24.01.2022 Years of work lead to install and commissioning of a passenger lift in July 2018. Many people involved in the process over that time.

23.01.2022 The mill opened for business in 1906 as part of the Francis Crago & Sons milling empire. Ceasing milling operations in the 1950s it became headquarters for Southern Mitchell County Council from 1963 to mid 1990s. The site and building fell into neglect until restoration works began 2010. Winning multiple awards for adaptive re-use in 2015 Bathurst Council/National Trust Bicentenary Awards.

23.01.2022 CRAGO RESTORATION PROGRESS PICS attract great response - big thanks for your interest. We will endeavour to complete the stories and pics that illustrate the renewal of this iconic Bathurst heritage landmark. Please like and share the page.

20.01.2022 A potted history of the mill: opening in 1906 as a flour mill in F Crago& Sons milling empire. The mill ended its milling days in the mid 1950s when industry structural change killed off many country mills. Bagged wheat handling was banned by the state railroads of the day. New methods of bulk wheat storage (rail side silos) and carriage of bulk wheat by rail saw flour milling move to portside/big city centres. Cragos Bathurst mill was closed down as part of industry rati...onalisation of the time and lay empty till the early 1960s when Southern Mitchell County Council took it over for use an electrical authority works depot. Southern Mitchell made many changes to the building during a near 30 year occupation. They vacated the site in the early 1990s. In the 1990s there were attempts to create a community arts centre. Plans were drawn, feasibility studies conducted. The building was to lay essentially empty and abandoned for some 20 years. In 2010 the current owners began a care and maintenance program to clean up the property and to make plans for adaptive re-use of the site. The plan was to develop a mixed use commercial/retail building that would be attractive to a wide range of users/uses. These are the `before' pictures 2009/10. There is detailed documentation of the restoration of the Crago Mill to the present day. We will publish a series of albums bringing the story to the present day. In Bathurst Bicentennial year of 2015 Crago Mill won a swag of awards at the Bathurst Council/National Trust Heritage Awards.
