24.01.2022 CRAFT ACT GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY// In 2015, Craft ACT commissioned a survey exhibition of one of the most influential and iconic figures in the Australian craft movement, Janet DeBoos. Janet is a long-term Craft ACT member (since 1996), and friend, mentor, teacher and collaborator to many people in Canberra and across the globe. In the first major publication that surveys her career, guest curator Peter Haynes revealed Janet's extensive and diverse career, describing her art as ...‘conceptually complex, referentially rich and aesthetically beautiful’. The exhibition catalogue is available online at http://ow.ly/FZZZ50DpzrK and you can see recent work by Janet DeBoos in the current Craft ACT exhibition Intersections: Two artist’s approach to landscape through dialogue, making and getting lost (with contemporary visual artist Wendy Teakel). 21.01.2022 EXHIBITION / c/o Craft ACT: 2020 members exhibition The annual members exhibition showcases the current trends in contemporary craft and design and illustrate how care underpins a maker’s commitments. We interviewed acclaimed American craft curator, writer and historian Glen Adamson about the exhibition. He explains: you see so many things in the [Craft] ACT show that have that kind of combination of values, of respect and creativity. And that's really what you come to cra...ft for you don't come to it just to be reminded of what you already love. You also come to it to see things that are new. Equally you don't just come to it for novelty. You also come to it for a kind of foundational experience of culture. And I think the show does that marvelously. Visit our gallery and these amazing works, we are open tomorrow from 10 5 pm. Book via the link below. https://craftact.org.au//intersections-exhibition-floor-ta... Intersections will present new works by respected ceramic artist Janet DeBoos and contemporary visual artist Wendy Teakel. The exhibition will include ceramics, drawings, paintings and sculptures which will explore the premise of ‘getting lost’ as an approach to creative practice. Rebecca Solnit’s A Field Guide to Getting Lost will be a point of departure for this research. Solnit suggests that people can get lost by simply not paying attention but advocates a better way to be lost, is in Walter Benjamin’s terms, to be fully present capable of being in uncertainty and mystery. And (to make) a conscious choice, a chosen surrender, a psychic state achievable through geography.
