11.01.2022 QUICK UPDATE: It's becoming highly likely that will see extensive snowfall over Tasmania by Tuesday down to least 400m but some models have snow to sea level ov...er the Southern half of the state. This continues to change hourly, the bulk of the snowfall is forecast for Tuesday morning that's due to vigours and cold Southerly blast moving up from Antarctica. This should also bring the Risks of Strong to even Damaging winds on Tuesday as well. Over the weekend we should see snow above 1400m Saturday, 900m on Sunday. Monday we should see another front cross the state and bring Strong winds over higher terrain and snowfall to 500m We will have updates rolling over the coming days so check the page often! All up it's so far looking like one of the best snowfalls of the year for Tasmania, I would go far to say many years at least. Snow-covered roads will be extremely hazardous from Sunday night onwards. Roads may be limited to 4WD only or completely closed causing communities to be isolated from Sunday night onward. Hiking or bushwalking is Not recommended from Sunday night onwards due to snowfall and hazardous weather. ~ Nick

06.01.2022 This is why I have rang the alarm bells very loud and clear this is evolving into a significant and serious rain /storm event. This morning I mentioned that the...re is a significant risk and threat to lives and property Friday and Saturday. It is evolving into a very significant rain event based on all model data we have assessed this morning and we continue to assess the situation on a hourly basis. Life threatening very dangerous flash flooding is expected Friday evening and into Saturday particularly inland along the Northwest coast, Central North and Northeast including Launceston as a strong and deep area of Convergence develops. This will be an area of slow moving thunderstorms or intense rain. ( up to excess of 100mm an hour possible) I don't use stern words very often but I have to take this dead seriously, this could get ugly people need to prepare not panic. Simple things you can do, ie move livestock to higher ground, clean drainage systems, sandbag flood prone parts of your property. If you have had water issues before during heavy rain. Why do I say life threatening? Its life threatening flash flooding due to the rate of rainfall and runoff, we can expect very sharp and significant rises in almost every small creek or river through northern tasmania. The deadly part of it most communities won't get a warning unless they are covered by the BoM and hyrdro tasmania's warning system this includes major towns and cities, Burnie, ulverstone, Launceston ect. Flood warnings in tasmania are poor so if we don't know how high rivers! /,creeks are we have to assume that communities are at risk from major flooding unless they are covered within a BoM warning.
