09.01.2022 During the warmer months, Cranbrook Care's Executive Chef's creative focus turns to fresh ingredients and recipes perfect for sharing with family and friends. Recently at Cranbrook Care, we have been using a lot of nuts, seeds and grains in the cakes and slices that we serve for morning and afternoon tea. One recipe in particular, Cranberry & Pistachio Slice, is great to serve for family picnics and in school lunch boxes. It's very simple to make and tastes delicious!... Ingredients: 750g unsalted butter, cut into cubes 300g brown sugar 1.5 cups honey 3 eggs, whisked 540g quick cook oats 300g self-raising flour 3 cups sundried cranberries 1 cup sultanas 4 cups pistachio nuts, lightly toasted and roughly chopped Method: 1. In a saucepan, melt the butter sugar and honey over a low heat. Stir frequently and do not boil! 2. Place all remaining ingredients in a mixer bowl. On low speed, mix until combined. 3. Slowly add the melted butter and sugar, followed by the eggs. 4. Grease and line a baking tray, press the dough into the tray. 5. Cover with baking paper and lid or foil. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 165C for 25-30 minutes. 6. Remove the lid/foil and cook for a further 5-10 minutes until golden brown. 7. Cool to room temperature before portioning. Can be stored at room temperature in a sealed container for up to 5 days. Enjoy!

While smaller group activities are still available, we've moved some of the classes to a digital format: Cranbrook Lifestyle. Cranbrook Lifestyle TV runs each day from 10.00am through to late afternoon. The program changes regularly but has similar themes each week - learn a language, exercise and movement, music appreciation, art and culture and masterclass/documentaries.

06.01.2022 Happy International Day of Older Persons! The 1st of October, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of International Day of Older Persons. Ageism prevents us from embracing our own ageing as well as being open-hearted with older people in our midst.... Ask yourself today how you feel about your own ageing; and how the older people around you know you value them. #Changethewayyouthinkaboutage

06.01.2022 When eaten as a part of a balanced, healthy diet, omega-3 fatty acids are proven to reduce inflammation that causes diseases such as heart disease, cancer and arthritis. A rich source of Omega-3 fatty acid can be found in flax seeds. For optimal use, seeds can be crushed and added to breakfast cereals, juices, smoothies and mixed into salads. Walnuts, avocadoes and fatty fish are also fantastic options.
