25.01.2022 Never before have the calves taken off out of the paddock like they were thoroughbreds at Flemington. What they SHOULD do is follow the milk trailer all the way to their new paddock over the period of about 20 mins. Not these 55. They ran all the way, well in front of the trailer in a time that would make @usainbolt stand and cheer. Not only did they streak past their own paddock in about 4 minutes, but they kept going and nearly ended up halfway to Colac. So I missed the traditional vid of them walking up the track. I was too busy running to head them off!! #Calves #Holsteins #dairy #dairyfarm #futuredairy #blackandwhite #fastbuggers

22.01.2022 Australian Dairy is going through a big revamp right now which centres around the Australian Dairy Plan. In a nutshell, it is about making the pathways between all sectors of the industry clearer in an effort to make sure that we all succeed. It is all still very much being bedded down, however here is a clip outlining the plan. Mark and some of the kids appear in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNA5V39f3-g&feature=emb_logo

12.01.2022 It’s PINK BALE time!! First paddock is done. Supporting Breast Cancer Nurses. Do you know it costs $390,000 to fund a breast cancer nurse for 3 years? Each year, we do our bit to support the super work these nurses do within our communities. We are fortunate. We have not had to deal with breast cancer personally. But we are touched by it, through some of our friends that have had to go through the sometimes harrowing treatments; sometimes winning, sometimes not . As farmers,... we cannot support every charity that rings us up asking for donations. And we feel bad about that. But rest assured, we do donate and this is the proof. A percentage of the price of the wrap goes to the @mcgrathfoundation to fund the nurses. Get on board and support one of the many fundraisers operating through October. #donate #pinksilagerolls #silage20 #silage @tama_australia_1 #triopluspink See more

12.01.2022 So, unfortunately the cow was faster than me. Suspected broken hands last night but review of X-rays today showed no breaks (that they can see) but significant crush and bruising and swelling. One hand still plastered and one bandages (so at least I can go to toilet by myself!!). Review at end of week.... I’m too old for this.....

12.01.2022 I don’t know about other dairy farmers, but choosing semen, matching it to cows, analysing the reports, double checking numbers.... it takes quite a bit of my time and concentration. And I’ve had it for the day... it’s up to Mark, the AI techs and the cows from now. AI day... 20th July!!

11.01.2022 Did I mention that I am a @gin drinker? Well I am, and how! So much so, I have converted my hubby from a bourbon swiller to a gin lover! From a rough count in my head, I think we have about 15 or 16 different gins in the house. Are you still under the illusion that gin is only BeefEater and reserved for the old set? You only drink it with lime and tonic? Well, let me expand your horizons!!... First up is @tanquerayginau SEVILLA gin. This is a ripper. It has the gin taste that you may know from the standard green bottle, but it is made with Seville oranges which gives it undertones of citrus. Now I have paired this with Cascade Tonic Water and a slide of good ol’ Aussie navel orange. This is a good drink for those that are starting to look to expanding beyond the norm. It is still close enough to what you know, but just adds that little extra. And it is reasonably priced and readily available in any number of grog shops. Want to know about others? Stay tuned. Want me to review a gin? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do. #gin #juniper #juniperberries #botanicals #gindrinker #gindame

11.01.2022 Farm hack 101: repurpose old equipment for current jobs. Mark made a paddock train out of two old trailers from something or other. A few 6x1 pine slabs for a new floor on one, a slick of paint on the metal bits and a new hitch and it’s done, ready to cart silage rolls!!

06.01.2022 #ginreview time. Coming at you this week is the superb little drop from @melbourneginco I was introduced to this little number by my friend @tanialuckin at a gin bar in Melbourne a number of years back whilst attending a dairy conference (Yes, it was THAT type of conference that we needed a gin afterwards). At any rate, this has become a firm fav at our place along with another number I will review next week. MGC Dry Gin is an exceptionally easy drinking gin. I know that a n...umber of gins on the market fluff about with adding bits and bobs into their gin, but the pure nature of this is perfect. It is smooth and does not take your breath away when drunk neat over ice (or straight out of the bottle... not that I EVER do that ). This particular gin is probably a good one to use as the basis of a cocktail but to be honest, I prefer to just drink this one with tonic and lemon. Price wise... it’s not your cheapest gin in the shelf, but then, neither should it be if you enjoy a quality drink. But keep your eye on the grog shops because when it comes on sale, take advantage and grab yourself a bottle. You won’t be sorry. Tonight, I’ve paired it with Cascade’s tonic water which also has a little lime note to it. Oh, and I’ve decided to call myself a #ginfluencer but judging by the number of hashtags for this, I am not the first to think of it - although I thought I was so smart coming up with it! . But I will keep my top on and not do any trout pouts, so maybe I’m not so much of an social media influencer anyway!! #gin #mgc #gindrinker #gandt #tonic #enjoyinmoderation #isodrinks

05.01.2022 Guess what? Lockdown time again here in Victoria, so why not celebrate with a g&t? Seriously though, it’s been a bloody long time between drinks (pardon the pun) with my reporting on gins, and I can tell you it is NOT because I haven’t been sampling. But today’s lockdown announcement coincides with my good gin buddy’s birthday (@tanialuckin who is turning 28.....again). I also told @708gin that I would review when I got my hands on a bottle... so I’m fulfilling a promise.... So what’s this one like? 708 is a dry gin. Let’s get that straight. So like most drys, it is pretty powerful. Which is an excellent thing in my opinion. On purpose I didn’t read too much of the description before I tasted it. There are definite herby tones and a fragrant finish. When I checked the website, the tasting notes mention thyme and citrus. Tonight I have paired it with @fevertreeaustralia elderflower tonic, lime juice and a dirty big wedge of lime. I think this one is a versatile gin that can be used in cocktails but will hold its own with a normal g&t. It is not so fragrant that you cannot dabble with different tonics, but has enough complexities that a simple drink is enjoyable. Enjoy! I’m off to have another! Happy birthday Tania #ginfluencer #gandt #708gin #fevertree @shanewarne23

04.01.2022 Ok the next offering on the #gintasting form guide is this wild number from Norway. #Bareksten gin is pretty bloody good. Not all of the guns I’ve had are, so I won’t waste your time telling you otherwise. Hubby and I not long joined a gin of the month club - @gardenstreetginclub - and June’s offering was this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was just a little more than overly impressed with the presentation. #Fabulous And the gin... well I have to say that the bott...le barely made it through June, and seeing as I chose the bimonthly option rather than the every month option, I’m a bit sad. On two counts; 1) we drank all the gin, and 2) we have to wait 4 weeks until another one arrives. Of course I have others in the gin cupboard, but I REALLY liked this one. I’m off on a hunt to track it down. And why? Well, let me quote from the booklet that came in our pack... ...described as featuring bright, zesty, green juniper with pine aromas, layered with red berries and earthy spice from the maker Stig Bareksten. Okay.... I didn’t get the pine aroma, but bright and zesty...yes! Stig also says that is has a smooth palate with a touch of wood, cinnamon and citrus. Yes, I can give him that. The pack the gin came with included Double Dutch tonic (nice) and dehydrated grapefruit (very nice) to make a #G&T, but after both of those ran out, we reverted to Schweppes tonic and lemon slices. Just as bloody good I tell ya. Tonight, I even ran out of lemon so it was getting pretty close to panic stations, but even so, this gin held up superbly. Smooth, well balanced, easy to drink.... and THAT’S why I’m going on the hunt for more! #ginfluencer #gin #botanicals #juniper #juniperberries #Norway #barekstenbotanicalgin #ginclub #tonic #drinkthegoodstuff
