25.01.2022 Last year we were fortunate enough to add Nomorewastedeffort (Effie) a multiple race winning TB mare to our breeding program. She is a lovely put together mare and has an impeccable temperament to go with it. However, it was her breeding that really attracted us to this mare. She is by the thoroughbred legend More Than Ready, who is the #1 Sire of Winners in the World, ranks 5th all time in the World by Stakes Winners, was 3x champion Two Year Old Sire, and had completed dua...l hemispheres in Kentucky and Australia for 18 years. More Than Ready is by another champion stallion in Southern Halo who’s progeny are not only renowned in racing, but for their ability to play polo and polocrosse. Effie’s dam Wasted Effort was by Semipalatinsk who was another fantastic racing sire and bred on the Star Kingdom line. He features in the pedigree of a few stock horses like Hazelwood Showman and a few of the Nonda horses. While, Wasted Effort was out of a Vain mare. Vain was again another champion TB sire who has many successful descendants registered within the stock horse society. Effie has given us a nice black filly by Stoneage Beacon-HSH, who is by Dogwood Comet out of a Riverview Topfire mare.

23.01.2022 Here at Craigburn we are very excited to announce that Haydon Maylight (ISIS JUNE x HAYDON NIGHTWATCH) has foaled down a beautiful filly by Ellerston Ruski (ELLERSTON CRUISER x ELLERSTON CAVALIER). Cruiser won the BPP in the final at Royal Windsor in 2018 and was sold to Adolfo Cambiaso and sent to Argentina for the Triple Crown. There are generations of international polo ponies in the breeding here. We are sure she will turn her hand at polocrosse and some heads! Could be another grey mare on the Craigburn truck. Maylight will now be joined to Concussion this year.

22.01.2022 Welcome CRAIGBURN SKYY (Haydon Maylight x Ellerston Ruski) a stunning little filly who we are very excited to have in our paddock. Skyy has a huge future ahead of her and one to watch out for. It will be interesting to see how she unfolds and grows out

22.01.2022 We have just arrived home with the addition of three broodmares and a colt foal from the Haydon Horse Stud. We have acquired the mares Haydon Camilla (Timorpolo Maximus x Haydon Mirage), Balwyn Bouquet (Ellerston Cava x Haydon Rosecup), Haydon Maylight (Haydon Nightwatch x ISIS June) and Maylight’s colt by Ellerston Churchill. We would love to take this opportunity to thank Peter and Ali Haydon for the opportunity to acquire these horses. The Haydon family have been breeding horses since the 1830s. These mares will be joined to Concussion this year. We are taking expressions of interest for the resulting foals.

19.01.2022 The first feature on two of the new additions! Haydon Maylight HSH was retained by the Haydon Horse Stud for use as a broodmare, being by Haydon Nightwatch and from the famous Breezette Family. Haydon Maylight’s 2016 filly by Maximus, Haydon Calendar was purchased as a weanling by the Coulton family for polo and has grown into a nice mare. Haydon Mayflower, her 2017 filly foal by Ellerston Churchill owned by Loch McGuiness is a good high goal polo prospect. Isis June played p...olo well and is the dam of; Haydon Mayfair by Techrico sold as a weanling filly in 2015 being an attractive stand up type of filly and has started well in polocrosse; Haydon July by Haydon Nightwatch a quality, brown mare with a blaze who has done well in the showring and playing polocrosse; Haydon April by Murrabong Victory proved a very easy to play polo mare and January by Techrico has started in polo. Haydon Nightwatch was a very athletic horse with good temperament and proven at polo. He is bred on the same successful cross of Haydon Drawn/Haydon Never Doubt as Haydon Angel Jewel (international polo mare), Haydon Celestial (multiple BPP winning mare), Haydon Rosecup, Haydon Blush, etc and his full sisters Haydon Moonlight and Dawnlight. Haydon Lancer was the foal at foot on Maylight and he is by Churchill. Lancer has the proven Never In Doubt/Panzer-Nabinabah The Gun cross on both sides of his pedigree. Churchill is from one of the all-time great Ellerston mares Nabinabah Kylie by renowned sire Never in Doubt and from legendary mare Breezette’s full sister Breeze. He has three crosses of Hall of Fame sire Panzer, being by champion sire Monty. He is great moving horse, light on his feet and athletic with his progeny being the same, good types, athletic and easy to play. Churchill’s dam Nabinabah Kylie was a standout mare for Ellerston both on the field and as a great producer. Rated in the all time top few at Ellerston. Her descendant Twitter won BPP in the Queens Cup final and at the Coronation Test Match in 2019.

18.01.2022 Concussion is the epitome of top breeding from top tail (female) lines. Being out of Berragoon Percussion, who has a list of awards as long as your arm and is the three time Max Walters Trophy winner, you know Concussion is going to breed on. When you look further her dam Berragoon Tune played at many Nationals and a World Cup. It’s not hard to see how she bred on, also producing other top mares Off Key (played Nationals) and Poem (played in the 2019 World Cup).

14.01.2022 The Bling! This filly by Concussion is out of J Star Omen Forty (Coolum Arrow x J Star Dynasty). Considering neither of her parents have much chrome it’s interesting how flash she is. Her maternal sister, who’s a yearling, is an absolute cracker with a temperament to die for. We are very grateful for the green grass too!

14.01.2022 The other week Rob and Sandy along with some other Casterton polocrosse members went up to the Adelaide hills to help rebuild all their yards, after fires destroyed everything back in December in a bushfire. We donated the truck, tractor, tools and labour to smash out the rebuild in two huge days. The Adelaide Polocrosse Club is a place where we have some very fond memories of some of our early playing.

09.01.2022 How sleek?! This is an ET filly foal out of Mitch Anderson’s mare Berragoon Cougar and by Concussion. This means that she has a double cross of Rodeo Rush and Furnir. Both of these stallions sired many great polocrosse and polo horses. She also has the next polocrosse World Cup written all over her, with both her granddams having played in World Cups (Hydrience 2007 & Percussion 2019).

08.01.2022 Here is a bit of information on the breeding behind another of the stud’s recent additions. Haydon Camilla showed a lot of promise when started in polo in 2018. She sustained an injury to her near hind fetlock and was retired to be a broodmare. She has many siblings that have performed well and is from a strong Jewel Family mare line.
