of the battle as initially there was little funding available. The Scenic Preservation Board, responsible for the Park's management, only had a total budget of 29 pounds in 1925/26. In 1947 the area was declared a National Park. During this transition, former trappers began building huts and guiding bushwalkers, including Paddy Hartnett, Gustav Weindorfer and Bob Quaile. Aboriginal use of the Cradle Mountain dates back to the last ice age (10,000 years ago) and is believed to have been non-permanent, consisting mostly of seasonal hunting excursions during the summer months. Several artifacts and campsites containing various stone types and tools have been discovered around Pelion Plains and Lake St Clair, and early surveyors reported huts in the area. By 2000 the Overland Track, one of the Park's major attractions, had become so popular that a booking system was introduced and fees charged to use in peak periods. The money raised continues to be used to maintain and improve tracks and facilities. Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is a place for all seasons, you can discover deep snowdrifts in winter, spectacular displays of yellows, oranges and reds across the mountain slopes in autumn as Tasmania’s deciduous Fagus turns colour, playful young joeys & hungry echidnas emerging in spring, and the fragrance of wildflowers filling the air as you dip your toe into a crystal-clear lake on a summer’s day. The area is synonymous with nature, wilderness and all things pristine. Wildlife is in abundance in this spectacular national park, giving opportunity to encounter Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, echidna, wombats and the highly inquisitive black currawong. The Park offers a world-class system of walking tracks to explore that ranges from very short easy strolls to the legendary Overland Track. This 5-6 day hike stretches 80km from Cradle Mountain through to Lake St Clair and is an unforgettable journey through Tasmania’s alpine heart. Even if hiking boots and backpacks aren't your thing, you will find it hard to resist the lure of the well-formed tracks that lead you to surprising discoveries. Whichever way you look at it, the magic of Cradle Mountain is bound to captivate.
07.01.2022 Finally. This morning we woke up to our first reasonable snow fall for the season. Nice to see the area surrounding the Love Shack displaying it's fresh mantle of snow.
05.01.2022 These magical moments were captured on Maria island. Too beautiful not to share. Your chances of seeing them around the Love Shack or Cradle Mountain National Park are pretty high too. Check out our vacancies at [email protected]
04.01.2022 Here's a short video that was made for Sportsgirl shot in part right here at the Love Shack and Cradle Mountain. Yet another feather in our cap. Why not book yourself a spot to enjoy the winter season and maybe enjoy the magic of the Love Shack in the snow.
03.01.2022 How deep is the snow"? they ask. Not very is the reply. Most of it melted this morning but as you can see there's more on the way. Our Love Shack visitors are certainly getting their moneys worth at the moment. Foot note. The background noise in the video isn't the snow or rain. It's the creek which is raging with all the precipitation we've had in the past week or so and more to come too. Drive carefully if you're on our roads at the moment.
03.01.2022 Well it looks like winter is upon us with snow forecast from Sunday through the rest of the week. Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow. Check out our vacancies and book your stay now.
02.01.2022 It's snowing in Tassie this weekend and these wombats can't wait! Image: Paul Pichugin Photography(via IG)
02.01.2022 Endangered Species Day 2020 "We all have a responsibility to protect endangered species, both for their sake and for the sake of our own future generations...." ~ Loretta Lynch Today we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Endangered Species Day. Endangered Species Day is an opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate and learn about endangered species and how to protect them. When a species is defined as endangered, its numbers are unusually low in the last few thousands, hundreds, or even tens. And when the last of the species is gone, they are gone for good. We live in a world full of many animals, insects, plants, and creatures that are approaching risk of extinction or are so close to extinction that their species need help immediately. This day was created to keep us aware of how fragile the existence of some animals, plants, and insects is and, most importantly, reminds us to take the time to learn about why it’s so important to protect endangered species from any further harm. The bottom line is this: the more we take care of all the species on our planet, the better it will be. And that’s what makes this particular day of the year so important. Happy Endangered Species Day!
