19.01.2022 WELCOME LENNY! We would like to extend a huge thank you to two of our children at Cranes Jacaranda Preschool, Olivia and Sophia, for donating one of their spiney leaf insects from home to the Preschool so Spikey has a friend! The children thoroughly enjoyed oberving their interactions and the difference in size, number of legs, colour and temperament between the two today. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Tae who has been bringing in fresh gum leaves each time he visits for them! How lucky are we to get to nurture and teach such involved, empathetic and responsible children!

13.01.2022 Over the last few year our Jacaranda Community has been very focused on becoming a more sustainable centre. We have come a long way over these years with the introduction of our animals, worm farm, gardens, rain water pump and solar panels. It is a discussion we have daily with the children and it comes into many aspects of their play. A few days ago the children were discussing ways we could further use our food scraps. Together with Katie they did some research into this... and discovered how good banana water was for plants. The children have been cutting up their banana peels with Katie, they know that the nutrients in the bananas are great for plants but the water has to sit for three days to get the full effect. They also talked to Katie about wanting to sell the banana water to our parents and community so we can get money to buy food for the animals and for their general up keep. So we are introducing our banana water stand (soon to also have worm wee, eggs and herbs.) We will be selling the banana water for $1 a bottle. We are also hoping to get a stall made for this (if anyone is handy on the tools please let us know) and will be looking for donations of 2L bottles See more

09.01.2022 Wednesday Graduation 2020

07.01.2022 At CRANES Jacaranda Preschool, we understand that a child’s family and community are their biggest educators and influencers. They are the people that nourish and care for them everyday. They are always on the sidelines cheering them on. Every aspect of a child’s is influenced by their family and community. Where a child comes from is an important part of a child’s life. As educators we respect this and endeavour to do our best to get to know every child and the community th...ey come from. We understand the impacts a child’s community has on their lives and we want to understand this. Understanding a child’s community helps us create a safe and secure environment for them, one where they feel they belong. To help us gain deeper understanding of each child’s community we have created a community tree. This tree is a place we can put photos of their families, their animals, them involved in sporting events. We can put up their drawings of their family. It’s a place we can put photos of friendships being created. A sense of community helps all children feel supported, loved, safe. See more

06.01.2022 Our real life tool work area is in its final stages of development. In this learning area children will get to engage with real life tools, in a controlled environment. They will learn the correct and safe techniques to use the tools. We have kept this area small to begin with so we can focus on introducing the tools to the children in a smaller group. To complete this we are asking for donations of off cuts of wood and nails and screws for the children to use

01.01.2022 She is climbing my arm She feels spikey She is waving to me I think she is stuck to my skin Can I touch her, but I don’t want to hold her ... Spiney is definitely a conversation starter for the children. Some of them are more then keen to hold her, whilst other children prefer to stand back and observe her. One thing they often notice about Spiney is she is missing one her front legs and how clever she is being able to move around without it. Today as the children were dancing some of them noticed that spiney appeared to be bopping along to the music too.
