01.01.2022 Did you know? Amalgam fillings (as shown in the picture) are still advocated by WHO and ADA because not only are they safe to be used, but they are also very strong and long-lasting. Which is great... if you have young, flexible teeth. But as we age, our teeth become brittle and less flexible; hence having a metal that expands and contracts, could cause our teeth to fracture or crack! ... Small fractures may be fixable by replacing the amalgam with a tooth-coloured (composite) filling, but a large fracture, however, could be so deep that it causes the nerve to die and consequently lead to tooth loss.
