20.01.2022 COVID testing to return to Reid Park After the V8s and school holidays, Townsville Hospital and Health Service is heading back to Reid Park, re-establishi...ng a COVID-19 drive through testing clinic from 6 October. The clinic will become Townsville’s secondary option for testing, operating from 8am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. The main testing clinic at 1300 Smiles Stadium will remain a seven-day service operating from 8am to 7pm. Kirwan Community Health Campus’s drive through clinic will be open today but will be closed permanently from Saturday 3 October. Townsville Hospital and Health Board Chair Tony Mooney said Reid Park had been well received by the community. Reid Park really was a perfect spot, so it feels like a bit of a homecoming opening the clinic back up, he said. We’ve had feedback from the community wanting some options available closer to the city. With 1300 Smiles Stadium remaining our primary testing site we’ve got a pretty good spread of options for the community to access. We’ve got a clean schedule now and expect that we’ll be based at Reid Park certainly into 2021. Townsville Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Kieran Keyes said the Townsville community had been brilliant in accessing COVID-19 testing since the pandemic begun. We are approaching 40,000 North Queenslanders having been tested for COVID-19 since the pandemic began, he said. This is crucial in allowing us to make sure that if COVID is circulating in our community we can respond quickly. The facility at Reid Park is a stand-alone clinic in a well-known location and very easily accessible by the entire Townsville community. Mr Keyes urged the community to keep up the good work. People should wash their hands thoroughly and often, staying home if they are sick and social distancing, he said. Our health service is well prepared to meet the challenge, but we need our community to keep up the good work. The clinic at 1300 Smiles Stadium will continue to operate from 8am until 7pm seven days a week. The pop-up testing clinic will be at various locations across Townsville. Visit our Facebook page to stay updated.

20.01.2022 We understand there are extensive waiting times with the Kirwan drive-through clinic for COVID 19 testing. The clinic’s have been extended and they are also planning a second drive through clinic in Townsville to keep up with the demand. Your doctor is also able to refer you for private testing if you are unable to wait long periods at the drive through clinic. This can be arranged via a phone consultation. These results will generally take 48 hours and you will also be notified by text.

19.01.2022 Just a couple of quick messages in advance of the silly season. In the lead up to Christmas, and our hardworking doctors take a bit of time off over the school holidays, routine appointment times may be limited with all of the public holidays, your doctor away and shorter weeks. We will be remaining open and only closed for the public holidays. Now is a good time to check scripts and referrals are current and make an appointment if required. ... We have also started sending automated messages for routine recalls and results. This could mean that you receive a message even though you may have already made an appointment. Please be patient with us as we all navigate this technology!
