03.01.2022 Last term, our Year 10 Biology students attended a field trip to Double Island Point. Field studies have been an integral part of the Science curriculum since the first Year 10 cohort of 1978, and since then, the ecosystems around Double Island Point have seen generations of Craigslea students study the biology of one of Queensland’s most picturesque places. Students conducted a transect study, which reached from the fore dune at the high water mark on the beach, to th...e eucalyptus forest 300m inland, and then collated the data to establish a dune profile. This sampling methodology provides both a visual and a quantitative record of the succession and zonation patterns of the coastal vegetation. Other areas of study included the organisms of the intertidal zone and the magnificent Cooloola rainforest. Occasionally, the academic focus was surrendered to the passing humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles which seemed determined to distract the students from their studies. #craigsleashs #globalcitizens #biology #science
