25.01.2022 Kooyonga GC has found and acquired an amazing old film of the course that looks like it dates back to the late 1920s. Some incredible views of how the course was and a great information source for future reference. Well worth a look. https://youtu.be/E97xyllLvi8
25.01.2022 Through this last winter the Mt Osmond Golf Club embarked on the reconstruction of its 3rd green to a design by Crafter + Mogford and superintendent Bazz Bryant has the green in great shape for the SA Amateur being played there this week. Great photo of the new green by David Brand. And a shot of the old green for comparison.
24.01.2022 When you dig up old greens you find old golf balls.
23.01.2022 Another drone view of the Arm End site near Hobart, Tasmania, this time looking north across Shelly Beach and Ralphs Bay to the northern part of the property. The cleared high point at bottom left is the location for the Pro Shop / Cafe. Photo by Pete Harmsen.
22.01.2022 Nice article and mention of our work at The Barwon Heads Golf Club by Richard Allen which first appeared in the Financial Review last 22nd July https://www.golf.org.au/golf-trips-without-a-passport/
22.01.2022 Been very cold in South Australia this week. Here’s a shot of a very frosty Mt Compass course taken by Ben Flavel one morning this week.
21.01.2022 Another great shot of our Mount Compass course south of Adelaide taken by our friend David Brand. This one shows the lakeside 4th green with the 2nd green in the background.
21.01.2022 Paul had the pleasure of working with Heather and Peter Wood of The Travelling Golfer these past weeks as Heather and Peter launched their first piece in a series of "How to Play a Golf Hole as the Architect intended". Great job guys! https://youtu.be/8nv495oX0Vk #thetravellinggolfer
21.01.2022 Both Paul and Neil were interviewed by the Arm End project’s communications team about our latest thoughts on the course and the site. Video will go up on the website soon.
19.01.2022 Top photo is from today of our new 8th hole at Robe GC taken by Mt Gambier GC superintendent Craig Gillin, while the bottom photo is how the hole looked during grow in back in March 2019. 20 months of establishment and the sandy rough areas that we created look really natural now - just the effect we were aiming for.
17.01.2022 To the last drone photo we posted of Arm End we have added tee and green locations. Hope you find these of interest.
15.01.2022 Time lapse video of the reconstruction of Kooyonga's 13th green made by assistant superintendent Adam Fry. The green opens for play today. https://youtu.be/jlI0jgTjXvg
15.01.2022 Two nice atmospheric shots of the par five 15th hole that we designed at Ratho Farm, Bothwell Tasmania and taken by owner Greg Ramsay.
15.01.2022 Recent drone photo of the northern end of our Arm End site near Hobart. Our 9th, 10th and 11th holes run around the tip of the peninsula. Spectacular is an understatement. Photo credit Pete Harmsen.
14.01.2022 Paul describes our interim works on the 13th hole at the Metropolitan Golf Club in lieu of our final Course Enhancement Plan solution. https://vimeo.com/427999993/63bf043ccd
13.01.2022 Cutting from the Adelaide Advertiser this morning about the new development by Burke Urban on the old Murray Bridge racecourse site adjacent to the Murray Bridge Golf Club. Crafter and Mogford have been the club’s golf course architects for a number of years and we are designing the two new holes that will extend out into the new residential development. Excited to be a part of a great regional SA project.
13.01.2022 The third drone photo by Peter Harmsen of the Arm End site, looking west from near the proshop/cafe location that you can see at bottom left. Mt Wellington in the distance on the other side of the Derwent River.
12.01.2022 To the photo posted yesterday of the northern tip of Arm End we have added locations for the tees and greens of these northern holes. The run of holes 8-12 will be particularly spectacular and challenging. As can be seen the fairway locations have been roughly mown out.
11.01.2022 Great photo by David Brand of the 5th hole at the Regency Park public course in Adelaide’s north that we redeveloped as part of the South Road Superway project that you can see in the background.
11.01.2022 Local councillor visits our Arm End site.
11.01.2022 At Glenelg GC here in Adelaide superintendent Tim Warren has been trialling some alternatives to the couchgrass sod used for revetting the bunkers on the course. We have previously commercially available artificial sods on a bunker on the 4th hole, and although performance is great we haven’t been as happy with the look, given how thin each sod is. So Tim Warren had the idea of using old discarded tennis court artificial turf and he’s trialled it on the bunkers on the practice chipping green. These have come up a treat and the thicker artificial turf more closely resembles natural turf sods. These will be monitored for their performance over coming years.
10.01.2022 Some recent site photos sent our way from Hobart showing the roughly mown-out fairways at Arm End greening up nicely after some recent rains. Gives a rather good hint of what our course might look like once we get going.
10.01.2022 Shaping rear green side hollow on new 3rd green at Mt Osmond GC and marking out locations for grated pits.
07.01.2022 And finally the tee and green locations on the drone shot looking west at Arm End we posted the other day. Photo by Pete Harmsen.
03.01.2022 Great to get see our Kununurra project getting some political legs which we have been working on closely with Brenton Kay and the team at McMahons. The site is blessed with an abundance of Boab trees which will give the course an amazing sense of place. The article shows a couple of quick 3D impressions of the course artfully prepared by Wayne Hewitt https://www.kimberleyecho.com.au//waste-water-key-to-golf-
03.01.2022 Neil was at Mt Osmond Golf Club this morning as we got started on rebuilding the 3rd green. Fingers crossed the weather is ok for the next couple of weeks.
02.01.2022 Harris Kalinka is a company that does great golf course computer renderings and fly throughs. Some have complained that their videos are not realistic enough and so they have responded with this - make sure you have the sound turned up! https://harriskalinka.wistia.com/medias/be0fu0eq5n
02.01.2022 Golf Courses and their role in a sustainable future. A document launched today by AGIC with some case studies on C+M courses including Glenelg and Barwon Heads. The document can be downloaded at the link. https://mailchi.mp//media-release-competition-rounds-conti
01.01.2022 Excellent recognition for the sustainable approach by Glenelg Golf Club being nominated by the Golf Environment Organisation as one of the top 3 sustainable golf stories of 2020. Great stuff Glenelg.
